  1. ....you can take photos like the ones below...
  2. Great.... It is a real challenge to accomplish your AFF exits from a cessna,, ( little step , hanging on the strut) as compared to exiting from a large door turbine...... especially in cold weather,, with gloves ...I fondly recall all those days of climbing out under the wing of a 182 or 180.....while making my static line jumps.....and early freefalls... your enthusiasm will carry you far. be safe,, stay safe. Glad to hear that everything is "Adding Up " for you
  3. no... i received one,,, but i didn't " get it"...sorry... I only affix one of the round USPA member red white and blue stickers....not much for all the rest... NOW .... if you really wanna reduce Road Rage, and if bumper to bumper traffic contributes to R Rage ... then the cure is simple....... Only allow On the roads, anywhere..... Cars that are fully PAID for...... now, wasn't that easy ????
  4. Yeah, that was the same band of wackos who were also making square throw-out pilot chutes. I still have mine (but never jumped it.) HW Jimmy Tavino used one of those to deploy his Papillon - probly the onliest skideever in history to deploy a round canopy wid' a square pilot chute ! Well I wasn't one of the "wacko" riggers up there.. Some thought that j parker was a "jumping genius"... anyway i certainly WAS a "satisfied Customer!!!!." hahahah lots of us bought a piggyback rig which was built there,,, the Parker Pig.. Custom Colors ... 225 dollars!!! new!! this was in 1976... ( and I think the last i heard,,,, the TSO on that rig,,,,,,,,,, "should be comin' through, "ANY day Now". ) i guess we were ALL test jumpers... I made about 350 jumps on that rig, then got a REAL rig ,,, a wonderhog with 3 rings..
  5. so ready to go ????? i bet you are!!! Do you jump on sat. the 24th??? now that you have tasted the vanilla ice cream of a 'skydiving sundae' , prepare yourself for the whipped cream, chocolate sauce, peanuts, candy sprinkles, butterscotch sauce and the Cherry on top...
  6. what a fine looking aircraft.... i can see why you 'can't jump'...It's seems natural to me that flying that Plane is plenty exciting enough..... In order for you to share some of that excitement with family and friends ,, Sure thing!!! a good SONY camcorder can help you do just that!!! as mentioned, go for Mini DV.. the Sony PC series and TRV series are all well acclimated to "open air", ( open cockpit) recording... You may be able to mount such a camcorder on your plane... In such a way, that you can also be a subject ,,, if you can turn to face the camera.... then you can also do some narration prior to, or right after shooting a particular maneuver, or other item of interest.. These models have a hand held remote, which you could use to go from standby to record, (A red indicator light, usually somewhere near the lens, will tell you that you're up and recording. ) .. you can also zoom and go wide angle with that same remote...
  7. HUH????? what's an RV?? what's carb Ice??? It that soda water ?? that's been frozen??? There are OTHER forums in this world????? HUH?? oh sorrry... i thought this was the "entertain CSpenceFLY" thread... ok gotta go shovel the driveway.... HUH!!!???? jimmy
  8. differentiate between your jumping gear and your camera gear...and prepare each to the best ability possible. be sure all your jumping gear is in good to excellent condition, well cared for, in date, and correctly maintained... No need for unnecessary 'incidents' due to worn closing loops. or old velcro, dirty release housings. or a hurry hurry pack job... always try to arrive at the DZ ,,,, Packed... then concentrate on having your camera gear all set and ready to go BEFORE you arrive at the DZ....this means charging batteries, cueing up tapes, assuring adequate memory space for new snapshots....correct and proper connections for cam eye,,,shutter releases and quick connects to the helmet... Rushing around, and scrambling during the ten minute call to take care of such 'pre-jump necessities' can put you behind the curve, before you even get to the plane..... ( "oh Damn,,,, I forgot my goggles and altimeter" ) best to be geared and ready 10 minutes too early, than 2 minutes too late... Have a decent system in place so that your camera gear is well organized, with back up components readily available.. such as tapes, batteries, chargers, memory media, switches, sights, and electronics... Some good advice from experienced camera people includes donning all your jumping gear FIRST,,,, and then proceeding to the camera helmet etc... only when all the rest is done... Be patient with others, be patient with yourself, be ready to light up that vid. camera as needed and learn to look for the 'video-worthy' situations, on the ground, during the climb, and in the air... Always be altitude aware, so that your are set to go when the red light comes on... Pay attention to any ceiling limitations which could require an earlier than expected jumprun.... be nice to people,, and smile when asked,,, "hey man !!! can i get a dub of that??"
  9. ....would have bought a Twin Otter,,,,,, or TWO !!!!! instead of a House !!! seriously!!!!! jmy
  10. If you're from Up north and you have a chance to be In Florida any time... and especially in Feb.... then the rules ARE..... bring your rig!!!!!
