  1. It's Hollywood. A place where the foundation is shallow, friends stab you in the back, and you create award shows just to give yourself an award. You wanted substance? If you have pay-for-tv, turn on the Sundance Channel. You can find plenty of good movies there that address social topics without the hype. Hell, even the Lifetime network adresses topics like this on their made for tv films. There is plenty of hype that has been created about Brokeback - but the same machine is generating the same line of BS about Geisha, Munich, etc. It's all the same. The topic of Brokeback is a social hotpoint right now, so it floats to the top of the psuedo-news. There are only two movies in the Oscar line up I would take any time to see: Good Night and Good Luck, and Crash. I would possibly consider Brokeback just because Ang Lee is generally a fantastic director that loves the art of filmaking. However, I lost resepect for him when he choose to lens the Hulk movie. He continues the trend from that movie to pick pretty faces that just can't act. Therefore, I'm not going to waste my time with anymore of his films. (heh - now that I think about it, I did go see Underwolrd just to see whats her name in leather....ok, don't listen to me ) _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 2. Seems to be a common thing for most that were around for it. I was in 7th grade and it happened during our period switch. Once I got into biology class I remember Mrs Newman walking in crying. She had applied to be on that space shuttle flight. Just as she was starting to tell us, they announced it on the PA. We spent the rest of the day watching it on tv. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  3. fyi - this worked for me: working shorter than longer = more productive day. We tend to work better with a deadline. Therefore, think the end of the day is 4:30p and everything needs to be done by then. Schedule short 5 minute breaks about every 90 min, take a 30 min lunch. It's incredible just how much more you get done. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  4. Watch the entire movie up to the end of the credits - the song was placed there without singing. Did you watch the extra footage on the series dvd? Joss created the song and orignally played/sang it so the professionals could see what he wanted. I caught 10 min of the show when it was on TV and hated it. Caught it one night on SciFi and gave it a second chance - loved it. Joss has a way with words - I liked what he did with the first few seasons of Buffy and Angel. I find it interesting that he took a failed movie and made it into a successful TV show, then took a failed TV show and made it into a somewhat successful movie. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 5. Just felt like showing you this: http://www.fcc.gov/911/enhanced/ There is a lot more to this topic and it was a hot debate for some time...until 9/11 happened. Then it was pushed thru rather quick. Just a tangent I wanted to clear up. Back to the drama..... _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  6. You are a lucky shit, you know that? Meanwhile, I got a note in the mail today. Seems I forgot to pay off a ticket in GA and I'm not allowed to drive in the state until I pay it off. That ticket was issued back in 2004. Thank god I have no plans to visit GA. j/k - I paid the $270 today via western union. That ticket did nothing to slow me down either Guess I never was good with authority figures. The only story close to yours was when a Trooper waved at me with his finger to slow down. It was New Years Eve and I was running late to get on the air at my old job. I'm pretty certain I was doing 90 in a 55 when I caught him out of the corner of my eye and saw him off to my right following me. I mouthed 'sorry' to him and slowed down. At least it gave me a topic to talk about on my show that night. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 9. I'll do it even more just to piss you off, hows that? Oh yea, it's illegal to talk on your handset in the car around here so everyone uses them. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Saw the show for the first time last night. Was too depressed to get up and change the channel after the Bears game Even thou I didn't know everything that was going on, I was impressed with the story nonetheless. After it was done, I set Tivo to record the entire season and borrowed Season One from my roommate. I think I got up to 6 or 7am! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  12. Maybe, I think it will be much more scary myself Think of it this way - how would GW react if Iran move a fleet of planes to Central America in a very passive agressive manner. The problem with the nuclear stalemate is that eventually someone will get trigger happy. An attack on Iran will destabalize many international relations in the middle east and around the globe. Push that first domino........ _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  13. So much for that. Snowing today. Why do I think it won't shift back as quick to warm as it did overnight to cold? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  14. F' That! We are getting greedy here. First a world series and now a defense that reminds us of 1985??? It's gonna be a rough game. But hell, if we can make it 3/4 of the way thru a season without a QB and still make the playoffs..... _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 17. Have you never been to a truck/rv road side stop? Those already exist and you can always get them at the stores right on the border. My friends grandparents had all but one state before they passed on. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 18. I've done Denver to Chicago just for the hell of it. Tampa to New Orleans. I've done Chicago to Tampa and back too many times. But my favorite was sitting in the apartment and roommate said he was hungry. So we drove to a nice place to get a burger 100 miles away in Milwaukee. Would waking up on Monday and deciding I wanted to go to Mexico count? The Friday after that thought I was drinking a beer on the beach. Just wondering if taking a flight like that counts. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  19. Except for those years we get a blizzard the first week of Jan I'll enjoy it while it lasts. Had the sunroof open on the way to work - very nice! Hope it lasts, but I know it won't. We've seen crap weather last well up to Easter here. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  20. As if that is a bad thing. Anyhow...this topic has been beat into the ground five times over. Do a search on this topic and look around Aug/Sept 2004. The thread was quite the hot topic at the time. There will always be people on the edge that push the line. I have no problem with that even if I will never fully understand all of what/why they do it. The general reaction at WFFC when it happened was either 1) That was fucking basass, 2) Fucking crazy bastards, or 3) Fucking Stupid Idiots. However, as someone pointed out, in Gen Aviation realted activities you are not an island. You may walk away from it but will the pilot keep his license that took him years to get and most likley over $50,000 of school and flight time (IF you have ever seen a pilot sweat that process out while grounded you know how much it sucks for them). There is a time and place for everything - the WFFC is not the place due to air traffic (there were two planes, a helicopter and a bi plane flying under the 4000 foot cieling) and the FAA sitting right in the main landing area....which is bad timing for an untested stunt. I tend to believe what Bill Booth has said a few times over the years: It will only take one bad accident to shut down most of the sport due to lawsuits. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 21. Nope, it happened at Rantoul in 2004. I saw them land it out of the corner of my eye. Bad weather, hop n pop day = a whole bunch of stupid skydiver tricks that day. We lost track of AAD fires and Mals that day there were so many. Everyone kept trying to one-up each other including a 3-way low pull contest (which IIRC had one of the Mr Bill guys on it) _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 22. Found this from DiverDriver on this very topic from a couple years back (re: the stalled casa from the 96 Richmond Boogie) The entire thread is a good read. If you search Google groups for "Upside Down Casa" it will be the first topic to come up. http://www.dropzone.com/forum/Skydiving_C1/General_Skydiving_Discussions_F18/Casa_Stall_P394357 Yes, it is a lot of work. Flying 17 people on the tail (16-way chunk and video) is tough work and you better be ready for it in the Otter. Or else yes, you can stall it. But I also believe the otter can recover from a stall easier than the Casa or Skyvan. The wing is fat and wide. In layman's aerodynamic terms it has more "bite". If you have shed most of the weight (hopefully the group went when they felt the buffet) the aircraft will recover easily. The Casa and Skyvan have a much thinner wing and will be more difficult to recover. Situationally any plane is capable of being out of control all the way to the ground. So it is imparitive that no matter what plane is being used for jumpers the pilot knows proper "unusual attitude" recovery technique. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 23. The smaller ones work better for a few reasons. The most important one is stalling the tailgate. This isn't theory as it has happened at a boogie doing a jump like this - I believe it was at Xenia. The video has been in the media for years and I know at least one person that was trapped and tossed around the inside when the plane stalled and flipped onto it's back. Luckily the pilot was able to recover the plane before it crashed. Therefore you NEED a larger plane to do something this big without major safety issues. Another issue with the last folks to come out - they have a good chance to get pulled/dragged out the plane if they are just a second late. I've seen people eat a tailgate a few times at the WFFC because of this. Lots of hands and lots of handles at a such a high speed is never fun. Being in the middle of that mess and seeing a PC bouncing around in a burble is a scary thing - I've seen it up close as it was the person I was holding that lost his PC. His riser snapped in half as soon as hit got full line stretch. People need to have gear in perfect shape with perfect pin protection for these jumps. Even then, something can/will go wrong. I love these jumps when they are done right - they are a blast. However I stopped doing them because it was always too hard to find a group of smart jumpers. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 24. Sadly it does. Pay attention to how sensational the news gets in May and Nov (aka Sweeps). They go out of the way to grab as much of the audience share as possible. When the rating book comes in, the sales department sets their billing rates around these numbers. The better the ratings, the more revenue that time slot generates. You can get midbook updates to your ratings as well...those are usually not published, but you can obtain them. If their are any viewership spikes during that time, you use it to raise your billrate (they never have to publicize if their numbers went down). _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 25. It was a miscommunication passed on from the scene. Several media sources carried it. Should they apologize? Yes - to the families more than anything else. Why did this happen? Trying to get unsecured news on the air 5 seconds before your competition.....which gets you bigger ratings and more revenue. This isn't just CNN's fault - it is how all of the media work. It's systemic. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
