  1. Yes. for years now. victorinox there are a variety of models, some with many many many tools... some smaller, with just a couple of blades, and 2 screwdrivers, some have an ink pen, a corkscrew, toothpick, the one i have right now also has pliars, scissors, nail file, tweezers... I use it Often,,, mostly the knives and the screwdrivers. I also carry a tiny tiny pair of Vise-Grips,, smallest size they make, which gives me a set of wire cutters, and a set of wrenches, from 1/4 inch up to about 3/4 inch... Even Metric...

    Sleep

sleep loss will get the better of you in a hurry,,, so it's good you're asking about this..... Are you getting enough physical activity in a day to become tired??... some jobs are strenuous, (skilled trades, nursing, farm/Ag ) and other jobs are not... ( Office person, Desk work )... Do you excersize at all?? every day???
  3. no no no TK's M-in-Law still WANTS the house.... so stink bomb their vehicles.... AT some place OTHER than the property in question... "tenants" who demand "rights" but display NO 'responsibility', and fail to PAY RENT.... deserve little mercy..... the arrogance to remain in the house or apartment, is unjustified... and unwarranted... once it becomes chronic,, it should become criminal..... how about some old time 'wild West justice'??? any gunslingers for hire, out there??? Check the local pennysavers for "clint eastwood types".... 'the most powerful handgun in the WORLD.... and WILL blow Your head, CLEAN OFF!!!" wish i could be of more help. In rental property it helps for the owner ONLY, to have Locked access to the water main.. so that at the Landlords discretion, ( especially when justified by a court ordered eviction) the water to the place can be shut OFF... regardless of who pays the bill...( or doesn't). Will local ordinances allow you to shut off the electric???? anyway,, good luck. edited to emphasize, 'will' .... jt
  4. roger that BV for some reason i thought you'd only been there a couple of years... wildlife CAN help to spread and disperse seeds, from a variety of plants. Birds, rabbits, woodchucks etc. might have helped to bring that palnt to your place... weed or not, it's a pretty flower... jmy
  5. looks like some sort of a day lily... could it have been planted there, by previous owners of the property.???.. and just never noticed til now??. some perennials can be unnoticed...UNTIL they bloom. disclaimer.. I am NOT a botanist... but i knew a little about certain plants,,,
  6. "pilot chute was definitely cocked, did it myself.." could be... BEFORE the pack job.... BUT a P C can "uncock " itself, real easily during the course of being stuffed in the bag.. the important thing to check , would have been that the P C was still cocked, after the pack job was complete... i don't avail myself of the services of a packer, too often, BUT whenever i do, i always check the pC window Before donning the gear...(in fact i check that, even when I did the pack job....) it's a good habit to get into... that kill line can and DOES slide , quite a bit, between when a jumper first sets it. and when a packer is done bagging it... a visual check is crucial after retrieving your rig from the packing area.... Always be sure that you see color in the PC window. right??? jmy
  7. upon first reading about this topic...I thought... these colleges are simply looking for a way to insulate themselves from LIABILITY issues... resulting from BAD incidents, ( such as DEATH ) from "binge drinking"... it has very little to do with any feigned 'concern' about the well being of the students... someone Under 21 . gets blasted at a frat party or in a dorm room.....something bad occurs,,, and the Institute, could face lawsuits. Move the age down to 18, and suddenly the loss is still sad,,, but there is NO culpability on the part of the college... what a shame... show me the list of physicians, social scientists, and local, state or federal ELECTED representatives, who are in FAVOR of this idea.... we have Lots more to deal with in the world... than ALLOWING freshmen and sophmore College kids to drink..... it well may happen anyway... and we all know that there are many out there, who have problems with "limitations", and never know when to stop.....when it comes to drinking.... rather than pander to this crowd, and Hand them the rules which will allow for and YES even encourage such nonsense.... why Not try a RADICAL approach.... that of asking for and even demanding, Responsibility and adherance to the existing SENSIBLE laws which are already in place... if college kids can be smart enough to GET INTO college in the first place,,, can't they be smart enough to know when to say, enough is enough??? Alcohol is a pernicious, and proven KILLER... yet it is socially acceptable, yes, even encouraged...( think of the Billion dollar advertising industry selling beer like it was water. Convincing people that you can't enjoy a Televised sporting event, without a 6 pack nearby,,,,and hell, Even inventing a Vented beer can,, so one can suck them down faster... Of course the vast majority of drinkers, regardless of age. are sensible about it, (some having learned the HARD way,,,i.e. near death experiences with alcohol poisoning, loss of friends to irresponsible drunk driving,, wicked hangover issues, after such regalia,,) some still see drinking, and binge drinking in particular, as some sort of escape, from the "drudgery and demands, of college life " in a country full of whiney demanders,,,Now it seems that the HEADS of our Universities seem willing to give Up on the issue, and rather than educate, and require that students, behave In a ( God Forbid) sensible and responsible way... These leaders... who are all Knocking down 6 figures,,, from the tuition and fees, shelled out by overstretched parents,, who get very little for their $$$$$$, wanna just shrug their shoulders, throw up their hands in frustration, and adopt an "Animal House " mentality..... gives new meaning to the term, "Higher Education".... good idea?? Bad idea???? i vote for bad... jmy
  8. let's not expose Any such liability to that fine release system, invented by a Titan in the skydiving industry..... the 3 ring 'circus'...
