rumored: Britol Palin's wedding may be used as PR boost
jimmytavino replied to SpeedRacer's topic in Speakers Corner
BEST use of smiley faces....... i've seen,,,, in a long time... hahaha very good. edited, * upon reconsideration... so when IS this event going to happen? if it's ANY time before election day....... i'd label it bad judgement, as well a a P R stunt..... * as long as the decision has been made, to marry, and begin a family, then the sooner the better.. for everyone.... However it ought to occur, on a very local level to the family of the Governor, ought NOT be a "blown out of proportion" wedding... should occur with a minimum of "public scrutiny" and certainly NO papparazzi...... still i wager it will deteriorate in just another celebrity fiasco, the further "peoplemagazine-ification" of the politics of this nation... Any reason . ?? >> the couple could not have married in a civil ceremony sometime Before the Grandmother ( the 44 year old, grandmother) was named the V P candidate???.. they must have known about " their wonderful news", at least 2 or 3 months ago... or are we waiting for one or the other future parent to finish being a H S KID,,, first.??? it'll be interesting to see how this plays out.. jt -
is this the SAME stock market, that all the "experts" wanted to 'invest ' all the Social Security Trust $$$$$$$$ in, not too long ago??? that didn't happen so now they look for a "bail out". just as CEO millions, bonuses, and exhorbitant paychecks were 'direct deposited', into personal accounts,,, WWWWHY can't some % of that Unearned, and Unfair compensation, be "direct withdrawn" ??? and THAT money used for this purpose....??? have THOSE who not only turned their backs on this issue,,, ( it did NOT occur overnight) but failed in their fiscal and Ethical responsibilities, in the first place.... pay a fair share towards the remedy.. Those decision makers, reaped millions and millions, while "rome was burning",,, and Now while most of them are scrambling today, to stash $$$ in off shore accounts,, or out of this country real estate paradise, condos, homes and million dollars properties, the rest of "us poor schlepps", will be left holding (the empty ) bag.... what a mess. jmy

a fine and wonderful Man, Actor and Philanthropist. My wife and i had the occasion to Meet Him and Joanne Woodward, in the most Unlikeliest situation.... we were visiting in Wash. DC it was about 7 or 8 years ago,,, and we went to the smithsonian gallery of ART... nancy and the kids were wandering in and out of the various Gallery rooms, and I was sitting on a sofa in one of them,, noticing people..... Well I look around, and there is ONLY 1 other person in the room with me, a Man who is reading the details about a painting hanging on the wall.. Well i see the man, and he is wearing these bifocals,, waaay down on the end of his nose... i do a double take... Hmmm. I remain seated and say nothing til my wife returns and I say to her.... " Jeeze.. look at that man, over there,,,, if that guy was a little Younger looking, and a Little taller.. he could be Paul Newman"... hahaha. well just then, Joanne Woodward walks into the room to stand next to him.. adn we both realize.. that He IS P. newman, and she is Mrs. paul newman...

Just curious, did you feel the same way when Geraldine Ferraro was running with Mondale? very good question, one i've been waiting for. No i did not give that situation the same attention that i do to this one. That was 24 years ago, and in 1984,,, that could have been the way that history might have chosen for it to occur... I did vote for that ticket... but of course I think that Walter Mondales, age and health, were then, not an issue, and I honestly never thought about a Pres. Ferraro, other than offhandedly... It turned out to be a moot point... ( as i hope this situation will ) Had They prevailed , and HAD something occured to allow Ms. Ferraro to succeed to the presidency, her validity would have only truly been cemented,,,if She were to be Re-elected the following term.. Today, decades later, and with lots of progress on the part of the electorate to accept a Woman POTUS, and on the part of MANY long serving leaders, Senators, CongressWomen with faaaar deeper experiences, ON capitol hill, to set into that role, .... i'd not feel right, with this lesser experienced person. In THIS current day and age for it to occur in the way THIS scenario,, could play out, just bugs me. To a certain extent i'm mad @ McCain for creating what I call, "the people magazine-ification" of this election... it Not a damn popularity contest or American idol contest , for God's sake... I believe that maybe,,, one of the reasons that Hillary Clinton was not selected for ( or declined to accept) a Veep nomination, just might be this very concept... that the First...WPOTUS.. really ought to earn that spot. as a bonifide Presidential candidate ...

in what way WOULD GW Bush be qualified to understand the complexities of the current crisis??? didn't He... run a couple of oil companies into the ground ?/ before he became a "Professional Politician"?? He was a self admitted slacker while in college. and learned mostly how to drink and take drugs...I don't recall hearing about any PhD. in economics,,, or ANYthing else,, for that matter... he's been working the numbers, IN the WROng direction,,, for years... I e deficit spending,,, instead of making careful and justified expenditures, after seeking counsel from others who ARE knowledgeable.. He's the deciderer...... or so he claims, staunchly ignoring input from people who are educated about certain things... That is POOR leadership and it's resulted in a POOR economy and a Poor reputation for the USA, all across the globe... sad jmy

