  1. Actually, its somewhat hypocritcal. He has issues with a country singer expressing his negative opinion. Yet, Stein has no issue with putting out a neutral opinion. One person's thoughts deserve publicity over the others as long as it has no slant to it? He made a few decent points, but I was blinded by duplicity. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 4. What business is it of theirs to track free speech? It's none of their business what people say to each other, or what organizations say to their members. Tracking what people say is already done now. What is said by the media is tracked, regulated and fined if you don't follow vague socially defined boundaries. In my line of work I am not allowed to ask certain questions while hiring someone and if I do I am presented with a lawsuit. All of my correspondances need to be saved for a possible HR audit. Emails are tracked by the current administration and used against some people to arrest them under the guise of national security. And don't even get me started on how the Patriot Act infringes on freedom of speech. Again, this is only an issue you are bringing up because some gun loving website/blog is pissed about it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 5. I didn't start the fire! All I did was make pointed observations off their school-yard bully tactics. In fact they were vague observations that didn't point fingers at either side. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 6. AT one point I would have voted for McCain... like in the 2000 election I would have voted for him over Gore..... BUT. He has been pandering to the base of the rePUBICan party than old school principled REPUBLICANS... and that loses my vote very quickly. They are the people who have outspent and given away our taxes in corporate welfare... AND disseminate their policies from the pulpit..... thanks but no thanks. Did you see him turn on Cheney this week? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  7. it was pretty apparent. But it would be cool to the see the before vs after version of that report..... I also wonder exactly what they mean by "experts". Perhaps seeing all 3 versions would be entertaining. I'm not sure why they brag about the editting part...it's....odd. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 8. I don't see myself ever making excuses for this sort of dirt. Two wrongs don't make a right. I'm hoping that Obama refrains from this sort of BS and keeps it a clean, fair fight that sticks to the issues. This time around people are listening and that's what will win in '08. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 9. Hillary? Does it matter? The collective "they" are scared and are striking out before he gets any more positive press. Notice how only the conservative mouthpiece Fox News banged the drum on this the most? Sitting in IL watching Obama rise up has been interesting. I've kept my eye on him knowing that his presidential bid was coming soon. He pretty much has my vote already, but I need to read up on some of the others tossing in their hat. Hillary won't get my vote as I am tired of the Bush family running this country and I think we need fresh blood in there, and another Clinton certainly isn't it. I will say that if it comes down to Obama vs McCain that I'm not sure who I would vote for. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 10. Started sooner than I expected. They must be really scared. They can't win by leading the country and inspring the nation, so they will try to win by destroying others. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 11. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070123/ap_on_re_us/warming_climate_report Report has 'smoking gun' on climate By SETH BORENSTEIN, AP Science Writer Mon Jan 22, 8:50 PM ET Human-caused global warming is here — visible in the air, water and melting ice — and is destined to get much worse in the future, an authoritative global scientific report will warn next week. "The smoking gun is definitely lying on the table as we speak," said top U.S. climate scientist Jerry Mahlman, who reviewed all 1,600 pages of the first segment of a giant four-part report. "The evidence ... is compelling." Andrew Weaver, a Canadian climate scientist and study co-author, went even further: "This isn't a smoking gun; climate is a batallion of intergalactic smoking missiles." The first phase of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is being released in Paris next week. This segment, written by more than 600 scientists and reviewed by another 600 experts and edited by bureaucrats from 154 countries, includes "a significantly expanded discussion of observation on the climate," said co-chair Susan Solomon, a senior scientist for the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. She and other scientists held a telephone briefing on the report Monday. That report will feature an "explosion of new data" on observations of current global warming, Solomon said. Solomon and others wouldn't go into specifics about what the report says. They said that the 12-page summary for policymakers will be edited in secret word-by-word by governments officials for several days next week and released to the public on Feb. 2. The rest of that first report from scientists will come out months later. The full report will be issued in four phases over the year, as was the case with the last IPCC report, issued in 2001. Global warming is "happening now, it's very obvious," said Mahlman, a former director of NOAA's Geophysical Fluid Dynamics Lab who lives in Boulder, Colo. "When you look at the temperature of the Earth, it's pretty much a no-brainer." Look