  11. ..... NO sir !!!!! If YOU are not with US.... ( and HE is NOT with the "common man".. the taxpayer, the one who foots the bills,,,,),, then you are a monarchy, NOT a democracy.. If the man who spouts that term ( democracy) over and over, doesn't even GET that his job is to do the bidding of the people through the work of the legislative and judicial systems,,, then as we have seen,,, all is lost.. Like many executives,,, our current exec. branch of govt., is about doing what they want,,, passing the buck, covering their asses, and in another year or so,, dancing away from this whole world wide mess..( with the most "goldenest" of golden parachutes),,,,, to "retire , hunt, write their memoirs", and live in blissful happiness ... unconvinced and unrepentant of the damage they have done.....at Home AND abroad...... So to hear he "lied".... I'm not surprised... ALL executives lie ... don't they??? jmy
  12. welll .. for skydiving?? sure... as long as you're standing on the ground... no offense, but an average of 20 jumps a year,,, and you're borderline safe, just to be skydiving yourself...... Unless you are a true prodigy.. you need to double up your numbers at a minimum, before adding the complexity of a video camera. as to your question about suitablility in general. it's a good one... You don't even have to 'search ' for the subject. just scroll through the most recent pages of posts, here.... I think you'll see discussion about the HDR CX7..... safety first. and safety second,, too..... jimmytavino
  13. generally sub-letting means someone else assumes YOUR lease for its duration... But you say "instead of moving".....so i think you are considering a room mate... is that correct??? .. if so,,, and if you have a lease.. just see if she can likewise sign a lease,, but not with YOU>>> with the Landlord... Have you checked with the Landlord?? Is that person Ok with a another person living in the unit??? IF you are gonna go elsewhere,, and Sub Let to another.. i think you still need to be sure it's OK... and then yes. exchange signatures,,, on either a Form lease,, or else a printed version of whatever verbal agreement you have come to... be specific, and don't hesitate to be complete... mention, rent amounts,, due dates,, dos and don'ts of tenancy.. pet issues, parking issues... and be more detailed If you are NOT gonna live there yourself.. For SURE take some " before" pictures of walls floors, doors etc... depending on if you Know the new person or not,,, i say, both need to sign a paper which states the "before" condition of the place... (in anticipation of whatever the AFTER condition might look like.....) ... it would be best if the newbie, is asked to pay the landlord directly,,, relieving You of Having to take THAT persons' money ( which may or may NOt always be there) and then forwarding it on to the landlord... good luck...p s what is BAH..??? jimmy
  14. it's well LATE into this thread... but I am mad at the Original Poster... Not because he raises a particularly irritating topic again Not because he supports BAD business tactics and was apparently absent During Ethics Class... Not because he defends the indefensible.... BUT for these two reasons.. One.. I AM a small business owner.. and I bend over backwards to be ethical, honest, and appreciative of my Clientele. and this clown comes along and says.. "it's business, all bets are off, anything goes".. what a stupid concept... Have you EVER run a SUCCESSFUL businesss.. or is your Gig,,, Just a lot of talk, and misquided justification..... Two.... You have the balls..... to create a user name of skypapa.........??? How dare you???..... We have a higly respected, ethical, honest and thoughtful member here,,,,,,,Maybe you've heard of her.. skymama......... So where do YOU come off??? to choose a name like skypapa??? i'm not kiddin.... YOU MUST be affiliated with skyride,, and have now shown evidence of poor ethics, and common sense.... since you ripped off one of our Moderators Oh yeah..... that falls right in step with your concept that all is fair in business.. I hate ripoff artists... Liars,,, and those who fall in with deceptive business operators....especialy when the motive is NOT to "help out the sport", but to Make someone else's hard earned money,,, YOURS>>>>> You seem like one of those to me.. though to call you one, would, be a breach of the forums rules..... sooooo of course.. I'm just insinuating....... fill out your profile,, and tell us.. Who you really are... and under what other usernames you have posted here in the past... Troll,,, thy name is skypapa.... signed jmy edited to correct grammar...
  15. wow... a bit like " ebay meets uTube " . wouldn't it be cool if some benevolent person, in a position to do so, bought the bike , for 20 or 25 grand..... ..I don't use ebay at all . are 'video ads' technically possible now on that site??? good luck to the poor guy... doing the selling. j
  16. i always thought it's best to keep the "carry-alongs" to a minimum.. I never wear a watch,,, and always empty my pockets... Except for a silver Dollar... or two which i always keep in a pocket, for good luck...