God NO!!! i used to see her on NBC's weekend Today program. (w/Lester Holt) she irritated the hell out of me.. not sure just WHY.... but sexy??? fugedaboutit... jmy

what really irks me, is that the G O P has set the stage , by which it IS possible that the First Woman Pres. of the U S could attain that position, "by default".. i.e. the death of a sitting pres...(should this ticket get elected.) the First Woman Pres MUST be elected by the electoral college,, ON election Day, and AS the presidential candidate.... anything else tarnishes the accomplishment.. and frankly there is a LONG line, of Women,, both Democrats And Repubs.. who deserve that honor... for that reason alone... i won't vote for their ticket... jmy

get a small "have-a-hart" trap.. bait it with a peanut butter on bread... leave it set , overnight.. HOPE the damn thing goes in it, and springs it... take it outside and release it. get rid of the cat j ps... two weeks ago, as I greet my wife in the kitchen at 6:45 Am and she hands me a cup of coffee, she also says,, " Jim there's a bat in the laundry room".... Just like THAT... No shrieking, no hysterics, or anything!!>>> I say... "WHAT????".. are you sure??. is it a Bird?? or a moth??? . She replies,, "I think it's a Bat.. it flew right past me'!!! Whoa.. so i go to the room, which is separated into a laundry area, and a small office area,, with a glass french door... Sure enough,, a damn Bat flies by me, and goes in the office... So NOW i close the door behind it,, and I am outside the door,, adn this thing is Flying around INSIDE,, and it's freakin' BIG!!!!.. and I'm scared..... Whoa.. i'm thinking,, Imagine being in Nancy's shoes, and NOT expecting this,,, and here.. she WARNED me about it... and my knees are STILL knocking....... so anyway. I grab this wooden "in-box tray" for papers,,,, and I figure,, "i'm gonna lay this box over it,, once it lights on something," only it stops and before i could do it, it starts flying again... THEN i look closely and see that the box has a whole in it, and the bat wouldda flown out ANYWAY... sooo I change my plan. and find a small chunk of 1 by 4 pine, about 2 feet long.. I lurked behind the glass door, and as he ( I GUESS it was a HE...), is flying around, I wait til he's in the middle of the room, throw the door open, leap into the room, and swat at the poor thing, with this stick... Bang...down he goes.. to the floor, still floppin' around , so i had to bap him one more time. yuch!!! i put the box over him, and shut the door... an hour later i gingerly removed the box and w ith a plastic bag over my hand, went and wrapped him up and took him out.... EEEEEW... it was creepy , yet scientifically fascinating, all at once.. The wingspan was 12 inches, yet the body was smaller than a field mouse... ( or a chipmunk)

The Yankees or the Mets.... was a real Battle Line, within our family for 40 years.... The Yankees go waaay back. the Mets...?? the young 'upstarts'.. both with great histories.. the Yankess cause they Dominated...... before Parity within the major leagues struck... ( free agency etc). I never rooted for them, But always liked Mickey, and Yogi and Whitey and Maris... Only went to Yankee Stadium Once, but am now glad i did... The "urban renewal",,, " out with the old in with the new" attitude , has run rampant. Coupled with limited real estate square footage..available in some cities... i guess the current thing is... turn a parking lot into a stadium, and then turn the stadium into a parking lot.... Same thing is happening at Shea... I saw on the news that Jeter led the team around the circumference of the stadium,, thanking fans, and glad handing everyone.. That was nice...meanwhile people , ( those same fans) , are arrested for stealing mementos... hahaha. Only in New York baby,,, only in New york. Over in Queens,,they are still clinging to the hope of getting in this years' playoffs... but this thread is about the Yankees j

Question about spotting.
jimmytavino replied to npgraphicdesign's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Technically speaking.... THE SPOT.... is different EVERY day, and in fact can be different on every jump.....( depending on just how PRECISE we want to be...) You , with the help of others here, can now figure THAT one out... have at it. jimmy -
it's refreshing to read about jumper who "got it" right away, and progressed at a great pace, in short time. we all see that , once in a while at the dropzone... Were you jumping with the camera before you got hurt elsewhere??? if so, that would be important. if your profile numbers are correct, then it speaks well to your DZO, instructors, mentors, and yourself, that you were safely flying video, at that point... Heck,, I never had a camera Flying seminar !! so well done. it's been tough to keep up with the improvements and growth in the camera specific helmets, which are currently available.. Great styles, great safety, great comfort. Do your homework and try to see and hold in your hands...a sample of anything you might consider buying... I am partial to top mount for w/b issues and side by side cameras,, work ok for me. Top mount Nikon D70S over my right eye, Sony HDR-HC3 on my left, cameye for indicator purposes only. camera controls operated by hand, at the camera,,, Still switch is Laszlo adapter and Sonic's pro-shop tongue switch. the top plate is wide enough so that NO part of either camera extends past it. I use a Bonehead BatRak, which i bought second hand about 4 or 5 years ago. The BatRak is nice because the "ears" are hollow and allow for the room needed to stash the cam-eye switch, excess wire length, and the still camera adapter connection. I bought it second hand from M McGowan... ( i feel like George Costanza when he Bought "Jon Voights' Chrysler Le Baron" ) hahaha I've never used a sidemount, but i did have a canon 35mm still ,,, on my forehead for a while...It was a bit tooo much cantilever effect, and so i scrapped the idea... well,, continued recovery jump when you can . good thread. jmy a3914 nscr 1817

THAT is a LOT of camera, friend.... are you jumping with it as your ONly camera? or do you also have video? how is it mounted? if your #'s are correct... i'd check strongly, with your dzo and local Vid. people, to allow them to assess your readiness to be flying with the added complexity of any camera... experience.. is way more than a word on a page.. and we can't just 'claim' it for our own. It has to be bestowed on us,,,,after a substantial amount of 'trial and error'.... when the errors are few and far between,,,,then 'you're just getting started...' skydive safely jmy
