Yup...not since 1985 and Jim McMahon! And I bet you still remember the "Super Bowl Shuffle" music video... I may still have the LP in storage somewhere. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Yup...not since 1985 and Jim McMahon! Even that wasn't a real passing game, it was just give it to #34 and let the best defense the game has ever seen pound the other side into the dirt. It certainly is the best passing game I think I have ever seen them have. Heh, I was pondering just before game 1 why Greise wasn't starting....boy was I ever wrong! I just wish Alexander was playing tonight to really put us on the map. After watching my poor White Sox choke, it's nice to have another winning team in town (esp one that knows how to beat MN) _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Do you buy full screen DVD movies, or widescreen?
ChasingBlueSky replied to grue's topic in The Bonfire
40-50 inch widescreens are for the bedroom! Go big and get a really nice HD projection.....nothing like having a 100 inch screen in your living room with the sound system to match. Watching sports, Xbox360 and movies in HD that large at home is something that just needs to be seen. Plus, it is somewhat portable - just pack it up and bring it to the house that is hosting this year's Super Bowl and you have a better setup than most bars. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Senate Finds No al-Qaida-Saddam Link
ChasingBlueSky replied to freethefly's topic in Speakers Corner
I don't think anyone condoned the actions of SH. However, the direct reason for the original invasion was the 9/11 link. Therefore the was started on a lie. There are plenty of other countries that are inhumane and are allowing acts of genocide to transpire within their borders. Why are people not making a fuss about stopping those actions. I don't feel we are any safer right now than we were five years ago. I don't feel any progress has been made esp when Pakistan is slowly replacing what Afghanastan was. Bush and his admin lied to us to deliver us a fake war, and many dead and broken bodies. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I hold this general knowledge, however the majority has done nothing for me. Well, it has helped me spur a few arguments on this board and in other places. But since I left the media, none of it has had an impact in my life. However this information has led to many frustrated nights knowing that despite my best efforts I've influenced very little on the environment that pushes back on me. Sometimes I wonder if ignorance really is bliss. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Always been a big fan of the 16:9 aspect ratio - and loathe pan and scan. I remember buying early Laser Discs to see the only widescreen versions of some movies. Now that me and my friends all have HD widescreens, I doubt that I could ever go back. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... For me the list is already too long. You figure after a while you would learn how to deal with it; learn what is the best way to cope and heal.....but you don't. The helplessness of death has only left me with more questions and confusion than anything else. I try to remember the happy moments that made that person who they were. However, the bitter end of their journey tends to way too heavy on me. This has me wondering where my own journey is headed and the meaning of it. Growth from death is something that happens by default, even if it isn't fully positive. You will be changed by the impact of it. But will you have control of it or will it control you? Since day one I knew the dangers of this sport and accepted it for myself. I just can't accept it for those that I consider friends. I've done what I can. I don't let their memories die. If mistakes were made, I learn from it and teach it to others. We turned Team Funnel from a fun group of friends into something that promoted a culture of safety....and I've seen it continue even in my absence. I miss skydiving even thou I've only been gone just over a year. Returning to the sport has been something I've wanted for a while now. Seeing my friends again and helping TF grow even more is something I think about almost on a daily basis. However, coming back to DZ.com this week has caused me to question if I want to do that or not....and if I want to pull the sale of my gear. But I can't knock the feeling that I am missing out on a huge part of my life. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I did as well before I started jumping. My TM said it to me before my first jump. Then I saw my first femur before I made my 2nd tandem. Then I separated my knees on my third jump. The pain made me safe and it taught me the hard way I had limits to respect. But it wasn't until I buried very close friends that the sport became less fun for me. Even that TM ended up in a wheelchair paralyzed from a bad hook. In my mind I knew which accidents could have been prevented and which ones were at the shit end of the luck scale......it didn't stop my heart from feeling the pain....and I wasn't ever quite the same again afterwards. I only knew GFD from talking to her thru posts, IMs and the few nights we partied at WFFC 04. The most outstanding memory I have is from one night when we spent too much time looking for a lost bottle of wine and then later on when I found her dancing by herself long after everyone else went to bed. Still, it sucks knowing that someone that alive is now gone. Despite anything we say, it hurts and it only reminds me of the negative side of this sport. Currently my gear is for sale. I haven't jump in about 1.5 years as my life has taken me in a different direction. But as I looked thru my archives for pictures of Shannon tonight, I found myself stopping on every jumping picture.....remembering the sound, the smell, the freedom of it all.....and it hurt almost as much. My original reaction to stopping by DZ.com tonight and seeing the terrible news was "this is why you moved on" and now I find myself missing it more than ever. What a strange group of people we are. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Americans Think Their Calls are Being Recorded
ChasingBlueSky replied to Gravitymaster's topic in Speakers Corner
Hey, all we get from the left anymore is thinly veiled PA's, comparisons to Hitler, how stupid people who voted for Bush are etc. No arguments, no suggestions on how US Security could be improved. Just bash, bash, bash. So I posted a story by the beloved CNN and tried to point out why I disagreed with it and what I thought of the story and all I get is more of the same. No wonder this forum has been so quiet lately. - You claimed that people believing what is in the media are sheep. While I don't take everything in the media as gospel, I don't distrust every word that is said. People are free to mistrust GW as his track record isn't that great. His previous actions have led people down the road to believe what you posted. As far as bashing GW? I've been doing that since I followed his actions in Texas and I was adamant against him in 99 as well. The rest of the country is just catching up to where I've been for the last ten years. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... How come WE can have them and THEY can't?