for an "iconic statement" — a simple but strong and unequivocal summary — on how global warming is now occurring, said one of the authors, Kevin Trenberth, director of climate analysis at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, also in Boulder. The February report will have "much stronger evidence now of human actions on the change in climate that's taken place," Rajendra K. Pachauri told the AP in November. Pachauri, an Indian climatologist, is the head of the international climate change panel. An early version of the ever-changing draft report said "observations of coherent warming in the global atmosphere, in the ocean, and in snow and ice now provide stronger joint evidence of warming." And the early draft adds: "An increasing body of evidence suggests a discernible human influence on other aspects of climate including sea ice, heat waves and other extremes, circulation, storm tracks and precipitation." The world's global average temperature has risen about 1.2 degrees Fahrenheit from 1901 to 2005. The two warmest years on record for the world were 2005 and 1998. Last year was the hottest year on record for the United States. The report will draw on already published peer-review science. Some recent scientific studies show that temperatures are the hottest in thousands of years, especially during the last 30 years; ice sheets in Greenland in the past couple years have shown a dramatic melting; and sea levels are rising and doing so at a faster rate in the past decade. Also, the second part of the international climate panel's report — to be released in April — will for the first time feature a blockbuster chapter on how global warming is already changing health, species, engineering and food production, said NASA scientist Cynthia Rosenzweig, author of that chapter. As confident as scientists are about the global warming effects that they've already documented, they are as gloomy about the future and even hotter weather and higher sea level rises. Predictions for the future of global warming in the report are based on 19 computer models, about twice as many as in the past, Solomon said. In 2001, the panel said the world's average temperature would increase somewhere between 2.5 and 10.4 degrees Fahrenheit and the sea level would rise between 4 and 35 inches by the year 2100. The 2007 report will likely have a smaller range of numbers for both predictions, Pachauri and other scientists said. The future is bleak, scientists said. "We have barely started down this path," said chapter co-author Richard Alley of Penn State University. ___ AP Special Correspondent Charles J. 12. The AOPA will step in on this, just like they did in the past. ANyhow, the next major attack will most likely take the path of least resistance to impact this country. Hitting us in our weak spot will cause more panic than anything else. While hitting NYC would be a lot of press, imagine if a city like Denver, Lexington or Minneapolis was hit? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 14. I don't see anything saying they can't speak their mind, so the title of your thread is misleading. They are trying to track what the lobbyists are doing, I have no problem with that. I would even guess that these grass roots are funded by large companies that have their own motivation. There is nothing wrong with tracking what organizations do, esp when it involves the influence of our lawmakers. My thought is that some people wouldn't care if gun based groups didn't get upset about it. You have to wonder if there isn't a loophole here that someone is exploiting. They are not preventing anyone from speaking their mind. They were trying to enforce some responsiblity. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  15. I LOVE safeties. There's nothing like a safety for rubbing the other teams' collective nose in it, AND you get the ball back. Getting the win and making our own reporters eat crow has to feel good as well. 19. I'll take more people talking like this about the Bears for the next two weeks. I don't mind and it will motivate them. So bring it on. Also, everyone had the Saints picked to win. So what if a computer from a tv network? Is that supposed to mean something because it can look at something as just numbers? If you looked at the numbers as most sport writers did, they felt the NO offense wouldn't be stopped by the Bears. So who are you going to believe (even all but one sports columnist from the Chicago Sun Times picked the Saints)? Just remember: On any given Sunday.... _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
  20. Don't suppose you saw the Bears shut down one of the best offenses that played this season. The 4th will be a good game esp with the amount of turnovers Peyton and Rex are known for. The Saints at least partially shut themselves down with all those turnovers. Don't get me wrong, the Bears earned every bit of the NFC championship, but Grossman is no Manning. I thought the Saints might have had a slight chance just based on the "destiny" thing, but the AFC outclassed the NFC by a pretty wide margin this year. As a Seahawks fan, I figured at least a month ago that whoever won the NFC would just win the right to play sacrificial lamb. I'll still hope for a good game, but will focus more on drinking than crossing my fingers. Blues, Dave I hope the next two weeks are nothing but that kind of talk. The bears do better when they are told they are underdogs and underachievers. Our Defense was on the news last night quite pissed off at the disrespect they had gotten from the national media this past week.....and we all saw what that produced. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
