  1. Roger is slated to start game 5 (if necessary). Blues, Dave huh, when did that happen? ESPN last night said he was done for the series. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  2. You do know that is where the WGN call letters come from, right? With Tribune owning so much of the media in this town, and having a superstation broadcast across the country....it was only by force feeding Cubs Games to the nation that they became so popular. Meanwhile the Sox were on crappy UHF channels like 32 and 44 at the same time.....or moved to cable before anyone in the city had cable. And neither of the Mayor Daley's seemed to be able to make this into a Sox town - air raid sirens and all. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 3. Just saw it last night...what a damn good movie _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  4. Then a stupid roof shouldn't matter that much. The pitcher you are starting tonight worries me... alot. You should be more worried about the strength of the rest of your starters now that Roger is out. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 5. Heh...now you know what its been like in this town my entire life. Sox in first place all season and guess who is on the back page every damn day while they lose....yup, the Cubs. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 6. I'm a Cubs fan...don't give me crap about being labeled the underdogs. once again...I think your perception is skewed about the national media. hehe...underdogs in Chicago? Try being a Sox fan in this town...esp when I lived on the N Side for a few years _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 7. ....yea? Like I don't know what the Sox have and haven't done in the past? I've suffered as a fan for 32 years and have been going to games since 1982. I'm not on the bandwagon thinking that Resinsdorf is the greatest owner because I know what he has done over the years....and was responsible for the last time the Sox had the best chance of winning in '94....he was a huge part of the lockout. I'll take our current 2-0 lead over having more postseason wins since your team was founded. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 8. THey told them to open the roof. Hot damn, is that ever a bad thing. Baseball played outside? How untraditional. Just plain shocking. Scandal. Cancel the series. I can't believe the horror of this. And I will be the true baseball fan and say good luck to the Stros....I hope they play their best tonight. I love a good game. Cheating? Sorry, hasn't happened. But, enjoy that and take comfort in that if it will help you swallow two loses and two terrible pitches. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 9. Did you miss all the Cubs and Red Sox "curse" stuff from the last couple of years? Stros fans are mad because of a strange policy shift by MLB, wheras the Cubs and Sox fans spent decades crying over a "supernatural curse" when in reality they just plian sucked for 50 years. Which is what makes the Cubs and the BoSox and all that junk so annoying. It's been more about poor ownership, bad luck and terrible playing. Most of that is there to pull in the non-baseball fans, to give it a sense of myth and blah blah blah. People gravitate to drama like that, much like whuffos ask "what if your chute doesn't open." I have a t-shirt: No talk about curses or goats. Just Win. Read every post I've ever made about the White Sox. The reason I am proud to be a life long fan is that I go for the baseball, the game, the fundamentals and none of that other yuppie junk. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 10. The Astros are down 2-0 and have other problems to worry about than a few decibles of crowd noise. They are a small ball team and will lose focus because of stupid issues like this. Scrappy ball takes 100% focus since every pitch counts. The Sox have been honest all series. They got a lucky call with Dye and then he HONESTLY admitted after the game it hit the bat. We also had some bad calls against us. Instead of focusing on that or other small annoying issues they go back out and play ball.....and even capitalize on the bad calls since Houston seems to lose focus at that point. Two bad pitches off two of their top pitchers had nothing to do with honesty, cheating, weather, noise, etc. This roof thing is idiocy at its best. This isn't about baseball and it has nothing to do with the game in the long run. My guess is the houston fans will still have their lungs and the noise will still be there. It is still Minutemaid Park, and it is still home. The advantage is there. MLB steps in all the time on a variety of issues, and it has done it with Toronto and Milwaukee in the past. Maybe it should be, because a roof open or closed shouldn't really be that big of an issue. For a series that has been a lot of fun to watch, I think its sad that the majority of the talk has been about this. I'm certain that the annoying announcers will focus on this for at least 30 min tonight as well......instead of focusing on what this is all about: baseball. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 11. The pain in my sciatia and surrounding area hit an all time high about a year ago. I refuse to take pills to make the pain go away due to the fear of missing a sign of it getting worse and the chance of getting hooked. Stretching, chiropractor and some form of meditation is the best bet. It's hard learning to live with pain, but it's a daily reality for me and looks like that will never change. I don't like it when a good day comes along with less pain as I know that when it returns it will bring it to the front of my mind and make it harder to block out. This sort of pain can do very strange things to you - it causes headaches and even quick mood changes. You need to find a way to battle with it so it doesn't impact those around you. Just be strong, and learn from your aunt. It can be done and I know you can do it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  12. How are they changing the configuration? The stadium has a retractable roof. They decide to leave it closed it's a dome. Not like they're adding landmines to center field. I'm not whining I'm ranting because MLB has decided to step in and make a desicion the team has made all year long. They had no problem having the roof open against the Cubs at the end of the season during the wild card race. btw - why build a roof that opens if you never want to open it? My thought? Houston, learn to play. