  1. whatever one can get me and a dozen or so, of my friends,,, to 14 grand, safely and quickly. A big door and nice handles,, would be allright too....
  2. "in my college days". ..It couldn't have have been the "brainiacs " who went to YOUR college?? could it???
  3. excellent, as always billvon... current equipment and techniques are very safe... but complex... Fifteen years ago we had an ice storm which took down fully 40 % of the trees and about 90 % of our areas' electric wires... Mostly pole mounted and above ground... We did have underground natural gas service for the furnace but electric was out for 14 days..... and the thermostat blower etc. all ran off 110... So I went to the furnace traced the wire to the panel box....Opened the box and identified the breaker,, by VISUALLY following my wire to it... as a second assurance it was marked as the furnace...Shut off the breaker, popped it off the hot bar, disconnected the black wire...disconnected the white wire and the ground wire from the ground strip, loosened the romex connector and gently drew that wire out of the panel box... Then simply wired a three prong 3 wire male plug,, onto the romex... If you can spare an old wire or cord that has a grounded plug, cut it to a workable length and strip the 3 wires.. Then I wire nutted black to black white to white and ground to green... Tape them each and then together,,, with black electricians tape,, taking care not to loosen any wire nuts.. Now it's as though your furnace, or your trailer, or even outdoor buildings each have a seperate plug.. to "go get power".... then just plug 'em in.. taking care not to overload your generator... Whatever you set up with direct plug-in capability,,, is totally OFF your panel box and general household system...... That is the ONLY way this idea is sensible..... If power is suddenly restored your system is fully intact...and unaffected... You're still on generator for those items,,, but the generator's NOT connected to your entire panel box... Capice'??? So Afterwards,,,,,, a careful re attachment of the one or two ( or three) circuits which you removed , is needed... Have a GOOD screwdriver or TWO handy.. ( the ground bar takes a very strong small tipped straight head screw driver) . Remove the cover. Fully loosen the clamp on romex connector where wire enters the panel box , pass the wires into the box and draw them well forward from the centrally mounted Hot bar...till the wire is seated... Then it's blk to the breaker, which should still be switched OFF. white and ground to the ground strip... tighten firmly. then look at the breaker to see where any clips might be, and figure out how to position , align and snap the breaker in,, switch it on... good luck disclaimer,,,, ( no Kiddin' ) i had success with the above mentioned response to an ice storm... I chose to post it in answer to the O P 's question...with respect to a prior post. which is the textbook way to do it... The approach i mention is a " freestyling" sort of thing, however,, and I Only justified doing it myself!!!! , because it was "an Emergency"
  4. well NOW I gotta break out my "Janes Aircraft Recognition Guide "
  5. .... Talk to your instructors , about how to AVOID a flat spin in the first place..... and how to stop one,,, should you encounter it.....
  6. excellent thanx laszlo just got all the details for creating a "home made" connector... from newshooter12..... which accepts the conceptus switch... (we both use Nikon D70S ) However upon reading this post... I will consider the ones which you have shown... sending a PM to you, shortly. jimmy
  7. A formation of Fokkers? Popsjumper........... shouldn't that be a "Flock of Fokkers???" thanks to all for details about N #'s jt
  8. no kidding??? hmmm... any more specifics jim??? change of ownership?? change of use???..Just for the hell of it??? how complicated ?? and how much paperwork?? Do Aircraft have Titles?????.. so much to learn..... (when one starts out, so stupid!!!!
  9. i'm alsways up for some silliness and holiday spirit, but... to get back on track... i'd guess the reason "for selling them" is because they will likely go for 2 to 3 times what the current owner paid for them,,,,,IF they were bought a while ago..... I'm happy for any aircraft owner who can reap such returns,,, though it REALLY hurts,, if the plane leaves the jumping industry..... Very pricey in any context and i trust Zing is well tuned in , to the current market... I see they are advertsied out of Ontario Canada... any explanations WHY??? Also No visible N #'s on any of them.... ??? are they in the course, of repaint???? I always thought that an aircraft's N # is designated at manufacturing and remains with it forever..... Right??? I also think the # needs to be visible on the plane if it is actively flying..... Can N #'s be changed??? or transferred??? In the case of a Mix and Match Rebuild...Does the N # stay with the airframe??? or the rudder.. or the wings, or the engines??? Is there a size requirement for the Number?? as it is marked on the fuselage??? or can it be "small"...How many places on a plane must that Number be made visible.... not a pilot. so not sure... I'm asking Santa Claus for One Million Two Hundred Fifty Thousand.........this year... ... then I'll Make 'em a $$Cash$$ offer,,, they can't refuse..... ...It's on my wish list...... But I'm NOT holding my breath,, that I'll get it !!! answers please... jmy A 3914 4 stack 930
  10. yes,,, but if the items left to be sold off, are from good quality manufacturers,,, AND if a "distressed sale" price can be had>>>> Isn't this Maybe ??? a good buying opportunity??? I wonder if after the sale warranty coverage etc will be honored???.. I've been watching the emergence of an HP photo printer which will allow you to burn photo cds direct from card slots,,, in addition to making photos It's model HP C8180 and is advertised to have "LightScribe CD/DVD burner" 359 dollars at Office max... Was just looking through the sunday newspaper circulars,,, including CompUSA's ... no mention made YET.... about any clearance sales.. Thanks for the 'heads-up" DSE.. j t .