ChasingBlueSky replied to akarunway's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm thinking they feel the reverse is quite true. Who has used one in an act of aggression? What country has invaded two countries in recent history? Didn't we already play this game of chicken? Didn't we learn our lesson last time. I suggest the entire Bush admin go watch the 80s movie "War Games" in case they need a reminder. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Video Claims to Show Pilot Being Dragged
ChasingBlueSky replied to warpedskydiver's topic in Speakers Corner
Why is anyone surprised by this? When you value the bullets in your gun over the life of the person across the line, how can you expect anything humane? The person you are trying to kill has a life, has a family, has memories; just like you. In reality they are no different. When anyone is pushed to extremes they no longer act civil. Take away the location and names in the video and I would have a hard time guessing what the citizenship was of the perps in it. There are a thousand quotes from history on how nastry and ugly war is. The dark side surfaces and the thin walls that prevent us from being savage break away and the flood begins. My thoughts on this: 1) I hope the family didn't see this video of thier child. No one needs to know their family member was treated this way. 2) Be glad it was done to them after they died instead of having to suffer that much torture. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Am I the only one that still likes Bush? (The President)
ChasingBlueSky replied to Hawkins121's topic in Speakers Corner
About half of the country knew that GW was not the right choice to lead us again. Did I want Bush OR Kerry in Office? Hell no. However, I saw the fuckup that was Bush already. I'm not certain Kerry could have done much worse than this President in his second term. I'd MUCH rather be here listening to you complaining about Kerry than seeing Bush run this country into the ground until 2008. I've had a few friends come back to me and say 'you were right' when I laid out my reasons on how Bush would screw up more. Hell, even my most stubborn ex-girlfriend that hates to admit when I am right called me recently to say she voted wrong and should have listened to what I said. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... As a person that deals daily with how much IT people make, I can tell you that $62,000 median is pretty much right on. I can also tell you that most at that level do not deserve that much. It's really amazing working with pre dotcom IT workers and those that have only been in the field for the last 10 years or so. Those with 20+ years of current cutting edge experience tend to demand less, be less ADD when it comes to getting bored with your current job, and actually tend to work harder and bring in better quality. I hate to hear: get me someone with 5-7 years of experience. I know that it will mostly be ego driven salaries being asked for and most will move on from that job in 6-12 months just so they can make even more. Many IT jobs are highly overpriced due to the dotcom craze. There was some market correction, but not as much as people tend to believe. I know of one java developer with little OOD, no distributed or web background making $82,000 a year. He got there because he jump around on contract work for three years and inflated his worth by listing his billable rate as his full time rate. Sigh. I could go on for several pages about salary, careers, jobs and happiness. Bottom line is this: if you are happy and can afford your lifestyle don't make a change. Money is one of the worst motivating factors to make a job change; it tends to blind you. I've seen people make lateral career moves just for $5000 more a year - which before taxes is less than $100/week increase from the current salary. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... It was actually a statement against the big brother government style that the Thatcher government had. Most comics in the 80s and 90s were written to be a bit more timeless. If you go back and read any of the mainstream or off the beaten path books today you can find topics that mirror our current geo-political situations. heh - go read the Watchmen. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... For all you women who date or love a gamer..
ChasingBlueSky replied to Slappie's topic in The Bonfire
Check this out: From Gabe at Penny-Arcade Saturday was my six year wedding anniversary. We decided to have the grandparents come over and watch Gabe for the weekend while we relaxed at a fancy five star hotel in downtown Seattle. We made sure to find a place with wireless internet and we both took our laptops so we could play WOW all weekend. Normally at home we only play after Gabe goes to sleep so this was going to be a real treat. A day or so before our anniversary Kara turned to me and said “We’ll have this hotel room all to ourselves with no baby, you know what we should do?” My mind exploded into possibilities. We only had a day before we left for the hotel, where was I going to get an ostrich? “We should do our first Molten Core run.” She says. The words were like music in my ears. “That’s hot.” I told her. Then I leaned in and whispered, “We should get fire resist enchants.” So Saturday night we ordered a pizza to the hotel room and spent five hours in Molten Core. Each of us came away with an epic which was super cool. I know the first year anniversary is paper and I think the fourth is linen, I guess the sixth is Arcanist. Everyone is always using the mac to make sappy personal sites. It’s got all these built in templates for wedding albums and new babies. I figured I’d take the pictures from our Anniversary in Molten Core and put together a little site. It’s just a .Mac page so I’m honestly not sure how long it will hold up to a link but here it is. http://web.mac.com/mike.krahulik/iWeb/Site/Welcome.html _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Just goes to show that the flip-flop thing was just politcal rhetoric for those with sub-par memories so they could believe the largest/loudest hype at the time. Everyone else realized it's ok to change your mind over time. But since the GOP decided to make it their main talking point against Kerry, they should be held to the same standards. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Likewise. Particularly when I could write it off on my taxes if I felt like it. Screw that. I'll leave the car at home and take a cab or a town car. Almost the same cost without the worry of leaving your car in a spot where it could be broken into. In the 40 years my old man worked for the airlines he had his care broken into three times in the airport lots. At least at home I can store it in the garage or have a roomate watch it. Or better yet, live in a city that has trains that go right into the terminals. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... That's a load of bullshit. This is a show, much like Blazing Saddles, where nothing was sacred. If it was in the public eye it was going to get a lashing. South Park has been making fun of organized religion since the first Christmas Card short made about Santa/Jesus 10 years ago. Cartman has been making jokes about Jews since day one. OMG, they killed Chef. You bastards! _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