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  13. I'm not sure I understand that. When Houston came to play the Cubs this summer it was damn hot. Up until a week ago the temps had not been below 65F, and was even in the mid 80s the week before. The Sox have played in the heat all summer. FYI - It doesn't get cold until this week or so year round, thefore the weather over the weekend worked against the Sox just as much as the Astros. In fact, the Sox players all complained about it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  14. Then I suppose you have a problem that the NFL instructed the Vikings to stop pumping crowd noise back thru the speakers to make for a louder crowd during home games? Yup, they used to have these monster speakers nearly 7 feet tall on the opposite ends of the stadium and when the Vikings were on Defense they would pump up the sound to dangerous decible levels. I guess building an odd ballpark with a hill in center field, a flag pole in center field, a place where fans can snag long-balls into left field even if they can still fall into the park, a wall in left field that is a combination of wood and metal so you don't know where a typical pop-up will bounce back to as a home field advantage? Sounds to me that Houston realizes they can't win by playing so they need to use their stadium to do it for them. The Houston fans will still be there dressed in red and cheering loud. It may not hit 176db, but maybe 135-150db instead. The Astros do have a great advantage tonight - no DL and one of the best arms in baseball on the mound tonight. I'm sure 20db or so of crowd noise will really have that large of an impact. You know why MLB really made this choice? Money. A blimp shot of a roof doesn't make for a fun thing to watch. A roof over the fans heads makes for one less sponsor they see up in the air. The roof in Houston was put there due to the large amount of heat, humidity and rain you see. It wasn't there to hide away from a perfect fall night of 60-70F with light winds, and moderate humidty. edit - posted this after reading the OP, now just reading the thread and it sounds like others said the same as me. Also - the longer the World Series is on, the more they make in additional revenue from sport spnosors. They have the sponsors already lined up for their regular shows. This is all just gravy to them now after a full season. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  15. looks like everyone wasn't as lucky on damage: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1890316;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;guest=16675832 Glad to hear you guys are all ok esp after the start of Wilma at Cat 5. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 16. Perfect way to screw up this sport. You could just get fox track pitching software to make all the calls while you are at it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  17. I'm not sure if I read your post wrong - but in the locker room for the Chicago media Dye said "Yea, it hit the bat. Do I know what it hit first? No. But the replay shows it hitting the bat first. Should have been a foul ball." In fact, all the Sox players admitted to that. Still have it on Tivo. NL/DH, blah blah blah, etc. Either way the game is played I enjoy it. Just because play style and strats are different in either league doesn't make one better than the other. It does, however, seem to afford plenty of people to act as elitists when it comes to the sport. I never get into the argument over it because it's useless and most won't listen. I wouldn't care either way if the league changed the DH rule to add it to the NL or to remove it from the AL. As long as the fundamentals of the game are still there I will keep coming back. As far as Minute Maid park - why would you build a hill in center field? Texas is flat - why add that? Call me an elitist but you would think that a typical configuration would be....logical? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 18. sigh, figured someone would say that. How is a home plate ump making a call cheating? Dye admitted in the locker room that it hit the bat, FoxTV showed the play for nearly an hour straight as well. The calls have been terrible the entire post season - just ask the Cards about that from the last series. I also don't think that a bases loaded, 2 out grand slam off of one of the best relievers in baseball (Qualls) is cheating either. I also don't think a walk-off homer from possibly the best closer in baseball as cheating either. I don't think Crede putting out MVP performance at Third stopping a half dozen plays is cheating either. The Astros have a great team - that was a close game because they never gave up. The talent is there for them to turn the tables, so don't be sore....we are still very worried here in Chicago. There is a lot of baseball left to play Nonetheless....holy shit the Sox are up 2-0!!!! Finally the Sox are the favored team in this city, and you have no idea how good that feels. White Sox Baseball: Win. Or Die Trying. (oh yea, Don't stop believing....) Not a bad weekend for Chicago either - Notre Dame wins, Blackhawks win, Northwestern wins and the Bears win!! Not even the weather got to me this weekend.
  19. 2/2/2 2 Chicago White Sox Wins 2 Victory Cigars 2 much yelling my voice hurts and it will be hard to make all my calls today. Damn, what a great weekend. :) _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  20. We used to have her as a regular guest on one of the radio shows I worked on.....she is a ton of fun. 22. From what I have been told, I have a 50/50 chance of having a seat on Saturday's game. I can barely think straight knowing that!! All I have to say is this: There are some damn f*cking cool people in this world. Even if the tickets don't come in, someone has gone out of their way to try to get me tickets and I am very grateful for that. The Astros are going to make for an incredible challenge. Their three starting pitches scare the hell out of me how good they are. This is going to be a fight, and I can't wait as the entire South Side gets to gether to cheer our boys on. Just getting to the WS means more to me than any of the 6 Bulls championships or the Bears in '85. I've first and foremost been a White Sox fan, and a baseball fan, over any other sport or team. 32 years of fan suffering has finally come to an end. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 24. I'm certain I'll get skunked yet again via Ticketmaster (I had a friend talk to someone that worked there to find the best way to get tickets...calling out of state doesn't matter anymore - they have two call centers and all calls are pushed to those centers now). So...Anyone here that can help me score just ONE ticket to game one or two in Chicago? Otherwise I'll be sitting in a bar on Saturday with the rest of the real fans that can't afford a $3,000 price tag for one ticket. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 25. who are they? :P god damn I have been cheering my ass off for the last 90 minutes! I never thought I would see my team make it to the show! hell yea!!! And with one of the best pitching outings I have ever seen by four starters...... I'm not going to have a voice tomorrow....and gonna be damn tired from walking down the street at 4am when they land. Now....lets see if I can get tickets on Tuesday..... white sox in the world series....it still doesn't seem real _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
