Have you considered buying a games console instead? Sure, you might not get the same variety or depth of games, but at least the software developers are forced to write to a fixed spec rather than forcing you to keep upgrading. I reckon that's going to be my strategy from now on.

Work out the cost of making the trip in the UK and divide it by 5.

My first ever jump was on a static line from the step of a 182. Now that is a baptism of fire. But at least once you've managed the climb-out (right hand - right foot - left hand - left foot, if I remember correctly) you're in a sweet position to do a perfect student exit.
-
Sunny, you should try jumping in the UK. We're so much smaller I sometimes feel like I recognise practically everybody in the British mag. It's more like a case of turning a page, seeing somebody unfamiliar and saying "Hey, who the hell is that?"

I agree with you, Andrew. In the original cut, I don't think you ever see Willard even smile, and though that might be a little unlikely it's an important part of his persona. In Redux you have this kind of jokey episode that just doesn't fit the feel of the movie.

Sounds like a glitch in the Matrix.

Reckon I'm up for a couple.

There's one good thing to come out of all this, Adam - since you can't do DIY tonight having DYI (Done yourself in), it means Vicki can come drinking.

Well, it's a comfort to know that if I die at home alone at least I won't have forgotten to feed the cats

That is great. Looks like a lot of work!

I'm hoping to be there. What would be better about Camden? Some of us live sarf of the river, you know!
-
I like them both, but I admire cats for their independence. I like the fact that an animal that could survive quite well without me (even if that would mean moving in with someone else!) chooses to be my companion.

If you're backing up stuff you already own, couldn't you just scan the original packaging?

Wow! Reassuring to see that those things actually do float, and not just in the diagrams on the safety cards. Although I guess those are better conditions than most in which to put an airliner down in water. Don't suppose you have a picture of the escape slides detached to form life rafts? That one always looks a bit far-fetched to me.

One thing to do before you die - live!

Haven't seen The Village yet, and I'm not sure I want to. I think each of Shyamalan's movies has been a bit less enjoyable than the last, although he's still miles ahead of most of the hacks out there. But yeah, the inevitable twist - fun for the first couple of films - is starting to wear thin. I reckon the surprise ending for the next film should be that there isn't one. Also for me a lot of it's down to the casting - Bruce Willis and Sam Jackson are always watchable, but I'm not a fan of Mel Gibson and I'm pretty indifferent to Joaquim Phoenix. I was amazed by Toni Colette in The Sixth Sense, though - did anybody else fail to recognise her as the same actress who starred in Muriel's wedding?

Somebody at Eloy told me (in reference to my purple gear) that purple seems to be a Brit thing. But didn't tell me it was a bad thing...

1. Cloudy days. 2. Wind holds. 3. Slow planes. 4. Zoo loads. Huh? Oh, sorry. Wrong thread.

Yep, I was wondering at Christmas whether that might cause a problem for Skydive AZ. Sounds like they'd better make friends with the new residents before they become enemies. Wonder whether they could offer 5,000 free tandems?
-
No doubt not quite as exciting as the Bell at Rantoul, but I jumped the Alouette too (at Eloy) and it was more intense than the other two I've tried (Big Sikorsky at Eloy a few years back - can't remember the model - and a Twin Squirrel in the UK). If you're sitting at the outsides of the bench in the Alouette - and in this case I use the word 'in' loosely

Done Bridge Day a couple of times, and for me it's a question of whether I ever progress to what I think of as the next level - i.e. a more dangerous object / maybe less daylight / no ambulance crews standing by etc. Although I've taken BD very seriously, I doubt there's a safer BASE jump I could make anywhere else. So it feels like a major step to move on. Anybody else been to Bridge Day and having the same thought?

Ooh! Ooh! Or hooked up to a switch, and partially inflatable as insurance against sinking out on a skydive...

Better still, what if clouds were transparent?

Sounds sticky. It'd take all day to walk back to the packing shed...

What if parachute landing areas were made of acres of soft foam rubber? People would find a new way to hurt themselves, I guess...