  17. made my thousandth jump in sept of 1979 just about seven years after my first SL.. always jumped regularly, and frequently... However I only had an A license at the time... after kids arrived in '83 and '85, i slowed down some... it took 14 More years to get to D W.. in the mid to late 80's i went ahead and earned my B C and D Lic... and then applied for GW. i'm # 3176... I sometimes wonder what my # would be if It was awarded in sept of '79... jimmy tavino ( 36 hr FF award soon to arrive...)
  18. i think that indiginous native americans,,, Both North ANd South Americans. might have had it ok... these were sophisticated cultures, which existed on this side of the world for thousands of years. before the land was "discovered" by europeans... As long as there were plenty of resources,,, clean water, game, fish and fowl,,,,I believe the people did ok.. Remember,, If the land was NOT bountiful the tribes moved on.....They were established into villages and cities, and judging by the Mayan, Incan, Aztec, Pueblo, Plains Indians, and the tribes of the eastern seaboard....they had extensive social and cultural ties... as long as territory was available so there was litlle geographic overlapping, I believe these people knew ( learned ) how to best exploit the rich natural resources around them.... Upon learning of agriculture and livestock domestication, hunters and gatherers became farmers and herders... Some of these cultures also had extensive religious components... Gods..... based on nature and maybe even on extraTerrestrials, are strong in their artifacts... A naive' and technologically deficient culture would surely rate an Extra terrestrial as a God....especially a benevolant, helpful, teaching, E T ... Clean water game, food.... tried and tested construction techniques to shelter from the winters, group cooperation for the survival of all, safe and proper utilization of fire, for cooking, for warmth, for protection against predators,, once they had it figured out, I feel they thrived,, until the time of illness, hatred, ignorance, and disrespect from the Conquistadores... overwhelmed then... sad... to think of it now, But those who preceeded the natives who had to face the white man,,, by even just 100 years,,, may have had it OK..... in a rustic, earthy way... jt B of Science Anthropology earned 1975.
  19. if we had established a trading arrangement, if we shared common friends among Other nearby tribes,.. ( while based in a village, albeit a sometimes, mobile village,,,these people traveled out, to encounter others),,, if there was game and resources aplenty sure I 'd share... wouldn't you??? .. If nothing else to establish some Positive credit,,, with those whom you've helped.... a sort of Pay NOW,,, but reap the reward later,,, ( maybe when your own people are starving..) if game and resources are Not plentiful,,, people move on... Prior to today... ( i e 1000 years ago.) urban sprawl had not challenged mother nature.....at least not on the American Continents... Europe and Asia are another story... But i think there was plenty of clean water,,, fish...fowls, mammals to hunt, nutritious grasses grains, and vegetables,,, so sure i'd share... I might share food,, or else the knowledge and weaponry need to catch the food,,, or share " know how",,,,regarding crops, and agriculture,,, so my neighbors could care for themselves and not NEED our help but this could all be an idealistic way of looking at the subject,,, and sadly mankind seems more prone to battling squabbling, and outright warring... how nice that we can exchange different points of view,, in a civil way. thanks. for the back and forth.. jimmy out................
  20. So previous to 30 years ago those same people lived rich wealthy lives?? I don't get it..? When in history have the impoverished societies flourished? Never said they were living good lives, many cultures have always lived poverty level lives...but had done it happily ,,, sometimes, not knowing anything else...... it's called subsistance living and it continues even til today, in many parts of the world.....and that's what bugs me.. In the 21st century.. aren't we learning anything?? heck we can't even rid ourselves of poverty and misery in some of the wealthiest and prosperous cities on the planet... The leaders of the so called world powers should be more Progressive, and Co Operative, toward relieving such misery....but it continues..due to population increases in places where food and even water are scarce. Not an easy thing to fix.. Well in many past cultures each of those values has been better...From the time of Jesus Christ, and carrying well into the first millenium, The North and South American Natives,,,, were doing just fine thank you... They had agriculture, abundant game, domestication of livestock, established cities.... some degree of social harmony.. and as long as territories didn't overlap,,,peace... This continued up until the year 1,500AD or so when Eurpoeans began arriving in boats.. then it all started to go bad.... Eygpt and many areas around the Med. Sea, were well advanced and those people traveled extensively for trade... circa 800 AD to 1500 AD... The cultures of Greece and Rome, had Human rights, trade and development, to a great degree as did many African, Asian, and Australian societies... so there are a couple of dates and places. of course it depends on our definiton of "Better".. I will grant you that world wide trade is vastly different because of high speed fiber optic transfer of information...and trade goes on at an amazing pace... not sure if anonymous internet trade is as effective and meaningful as the old time approach of face to face,, product for payment,, personal way that it's been done on this Planet for over a million years.... Human rights have a long way to go... and work best in times of peace... man however is too fast to war.. not just here,, but all over the world.. we're entering the next millenium... World leaders, the esteemed MR Bush 1 and the esteemed Mr Bush 2 included, have had other priorities,, these past 30 years or so......world wide,, many others leaders included...I don't understand the emergence and proliferation of Religious Fanatics but the world sure is having a hard time containing them ...and somewhere in my mind...justified or not,,,,i'm mad at GHWB and his son..... I thought the space race would kick this planet into a new way of thinking....an approach... " Hey we may not be alone here,, and so let's begin thinking like allies and quardians of this planet and it's resources, and work to share resources instead of hoard them.. sadly that's very slow to happen... my graditude to the mods,,, since yes this may be the stuff of S C... .... Just saw in the newspaper the Positive story about The 6th Parachute Descent by GHWB... good press... jmy .