  9. "out of the BLUE of the western Sky" It's SKY KING!!!!! EVERY saturday.. brought to you, by Lorna Doone Cookies it used to come on the ole' black and white TV right after Fury!!! signed, a 50's kid.
  10. the climb out is crucial to a proper poised exit... ... and the best tool to use for that?????? your EYES... Look exactly where your feet are going. I always watch my foot or feet , as they are going to the step... of course I have a hold of the strut. but that is done by feel. Stay low, so that your rig is not smacking against the door which is folded up against the underside of the wing...I know that is tough for a tall person.. but it's important... TAKE your time.... Don't move like a slug... but do Not rush either.... years ago when mains were round, and the "spot" was crucial.. jumpers were sometimes rushed off the plane, by the JM, before they were mentally and physically ready.. today the range for the spot is greater and " getting back" isn't so much an issue... Now once you are nicely ON the step, THEN shift your view Up and forward, , or else Up and inward, to stay in synch with others who may be giving you an exit command, or who may be joining you on the dive... Now your attention shifts from staying Attached to the plane, to preparing to " DeTatch" from the plane. balance is needed, and you have to be READY,,, for the departure... Breathe, concentrate, alert yourself to the next move , which is to 'disconnect' from the aircraft... head Up left foot only on the step, flex in your left knee,,, leave this poised position , with your foot breaking contact, a split second before your Hands press the strut away from you... kick off about 45 degrees to the right, and the rear. It helps me to load my arms,,, thereby unloading the weight on my left leg ,,, just as it's time to go... Since it's a real cool visual,,,
  11. If MY job was "mowing Lawns" AND i had a thousand dollars.... I'd buy a used pickup for 1,000 dollars.... then each month, i'd stash the 4 or 500 bucks that your Guy is spending on his truck, Into a savings account.... IF the "one grand P/U" hangs in there and lasts for a while,,,, by the time it's really "junk",,,, i'd have a few thousand in the bank....( providing the truck lasts 6 or 8 months...) Then.. I'd buy a different OLD truck, for 50 % of what i had saved,,, and use the rest for lift tickets
  12. shouldda wished for.... "unlimited wishes for the rest of your life" then you couldda had a Million dollars and a blow job and what the hell,,,, How about a couple of Super Otters...??? then save some more wishes for tomorrow!!!
  13. Not Keith Richards, he's preserved. ....."pickled" would be a better description.... jimmy
  14. i've gradually raised my pull altitude, over time. back in the times before AADs and snivelly mains,,, we all pulled around 2 grand... some Lower... of course then, we were only getting 7-5, or 8-5, outta the cessna, and so we all grabbed a little "extra" freefall time, at the bottom,, ( Dumb idea) malfunctions on round mains, were not so dramatic, as they can be today, with highly loaded wings... However as age and wisdom, began to prevail, AND as we started getting Real altitude 13 k or higher..... And as my "reflexes" have slowed,, I've adjusted deployment altitudes,,, to something more sensible... I usually like to pull above 3 grand, as long as circumstances allow for it to be done safely...( which is usually the case)... If i'm doing video, and have been granted "the center",, I am THERE,,, and deploying, shortly after breakoff.. providing that the skydive was complete ( i.e. there are no people Out, and "unaccounted for".. ( worse thing for a video person is when a fun jump does NOT complete, and the question becomes, "where the hell is EVERYone/ usually those unable to fly into a formation, could be the very ones, who freak out, and can toss a Pilot Chute, right in your face... while doing video, i am more tuned in to, who is NOT there, than i am to, who is IN... ) Parachuting has always been a favorite of mine, and I enjoy time under canopy, so why steal 5 seconds more, in freefall??? if it means a Minute or so LESS, under canopy?? skydive safely, skydive often, skydive with friends jmy
  15. old.....but still timely... it was the late 60's early 70's and one of my brothers went out and bought an LP record Album.....Aqualung... we had a deal then, that since all the kids would usually listen to any album which ONE of us had purchased,,, that we would all pitch in to cover the purchase price.... Well, i'm thinking,, " Aqualung"???? Jethro Tull?? what the heck is THAT????, but went ahead, and kicked in MY dollar..... The only Jethro ... I Knew about, was Jethro Bodine , son of Pearl Bodine, and grandson of Jed Clampett..!!!! well we started listening to that record.... and it was just great.... so great in fact, that when i went to college a couple of years later,, i'm pretty sure that i STOLE that album, from my brother, to take with me.... hahaha STILL have it too.... wow 40 years ago , almost... Thanks Rky, for the great YouTube link....(as well as, for your lovely avatar)