  11. or a batch of beeches a Pile of Porters a couple of caravans a set of skyvans a half of a caribou and Twelve Twin BOs.....
  12. exactly i've had a theory now for quite a while, which is......... "statistically speaking,, someone ELSE has to f@%k up, in order for me and you to stay safe"....... which basically means that injuries, and "last jumps" are inevitable...... and of course "saddening AND maddening", but if it's happening to others, it ain't happening to me...or to my friends... when certain folks ramp UP the likelihood of that sort stuff happening to THEM,,, then statistically speaking it saves others from such fate... not sure if it applies here,,, since i think the O P is yanking our collective chain... ANYone with 145 jumps should have learned a long time ago, that wing loading, as quoted here... 2.45... is waaaaaay out of line... Hell I know very very few CAPABLE canopy pilots who would press to such numbers... so the simple answer to the O P is hell NO!!!!! you can't jump that canopy... Why is common sense, so UN common?? jmy

    Hawk!

    real Nice pictures.......
  14. I've been "Jimmy" since the day i was born... that was at a hospital in Mount Kisco NY USA.. (45 miles north of NYC ) the summer of 1953 Lived in Brewster NY for 19 years..( My Folks and a few siblings are still there,,, and Happy.....M & D in the same brick house which My Father built, in 1951 , and where they have lived, Happily , since their return from the honeymoon, 56 years ago ) Went to college near Rochester NY and blasted out a BS in Anthropology between '71 and '75 also graduated with about 325 skydives...
  15. ...purely UNintentional..... i assure you... but yes,.,,, I guess that is what he says... isn't it??? Yuuucccchhhhh.. he irritates the heck outta me.. I meant OUT as In "over and Out".. you know ,, pilot lingo. ..... and to let FMonk know I was 'done' with our little communique'..... j t
  16. ......way off base again..... since i'm not Jerry ANYbody.......... and i never said 'look after yourselves, and each other'..... .....and i sugar coat NOTHING!!!... .. i simply speak in a straight forward and respectful way to everyone whom i encounter, .....even you... you jumped all over a person ( Ellen) who seems to me, to be a very dear and wonderful part of a somewhat "Otherwise" ,, entertainment industry.... and so it is no surprise that she has fans here... if You're not one of them,,,, that's cool... but your post was inciting, and mean to Many people, and i and others had to respond... jimmy......out.
  17. this thread is about the Presidents' daughter, and a spontaneous bit of silliness on the part of Ellen D-G or her staff...... and NOT about ANYone's sexual preferences Do you ever SEEE her show???? or are you so Phobic that you dismiss her entirely??? Or are you just amusing yourself, But Not US, with your narrow minded words???? Her show is fun, and genuine, and entertaining... I have always liked her , from her days as a bright and super capable Stand Up Comedienne I admired the guts and back bone it took for her to "come out" as she did... and if anything that Increased my admiration of her... People are people, and those who are true to themselves and others, merit respect.....not distain, if their ways are in disagreement to Yours... Butch????? hell NO... she is a sweet and decent woman....and did I mention Thoughtful, considerate and generous????. if your post is serious, fMonk,,, then I'd suggest you grab a dictionary and look up those 3 words which i have used in the previous sentence.....and see if you can ,,,, maybe,,,, apply them to your own way of thinking... work for Peace,,,,,, Peacefully ( edited for spelling mistakes,,,,, twice )
  18. UNLESS you're in college..... roommates can be more hassles than they are worth..... Maybe now you can see the Value of having a place of your own... and please don't say,,,,"well I can't afford a place without others to share the rent...." sure you can... get a smaller place, if necessary.... Don't choose "house mates" based on who has the biggest Flat screen. or other "amenities".
