  1. Yep - but what's the other movie?
  2. Two movies, one quote: 'There is no spoon.' The first movie everybody knows, but what's the second?
  3. Gap in the south of France is beautiful, especially early in the season when there's still lots of snow on the mountains. It's in a valley, at the foot of the alps. 3D scenery in freefall is pretty freaky until you get used to it.
  4. Rhyming's annoying when it sounds forced. Song lyrics are annoying when they trot out the same old nonsense just because they have to rhyme (baby, crazy, lady). Actually that scores double annoyance points because they're not even full rhymes. Oh, and when people use stupid syntax for the sake of a rhyme: 'Out she walked into the snow, towards the forest she did go'. Huh? Maybe we should compile a list of songs for Kelly that have no rhymes. REM's Losing My Religion comes to mind...
  5. Got to love the marketing speak on that page. All these years I've been thinking I was just having a drink. Turns out I have actually been experiencing a 'beverage occasion'.
  6. Up only. My stair carpet doesn't fit too well, so running down isn't such a good idea.

    Brain Twister

Each word can be remade by moving the first letter to the end and then reversing the whole thing.
  8. My first thought was that you want a rhyming dictionary, but then I found something better... http://www.onelook.com/?loc=rz4&w=*ate&scwo=1&sswo=1 Hundreds of words ending in 'ate'! Of course there'd be a few others that rhyme with 'eight', but if you can't find what you need in here I'd be pretty amazed...
  9. Nobody can do that. A hackey sack 'trick' to me is making contact more than three times in a row.
  10. I could spend all day setting up little stacks of coins just to watch my cat reach out a paw and knock them over. She finds this irresistible and it really makes me laugh. And when she was a kitten she used to retrieve rubber bands that I'd flick across the room and bring them back, just like a dog. She's also addicted to being chased - she'll sit halfway up the stairs, or outside the bathroom door, and won't stop miaowing until you give up and come towards her - then she dashes off. Who knows what goes on in their heads, but it sure is funny.
  11. Well done for getting involved and making a difference. Regarding the onlookers, I really think that most people are basically good-hearted and would like to have been able to do what you did - but most people don't cope well in a crisis.
  12. He, and they, have more imitators than ever now that 80s guitar pop is back in fashion. Heard some of the stuff by The Dears? They could be a Smiths tribute band on some of their stuff. And they're not even British!
  13. I'm a Cubase user (SX3), and I love it, in spite of a few niggles. Will set you back several hundred, though. Don't really have any exposure to the other tools - what you need is advice from someone who's used a few different ones. I have heard good things about GarageBand, if you're after something simpler and more affordable. Think it's Mac only, though...
  14. Yep. And they pack for peanuts!
  15. I've gradually made the switch from trying to stay within the drink limit to making sure I drink nothing at all when I'm driving. Just seems safer that way, both legally and ethically. Trouble is, drink is only one of the factors that affect your driving ability. Surely it's safer to drive wide awake after one beer than when you're completely sober but incredibly tired. But there's no way to legislate on the number of hours of sleep you should have had in order to drive.
  16. that's the good part of vinyl sound.... And there's that great moment of anticipation between the sound of the needle hitting the record and the start of your favourite song. But I don't have the patience for vinyl anymore. And in the age of downloading, even my CD collection is making me feel like a dinosaur...
  17. Two jumpers, reportedly. The pictures were taken by a film location manager working on the new Bond movie, apparently passing the hotel by coincidence!
  18. Also, I hear, the release date for The Omen movie remake. Although I think that might be deliberate...
  19. I was jumping at Headcorn yesterday and the smoke pall looked pretty freaky under canopy. By the afternoon there was enough of it drifting over the DZ that it was threatening our ability to spot. And that's got to be a good 70 or 80 miles from the site of the fire!
  20. I would have cut out the area of the carpet that had the wine stain, cut out an area of the exact same size and shape from beneath the sofa, and swapped the two. Works for cigarette burns - but I guess on a much smaller scale...
  21. I think that cruising speed is significantly slower than a C-130, so presumably no problem there.
  22. I'd like to love it, but I hate having it forced down my throat starting in early October. It should be illegal to put up decorations or play carols in department stores before the beginning of December.
  23. You might try speaking to Jason Bell (base428), since they've had a sprung diving board rigged up at Bridge Day for the last few years. Of course a huge steel bridge makes for a more stable fixing platform than a hot air balloon... I'd guess you'd want some kind of counterweight on the opposite side of the basket. And I'd also guess the biggest danger would be on landing the balloon, since they have a nasty habit of tipping over in higher winds.