  16. lets add a little science to this topic. basic cessna jump plane, right side exit open door, a 200 pound jumper, siiting RIGHT NEXT TO IT>>>>
  17. people have been "leaning on me" for decades sometimes it's literally and sometimes it's figuratively this is a sport where a certain degree of "body contact" occurs....( and NO i'm NOT talking about after hours activities,,, ) I mean packing into planes, dirt diving, SKY diving, and then the eventual High Fives, afterwards... Newbies "lean on" their instructors for advice , encouragement, energy and even sometimes, sympathy... I have no problems with a person sitting close to me, during the climb.... so long as they are a BIT considerate and not crushing any important body parts of mine...AND they don't have B O ... The usual comments i hear while boarding are,,, "You OK"?,, and "am I crushing you"?, "How's that"? and similar sorts of caring inquiries... jumpers are usually considerate about that... If you're not happy with the boarding and seating situation, bring it up, calmly and non aggressively,,, and work it out... hell man if someone is 'crushing' you,, AND you sit there for the entire climb saying Nothing..... then ya' get what ya' get......
  18. thank you all for a very educational thread... for a long time we dubbed videos onto VHS and mixed some some tunes, (originally on a cassette tape ) and then from CD's and all was well with the world.... the new tandem enthusiasts were happy. the dzo was happy and the hard working videographers could finish a weekend with a strong sense of satisfaction...
  19. Well Done !!!! and a fine picture, as well. i had to look really hard, but i finally did find That green jumpsuit i was lookin' for... I was surprised at how Little green, there was... amongst the colors of the formation... "Q - Ball" green suit , red and white grippers....!! i had remembered that there was a large boogie planned for this summer. it looks like it's going to be a success...
  20. to the O P ... some of the decision may need to based on where you are. and in what sort of plane, you may or may not, have access to... a big plane with lots of room and which gives you 13-five or 14 grand, will allow you and your son to share the entire experience, including watching fun jumpers exit before you...So then, go tandem, it will be great... But if you are at a C 180 or a C182 DZ, then that sort of arrangement lends itself to static line... Doing a tandem or AFF from such aircraft requires a Longer climb, to less altitude, ( 10,500 ft or so ) packed more tightly, with 2 tandem masters, ( or AFFI's ) and if you or your son, are tall or big guys,,, then a tandem outta a cessna, takes a lot more effort, and that's before you even begin, heading to the door... ( The tm's who do their work from 4 place airplanes, are the true current day heros of the sport...) S L was for decades,,, the only training program available, and many MANY a jumper came into the sport , in that way... The plane would be suited to 3 students and their Jumpmaster. the climb to exit altitude is comfortably prompt, the step is usually,,, right there and fun to climb onto, and the immediacy of the canopy deployment,, gives the first timer a real sense of..."Security".. and Just at the very moment it is needed,
  21. hahaha lucky thing he didn't get SHOT!!! good video... jmy

  23. selective termination of a fetus based on diagnostic intervention is NOT the way to go. IMHO upon conception, a couple, and primarily a woman, may face a tough decision, as it is. Hopefully most pregnacies are welcome, but in reality not all, are. However once a choice is made to continue with the creation of this person, any "news" or " diagnosis" or "curve ball" which may come to be,, should not be used as a reason to "bail", on parental responsibility. Regardless of the seriousness of the issue. frankly , Down Syndrome, while a real challenge , is not the worst malady with which a child could be born. with proper pediatric care , and follow up, as the child grows, and with Love and extra educational attention, from the family as well as any supporting educators, Speech therapists, Physiologists, etc,,, the DS members of our families, communities, and lives , CAN be happy healthy and as time goes by, productive and contributing members...