  19. i have been successful in NOT getting tooooo carried away by ANY pro sports team... Never bet on games.. and have NO "favorites"... Mostly I watch to see "good plays" and athletic moves,,, regardless of which team makes them... I don't care much, for B Belicheck ( sp ) , but respect Tom Bradys abilities. I would have preferred to see Baltimore win... and aside from self destructing in the final minutes of the game, they should have won... Highly paid pro athletes, who can't stay under control, irritate the hell outta me... Bad enough to give up a TD at that point in the game,, But when the defender for the ravens made a personal foul,,, and THEN picked up the referee's flag and "threw it into the stands" right AFTER the penalty was called on him.. well THAT made me sick... end result... the Pats. kick off to the ravens,,, from the RAVENS 35 yard line... and the kicker booms the football farther into the stands, than the yellow flag was thrown!!! so now Baltimore starts on it's own 20... with what ??? 44 seconds to play...?? A couple of plays, and they are near mid field... The QB chucks up a Hail Mary,, which is caught AT the patriots 2 yard line.... Game over... NOW>>>>>> what if it had been a normal kick off?? and the ravens had returned to to ONLY their own 25??? well then,,, the EXACT same subsequent plays,, wouldda resulted in the long pass being INSIDE the endzone by 3 yards,,, instead of Outside it, by 2 ..... like i said, it TRULY,,, does not matter to ME.... BUt that bonehead personal foul and following unsportsman like foul.... just must have Killed those poor hometown fans..... none the less,,, pretty exciting finish..... I realized many many years ago, that saturdays and sundays are for Skydiving anyway, and NOT football........ signed,,,, former ( in another life ) Linebacker, Jimmy
  20. My bad/// f farah.. The cams which my friend told me about were HC42 models...( he and his wife, both jumped them) not the 48... sorry for the false alarm... man these models and the #'s change soooo frequently..... jmy
  21. brilliant....??? not me... BUT.... brilliant IS what you and others can find , here in the forums,,,, from others, Far Far more capable than me... you see the technology races on, and frankly, i feel like i'm being "left in the dust".. Fortunately for you AND me, many here are very very knowledgeable about the fine details of camera work AND editing, and have addressed lots of tech. topics in a friendly and cooperative way...
  22. sony's hc 38 and 48 models, should not be confused with the HC 1 Hc 3 Hc 5 or Hc 7 while they are all min-dv tape cameras.. the 38 and 48 are not high def.... as is the case with the hc3 hc 5 etc.... Still the ones you're looking at are reasonable in cost...... I do know some fun jumpers who use them and i recall they did have some issues with 'durability'..... at 300 to 500 bucks,,, they almost fall into the category of "disposable"..... though I suppose a maintenance plan could be useful... search for sony hc 38 or hc48 and see what's been discussed here in the past... jaytee A 3914 D 12122 USPA # 9452
  23. "what else do I need to be careful of...??" firstly.. be careful of taking the approach.... "well I've done this before, and so i can easily do it again".. we're not riding a bicycle here skylark CURRENCY is certainly at the forefront,,, before adding a camera.... Despite what others may have posted,, ( Even Though they are Correct ),,, I'm not gonna blast you.... about searching for your answers.... THAT is more for Real specific questions, and yours is a "general" type of inquiry... Only No deal..... right Now as far as adding a camera.... First you need to re -aquaint yourself with the sky..... and with your past jump history,, that should not be tooooo much of an issue... only then, might you START to think about a camera... or two..... Fifty to a Hundred jumps More,,,,, sounds about right..... Some things have changed in the last 3 years..... helmets and camera boxes have come along, so that riser snags are less frequent.... though you can still expect a slap or two, on any sidemount... I never have jumped one, and have been comfortable for the last 12 years, with a top mount arrangement.....AND even those can take a hit or two from opening... I've had a lens or two get knocked off and lost the viewfinder from a VX 1000... thanks to that... For sure... you need to plan to spend some $$$$$. if you wanna get into camera flying,, even if it IS only for creating a personal video log, of some of your jumps.. The $$$$ will be first invested to get current and comfortable,,, and then you'll need to explore the multitude of cameras AND helmets... Some cameras can be side mount OR top mounted, Others can only be top mounted.. ( it's a size issue )... so get out to your DZ of choice,,, be pleasant, get current, and keep your eyes and ears open as you SEE and HEAR what's going on in the way of skydiving camera "technology".... like all disciplines of our sport.. there are constant changes and "upgrades".... speak with your local camera folks and then proceed accordingly... Oh and SURE>>>>>>> you can always come back here and ask questions.... While some here are understandably impatient , and maybe even resistant to what they see as laziness....others could be more willing to address your concerns... Now, go get your reserve repacked, and have at IT!!!!! skydive softly, skydive often, skydive with friends jmy
  24. didn't open it..... learned a while ago to 'consider the source' hahaha. i have more fun reading the other posts from those who DID open it...and wished they didn't.. what is it.?. hillary....... with some sort of 'manhood' ????....or am I waaaay wrong...? that would be...
