damn indeed.... what's with the replies here??? where people, are soooo mad at the perp. that they recommend things like... chain saw butchery??? executions??? shooting someone in the head??? whoa>>>> idiots and irresponsible behaviors are all around us.... the answer is NOT further idiocy and the use of simply, DIFFERENT abhorant behaviors... sure I'm just as equally disgusted by such mistreatment, as everyone here... but trust me the answer is not MORE mistreatment... as posted.... HELL is for such people.... and karma will catch up with them.. as their Just reward..hopefully sooner than later... ( i'm reffering to the abusers..... not the posters here.. who are distraught with emotion) many many children are the victims of unbalanced adults in their lives.... The cure is not simple... but whenever warning signs have been exhibited, those who witness such signs must do what they can to either intervene before such calamity raises it's ugly head, or else alert the proper authorities so that Protection can be given to the innocents who are unable to protect themselves,, on their own... by being caught between a rock and a hard place.... I meant as the speechmaker... who MADE the strong statements, which explained the position which the administration ( Powell included) had chosen to follow... Of course if EVERYone involved was relying on the so-called " government intelligence" ( Now there's an OXYmoron for you ) ,, and even as outlandish as it sounded....IF they all,, or most of them thought it was true.....then they proceeded accordingly... HAD Powell known for a certainty that the Information was flawed, he DOES seem to me like the kind of man who would POINT that out to the boss....... and let the chips fall where they may... problem was....... the BAD ( or perhaps even fabricated) field reports, were accepted as true,,,, becouse the Admin... needed them to be "true"... Bush wanted S Hussein, from the moment he entered that Oval Office ....if for nothing else,, than to restore himself in the eyes of his Father....... too bad, he led us down a path to war..(a Damn expensive war.... in terms of Money Prestige, and most importantly LIVES.... on both sides of the battle front.) due to his own personal insecurities... but that's a whole Other thread... jmy a 3914 d 12122

Quote well maybe i was harsh. But if he'd have backed McCain, i would NOT have blamed him... I felt all along that he was pressed against his own better judgement, to declare the threat of WMDs. Bush was duped himself... because he wanted to be duped... I won't give Bush the credit for fabricating the mis-information.. others behind the scenes can have that credit... but Powell was the man whose JOB description, demanded that HE present the final 'declaration', whether he agreed with it or not... Perhaps his dedication, and sense of loyalty to THE OFFICE,,, of president, and not necessarily the Man who was president , was exactly the result of his stature, AS a 4 star general... Would you not agree that most Career officers within ANY of our fine branches of the Military would do the exact same thing... Powell was truly between a rock and a hard place then...... he was Not in that predicament this past sunday morning.. I learned a while ago.. " you don't shoot the messenger, because you don't like the message".. jimmytavino

_______________________________________________ Preceeding his 'announcement' with a series of facts, deductions, observations, and yes maybe opinions, even if it takes some time, is a lot different than say, joining the Candidate on stage, "stumping for him or her on the campaign trail", recording video or audio recommendations.. I think that when asked " Are you endorsing Sen. Obama"? , his reply was 'negative'.. as for steering voters that way??...... well maybe.. Although that could just be, the residual effect of the broadcast of a knowledgeable and respected leader,,, on many an undecided citizen...Not sure if it can be said that the Gen . had that intention... He was just One man talking about one vote, His..... and depending on just WHERE his vote is cast....it could be that it is an inconsequential vote anyway... within the greater context of the electoral college.... jmy

i try to watch Meet The Press, as often as I can. and sadly miss Tim Russert. Brokaw has been doing an acceptable job . I have great respect for Colin Powell. and lament the fact that He was "duped" into being the Mouthpiece for the Bush/Cheney pre war propaganda machine... Soooo it was with great interest that i tuned in. The Gentleman said that he intends to vote for the democratic candidate BUT specifically indicated he Would NOT "Endorse" him.... I took that to mean that while he finds Obama to be a valid person for whom to vote, he would not be campaigning for him, and would not be attempting to steer voters that way.. He raised the respect level, that i already had for him.. ( Powell) ... willingless to vote for someone, and making that intention clear to the world at large, is technically not the same as "recommending that others do the same"...... One man one vote... jmy

i was long time ago I was with 3 friends ( victimless 'crime' NO property damage) ..Got handcuffed, with my arms around a tree!!! for God's sake... ( idiot overzealous sherrifs deputy) then handcuffed in the cop car and taken directly to arraignment... from there to county jail, till some buddies could scrounge around and raise the bail..( times 4....) out within 24 hours though... didn't like it much... ( WAS able to determine who the local Narcs were, as they were wandering around the jail area, being noisy , bragging, and 'comparing notes' ) jmy

i'll 2nd "homemade" we DO buy the dough, however. let it rise for a couple of hours, then roll it out,( i have a flour covered breadboard, which is used to stretch and shape the pizza). then the sauce, some dried basil, some salt , and toppings of your choice, such as pepperoni, mushrooms, black olives, 2 or three different types of cheeses and of course lots and lots of mozzarella Sometimes, no other toppings,,, Just mozzarella bake at 425 for maybe 15 or 20 minutes... good and tasty... BUT nowadays about one and a half times the co$t of take out.. still it provides us with a great AROMA,,, as well as great taste, and gives the kids something FUN to do,,, as we prepare it... in winter,,, I get on a kick,,, where I make homemade pizza at LEAST once a week... mamma Mia!!!!! that's somma gooooood peetsszaaaa

