  1. The whole celebrity thing is a mystery to me. Sure, there are people I'd love to meet because I admire their music/ acting/ whatever. But I really don't care what they wear to go shopping.
  2. Probably exactly what they're saying while they're looking up and pointing!
  3. Um, pretty busy here in London, England!
  4. Oh, that's just sneaky! How are you supposed to spot speed traps if the deputies are in fancy dress?

    Like puzzles?

Damn sight more polished than your typical Flash game, too. I'd like to see the code for it.
  6. Looks beautiful, but I don't need one right now. I'm a great believer in letting the 'early adopters' go first whenever the next big thing comes onto the market. I think that makes me a 'laggard'. No problem with that.
  7. I was thinking more likely Farmer McNasty had set it on the fence post to use for target practice.
  8. On the other hand, you could: 1) Ask NWFlyer how far her Bonehead drifted 2) Triple the distance 3) Make that your search radius
  9. Furry hat in freefall? There's always a chance a passing falcon might have mistaken it for dinner - in which case it could be a long way from your exit point.
  10. I always pack for myself - other than my reserve - but I don't see it so much as a responsibility issue. Parachute gear is pretty reliable - generally, canopies want to open - and there's a lot more to surviving in this sport than packing your main correctly. I just like the independence that comes with being able to pack, and do it pretty quickly (and I don't like adding £5 to the cost of every skydive!). It amazes me that some experienced jumpers are lost without packers, and end up missing loads when none are available. But I'm never completely comfortable packing for other people. Even though I've done something like 1500 pack jobs without a mal, I still worry that I'll cause one for a friend!

    Rabbit Party!

If just one mummy rabbit and one daddy rabbit managed to lie low during the round-up, that's going to be a pretty short-lived solution.
  12. Ok, I'll fess up - two confessions in one: I own Drop Zone on DVD. I watched it again recently - almost the whole way through! It's both better and worse than I remembered.
  13. If you want to take your rig as carry-on, I see no reason to openly wear it. Soft bags are pretty affordable - if you don't have a purpose-built rig bag, then almost any kind of backpack will do. They also ensure that you're not going to snag your handles on anything, or attract unnecessary attention.
  14. Um. I believe the politically correct term is 'centaurs'.
  15. Memory is a strange thing. Do you think maybe you've been shown those pictures before, and what you're actually remembering is the narrative that went with them the first time around? I think sometimes we unwittingly construct memories based on things we're told we did as young children. Video is something else again. When I was growing up families didn't own video cameras like they do now, and not many would have had film cine cameras. I'd like to have seen some moving images of me as a kid.

    Irony

Yeah. It's like rai-ai-aiiiin on your wedding day.
  17. Yes, yes and yes. But the girls are supposed to be British travellers as I remember.
  18. Haven't seen Arrested Development, but I was going to say that the girls seem to make a better job of it than the guys - I'm thinking Gwyneth Paltrow, Renee Zelwegger, and those (Australian?) actresses in Wolf Creek. 'Posh English' seems to be the easiest thing to pull off. To be fair to Don Cheadle, although he is indeed the new Dick Van Dyke - he had to attempt not just English but Cockney.
  19. Sounds pretty scary. Normally you're not allowed to get off the bus until it comes to a 'stop', but in that case I think I'd want them to make an exception.
  20. Yeah, balloon jumps will do that. I only get to do them at the Eloy holiday boogie, but I always do one. Where did you jump? Got pictures?
  21. Or it might just have been the earplugs, if you're not used to wearing them. My ears react badly to being plugged - I think if you're prone to wax then they tend to compress it and clog everything up. But since it's obviously a bad idea to fly without earplugs, that doesn't help you too much.
  22. That is interesting, thanks. I'm surprised how much variety there is in the aircraft tracks. The jump plane flying at my dropzone is generally done within a box (I think it's 1.5 miles long), and we typically circle the DZ in an upward spiral - but I'm wondering now what a GPS track would actually show. Do you share your airspace with other aircraft? Is that what influences those tracks? Or is it maybe cloud avoidance? Also, what do the dots on the tracks indicate? They virtually disappear on the jump runs, so I'm guessing it's to do with changes of heading.
  23. I wouldn't fret too much. The stuff that gets by the censors for 'kids' movies these days is a lot stronger than anything that was featured in the original Die Hard.
  24. One of mine developed this trick when he was a kitten, and it's still his favourite: he gets the phone receiver cord in his mouth and then bungees off the table with it. Can't ignore that because not only is he damaging the cable, but also now the phone's off the hook. This bugs the hell out of me - which of course is the point - but I still can't help laughing because he'll only do it when I'm watching. If I'm turned away and look at him out of the corner of my eye, I can see him looking at me waiting for his opportunity.
