I saw a Russian exile explaining why Putin still goes through the play acting of holding elections. If you’re a pure dictator, the resistance can coalesce around the hope of democracy. If you hold elections that everyone knows are rigged, you teach the people that democracy can’t save them. This is why the Republicans have never shut up about election security for the past ten years. A big part of it is appeasing the giant orange man-baby’s ego, but a bigger part of it is conditioning enough people to believe that there is no real democracy. Then when they’re finally in a position to really, truly, blatantly steal an election enough people will collectively shrug and say ‘well that’s what they were already doing anyway’.

Pretty much guaranteed at this point this is all leading to a huge ICE and military deployment to police polling stations in ‘problem’ districts at the midterms.

Yes indeed. It’s just ironic that Winsor so desperately wants to come across as an intellectual yet has the least interest in actually understanding anything of any regular contributor to this forum. Like his take on German politics is as if he walked into an upmarket neo-Nazi meeting (you know like the ones Peter Thiel goes too) and blindly believed the first thing someone told him about how Hitler came to power. Even Rich Ravizza is more capable of saying something original and unexpected than Winsor the MAGA parrot.

It is indeed INSANE to suggest that any sport in which being a 6’10” man is an advantage has been made to implement quotas for 4’10” women because of woke. Why do you believe insane things? And yet, as with the deficit he is exploding, Trump is responsible for the biggest rollout of forced DEI programs in the history of the US government. Except he wants to force universities to hire quotas of white republicans, which you’re obviously fine with. It’s only the DEI which means you might have to interact with more black people that’s a problem. I fail to see how Musk funnelling hundreds of billions of dollars of government contracts into his own companies despite offering significantly less efficient solutions than the competition is going to solve the deficit. It’s amazing how willing you are to swallow anything your heroes tell you without applying an ounce of critical thinking.

Again, with the benefit of hindsight, having seen what happened, you still believe there is a level of economic distress that would justify electing Hitler in response. Again it’s remarkable how easy it is for people to manipulate you with an oversimplified sound bite or two. Like a sugar rush for the brain. I don’t know why you choose to outsource your critical thinking to the partisan outlets that feed you your talking points but it’s pretty weird. Seems like you would have the ability to learn things about how history, society and politics really work if you could only be bothered to look.

You might consider what it says about you, that hearing you contend that Hitler was the best available candidate to lead Germany in the 1930s is not in the least bit surprising. The fact that you think you can defend your choice to vote for Trump by comparing yourself to the Germans who voted for Hitler though… well you really should start to wonder if you’re as clever as you think you are.

Of course - Putin is everything Trump wants to be in life. He's richer, more powerful, better at embezzling and wrote the book on transforming a democracy(ish) into a one-man authoritarian state. Trump meeting Putin is like a teenage girl meeting Taylor Swift.

As Kallend points out, Trump has already demonstrated that he won't police DC. He pardoned the entirety of the last set of thugs who used violence to carve out a place to "protest," or in other words beat up cops, invade the government and steal free elections. So.. where are you going with that?