Instructors are the key to having information presented to a new jumper.. and the USPA process which creates instructors, does a pretty good job of making sure that Novice skydivers receive accurate, constructive, consistant and encouraging information.... However UNLESS that instructor has Actual "camera person" experience, AND is very very attentive to the students... sadly, i don't think THEY are the best 'evaluators' of a persons' readiness to jump cameras... Sure they can monitor the new members of the community and MAYBE rate them against other new members to ascertain a jumpers' ability to accept a new challenge... BUT i'm not sure that all Instructors would have that inate ability to deem someone,,, ready or Not for cameras... it's sorta like,,, "if you have to ask,,, you're not ready"..... An instructor is valuable as a person with whom to discuss the matter... but should not be the one to DECIDE,,,,, if any "Johnny Jumper" is ready to shoot video... ALSO be VERY VERY careful of any DZO who is "pushing" for people to go get cameras,,, only so that he/she ( the DZO ) can meet the market demand for SELLING videos to the Tandem customers,,,,, the incentive really should never be.... " to make money"...IMHO I'll take a careful, safety conscious, technical camera wanna-be, who has artistry and creativity in mind,,,,, any day. over someone who is simply looking to " subsidize my fun jumps, with work jumps"... How can you tell the difference?? well the artistic type is often willing to spend on gear, equipment AND lift tickets,,, doing camera jumps at his or her own expense, and freely skydiving with friends for the joy of it,, and NOT just "taking the camera(s) " on a tandem or AFF jump when the $$$$$ clock is turned on... setting goals and reaching for them is great and this sport is amazing in that, there are many many disciplines which we can persue ... stay on track with your goals but stay reasonable and honest in your own self evaluation as you progress towards those goals.. good luck

What would it take to get you to change your vote?
jimmytavino replied to MikeForsythe's topic in Speakers Corner
a presidential candidate with the slogan, " an Otter in every hangar, and Jet A a buck a gallon" THAT person ,,, has MY vote. -
Re: ready to jump camera...??? enthusiasm is good BUT you need a great deal of awareness, from the point of gearing up, until you're safely back in the packing area. your freefall skills must be solidly "second nature", and that takes years for some people,, and decades for others. you must be willing to accept critique', and must purposely seek out advice on technique, positioning, camera gear, and even jumping gear.... nobody comes into that discipline, ( freefall videography) as a prodigy.... ( well mostly Nobody).... It takes time , often waaaaay more than 200 jumps,,,

i made over 900 jumps on a French Papillon back before "they figured Out " squares... many jumps resulted in landings due to winds,, which had us dealing with "negative ground speed".. I developed a technique, whereby i would cross my arms above my head, just before landing,,,,grasping each rear riser, and Then quickly uncrossing my arms with risers in hand.. this would 180 my Body, under the round,,,, and although the canopy was still facing forward,,, I would land facing backward.... sometimes i'd have to run it out.... sometimes, i'd land standing up, in place, sometimes i'd fall down !~!!! but every time,,,,,,, it was an adventure!!! KKeenan??? isn't it true that some CReW instructors would don their rigs with main attached, backwards??? soas to face those novices,, who were docking on them???? from behind and below,,, ( before top docking was acceptable) ?.. seems that for sure,, i have read of that..... not sure what techniques were employed for landing.... but it certainly gave the Base person a real good view of the approaching docker.... jmy

there IS another choice..... but it is a sad commentary on the current state of affairs.... that choice...???? abstain from voting altogether,,,, for POTUS.. i will vote, on election day , as I always do. but for local , state , and proposition items... It becoming very VERY hard to truly "support' either of these Presidential candidates.... so in good conscience,, I may have to vote for neither... jmy

hmmmmm well Biden IS a contemporary and colleague to Senator McCain, and sure THEY could have been on "first name basis" years ago... But this was different... She really isn't a colleague, hell according to what He said.. they only JUST met... again, it just seemed a little too "chummy" to me... AND too choreographed.... that's all. jimmy

what was the deal??? with the very very start of the evening, when the Candidates first walked on stage, and shook hands???? She said, very loudly and clearly, "is it OK if i call you JOE"??? Huh??? The guy is a Senator for decades,,,, a job which requires constant RE-Election..... and which deserves a certain amount of Respect....like him or not... and Palin wants to call him JOE!???. as if he's the local butcher, or Mailman?? THAT line sounded,, awfully Coached.... and inserted as a quick jab. to start her off on a positive...literally putting Him in an awkward spot.... i so would have enjoyed it,, if Biden had responded... "NO... please call me Senator"... since he's earned that title... i know I know.. i'm being petty.. but that question of hers,, sounded Sooooo NON spontaneous,,, and planned.... and I didn't care for the "casual" atmosphere it was trying to create.... This is serious business,, not a picnic at the park.... i didn't much care for her "folksiness"... and If she's gonna say NUKE-U-Lar.....That alone,, makes my skin crawl......... ImHO jmy