  21. ...well the 1000/ month isn't ALL interest?? is it? i'm sure in many locations, mortgage amounts are huge..and interest and taxes are a big percentage,, especially early in the amortization... lucky for us, we are happy in a place with relatively low house costs..and a decent down payment allowed for a smaller amount borrowed,,, ( I never got it why people would borrow as MUCH as they could???... i dunno... ) NYC on the other hand takes a whole other level of income generation, adherance to 'knocking down that loan' and good timing regarding property value improvement.. To own a house with the idea that it will be a work in progress, and that you plan to sell the finished work,,, within a few years,,, is a great way to grow your worth...IF you and others around you, can be OK with a construction site .. for a home.... and if you are very very capable in many of the trades needed to maintain and improve properties.. do that 2 or 3 times, and suddenly... you can buy what you want, and settle in for a decade or two... NOW the question comes up.... is it prudent to tap the solid equity which your debt free home offers??? i guess it depends on whether pricing trends are climbing or declining. So again location matters. as for KIDS,
  22. wow... didn't mean to be hateful... my post was the result of observations,,, tinged with frustration,,,, The world is a mess..... oil dominates so many things.... the past 30 years or so, have been tough,,, and sadly have been MISERABLE for most people who live in impovershied countries all around this planet... I have thought for some time,,, about the "change in history" which WOULD have occurred,,, had Sr. not been saved at the time of his bail out...back in "the war to end all wars" this post offered me the chance to pose that premise... I should not have implied that i would FAVOR such an outcome..... for ANy loss of life is unacceptable.. and in the course of war, it is wasteful... Co operative behavior on Everyone's part could have resulted in a far far better world than the one which we face today...... This family was and is in a crucial position to influence the tempo of the entire world, for better or worse... some say they succeeded, other disagree... I AM a tolerant man, and wish no harm on others. please correct the points which i made and which you have deemed inaccurate cordially j t
  23. hahahaha well i checked back here,,, just to make sure we WERE Talking about BUSH the First... and upon re reading the original post now see that I forgot the part about " Politics Aside !!!" soooo very sorry for that... Sure as to ANYone willing to do what it takes to make an AFF skydive, OR a Static Line jump, OR maybe even a tandem.... Well Done!!! and I welcome you to the Brotherhood/Sisterhood Face it, there must be thousands of people near and far, who are at points in their lives , where they need to convince themselves of their capabilities, face up to a fear, try 'something risky",
  24. george who??? G Herbert Walker Bush ? hmmmmm Oil man.. former CIA director,, ( back it the day when WE were GOOD and EVERYBODY else was BAD.....) ( and back in the day when COVERT was COMMON , even encouraged...... ) Behind the scenes Guy in the Reagan admin... During the days when WE were arming many of the Bad guys... Had his eyes set on the Oil rich parts of this planet decades ago.... allowed,,, and maybe even encouraged, Saddam Hussien to push into Kuwait,,,, and then Unleashed.. DESERT STORM.... on him.... BUT Failed to rid the world of the man.... Enabled his least capable son, for George W's whole life.... and in return the son and ex GHW Bush Pal ,, dick (and that's not just a name it's a personality description ) Cheney ... just couldn't wait to run into Iraq and "kick some Ass".... as vengeance for past accomplishments which the Old man, had left undone.. and to settle some score, and to improve the appearance of a recalcitrant Son in the eyes of his father... ) A noble thing i suppose,, but not when it requires the lives of thousands and thousands of "regular" people i.e. soldiers AND foreign civilians..be snuffed out!! That my friends is the behavior of a tyrant... hmmm so he skydived... big deal.... fact is .... if the cheapo, with which he bailed out of his disintegrating aircraft, had NOT been so reliable..... ( damn ) he would have been merely another grim statistic of war.... and there would NEVER have been MUCH of the chaos in this world today,,, and for sure there would never have been good ole boy G W ..... sorry for the hijack..... I do have respect for any octagenarion who would head to a DZ to make a skydive,, and PAY for it himself or herself...
