Not in skydiving. I've seen it in skydiving, I've seen it from someone losing someone to cancer.....its just part of the process for some people. Death has a way of making you feel helpless....adding anger to it only makes it worse. Somehow a release is found, and to each their own at that point. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I don't think there is a handguide for tragedies that spells out how much time we should wait before moving to a next step. We know there is a point where it is just uncalled for - and even experienced it here in SC yesterday - but from there you just make it up as you go along. I'm not going to pretend to understand what anyone at VT is feeling, nor am I going to fault them for those emotions. I can barely understand the impact and extent of 32 dead innocent people. I also don't fully understand if there was anything in the chain of events yesterday that could have saved a few more. But imagine being a VT student's parent yesterday and the range of emotions they went through, esp not knowing if their child was alive or not......then finding them alive and knowing they nearly lost them. I'm actually shocked it took this long for someone to channel their helplessness and anger onto someone else. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Spliting hairs at this point. The guns were purchased legally. He most likely had criminal intent that day. He certainly had it as he planned it out, wrote the note, chained the doors shut, etc. Who knows when he filed the numbers off...but my thought is he was well on his way to acting like a criminal before that event. I don't think any new or different gun laws would have prevented him from killing someone. However I do believe that his easy access to guns allowed him to take out a lot more. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... 32 dead kids. Did you not expect the families to cover the entire emotional spectrum? Even if their kid was there and survived, did you think they wouldn't raise some questions? These questions were being tossed around yesterday by the media, it was only time before someone upset and emotional voiced them. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... No, we don't. I would assume that he probably had no criminal troubles in his past - at least no convictions. We can make that assumption. He purchased the guns just this past March from a store called Roanoke Firearms for $571. He had three forms of ID and passed the online background check in one minute. Source: http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/04/17/vtech.shooting/index.html More info on the kid: http://newsbloggers.aol.com/2007/04/17/cho-seung-huis-plays/ This is a blog of a VT student that works for AOL and had Cho in his writing class. Two stories that Cho wrote are on that AOL blog link as well. It seems the John character is speaking from Cho's POV and he has some major issues with authority figures. In regards to the Original Post (and I am sure this will bring out the NRA folk in volleys): Australian Leader Decries U.S. 'Gun Culture' http://news.aol.com/topnews/articles/_a/australian-leader-decries-us-gun-culture/20070417110909990001 He delves into the tragedy his own country suffered and how he believes the change to their laws have helped lower crime. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Very melodramatic and non-sequitor of you... It's not melodramatic, it's sobering and disgusting at the same time. Just reading some of that makes me wonder how someone could grandstand at this time. Of course illogical things will be said - questionable opinions about civil rights,etc.....it is to be expected after an event like this. Do you think talking about airline safety would have been a good grandstanding topic on 9/11? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... You have no problem making a soapbox on the bodies of 33 people? Good timing. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

You can do so, but you have no right to tell others to do so. My guns have never harmed anyone. I keep them, as it is a right under the Constitution, and I have a right to protect myself. The Courts have said the Police are under no obligation to protect any one individual. Therefore, I choose to protect myself. If one of the students had been armed, perhaps this could have been avoided. Outlaw guns. Then you've only disarmed the prey, not the predator. That would have been a good idea....an untrained teen or 20 something in a packed classoom building full of mass panic choosing to go vigilante. As it is no one knew what was going on for some time and they knew someone was shooting up students....people fled for safety and did things like jump out of top floors and broke their body in a panic. Now, lets add in to the mix several people with guns not knowing who the killer is....SWAT people looking to take down the killer as well. My thoughts are that more would be dead if there were other students with guns today. But hey, you have your gun rights still and we still have 33 dead. Are they connected? I'm sure there will be plenty of stats saying they aren't but I suggest you don't try to sell that fact to those 33 families right now. Hopefully that number won't grow since at least 50 were shot. And before anyone stops to throw out hateful words about pro/anti gun laws....stop and put yourself in the shoes of the people out there today in Western VA. They watched friends die and now have to deal with it. 33 senseless deaths......there really are no words. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Who cares? His employers had the right to fire him, they did, and good riddance to him. If anyone had spent any time over the last 20 years listening to Imus you would know that his comments were nothing to some of the things he has said over the years. This wasn't about moral values or upset basketball players...it was a political move by Sharpton and Jackson to show they still have the ability to force their own personal agenda on whomever they way. This ploy was to give them more currency against their next victim. Stop acting like this was a good thing, because it was far from it. And if you think it was, you just got caught up in all the hype just like the rest of the sheep. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... There are a few issues with the internet in it's current form. One is that the USA is holding on to so many IP addys that they don't need to use. I know that some companies are releasing some back into use (even some Class A) as companies have hired people to better network their organizations. Also, there is a large issue with redundancy with the Internet. As it is, I believe there are only 12 or 13 primary name domain controlers around the world. Brining down one or two of these via any type of attack or failure would have a significant impact on internet connectivity. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I wouldn't go that far. It depends on the job and their background. Also, not everyone at SAIC is former military. I try to recruit out of SAIC whenever I need individuals with security clearance, esp if they come from a network security background. I've seen both overpriced and underpriced people there. I'm much less concerned about something like SAIC than I am the 150 people from Pat Robertson's law school that work in the Bush Admin....you know, the school that is trying to break down the wall between church and state. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... FUCK! They did a free concert here in Chicago this weekend on Saturday and I didn't hear about it until this morning. First time they are on stage together in 7 years and it's free and accessable for me..... _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Fascinating speculation. Do you have experience in advertising? A lot of people are good at spouting confident bullshit about things they know nothing about. Must come from watching TV sitcoms about advertising agencies or something. Used to be in media, helped get Stern fired in Chicago by a few methods because we worked at a rival station (and he had been pulling some shit on us, so it was returned in kind). One of those methods was personally contacting his advertisers with tapes of his FCC violations. Stern later named me and a few others via our company in a law suit that was later dropped. Meanwhile advertisers left him and new ones came on at higher fees. I think that backs up my response enough. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

The biggest factor here is how much people react to sensationalized media. They told you how to feel and many banged the drums for him to be fired...even if they never once heard Imus on the air during his entire career. I've never been an Imus fan (boring and lacking content), but he didn't deserve to lose his job. The ironic part is that Jackson did the same thing in 1984 yet no one remembers that. He has an agenda but his own actions show how hollow and transparent his motives are. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... My point is that I hate hypocrites...and the media are all a bunch of fucking mindless puppets looking for a headline at the cost of someone's professional and social life. Then that little thing about freedom of speech....but thank god we had Imus to crucify so we could avoid talking about the real issues in this country for a week. True true... I think one of tho blogspot blogs that were linked actually had some newsworthy stuff on it, but no oner looks at it, because it is all about the raitngs. If americans really want to know what is going on outside our bubble tune in the BBC world news Media is Media is the same no matter where you go if there is money to be made. Then the public access media is usually people that have a soapbox they want to preach from. The rest if gov't controled and has their slant. There is no neutral media....there is media packaged a bit better to make you feel better for believing what they sell you. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Maybe ... or maybe the pool of advertisers for that sort of risky account has been tapped. Or maybe that pool of advertisers isn't interested in a one-off splurge. If imus were to continue, this would blow over eventually. Notice that limbaugh's advertisers have been with him for many years. Short radio campaigns during a controversy are probably worth approximately one small bucket of warm spit. The advertisers are there and there are plenty to go around for all. They are just reacting to the latest headlines....and when the dust settles they will go back to doing what they were before. Thankfully the public has ADD and won't remember this in a few weeks, nor care. Meanwhile quite a few people lose their jobs (Imus has a full staff of people working for him) and a bunch of time was wasted on a non-story. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... An interesting bit of history: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/special/clinton/frenzy/jackson.htm Jesse Jackson's 'Hymietown' Remark – 1984 Rev. Jesse Jackson referred to Jews as "Hymies" and to New York City as "Hymietown" in January 1984 during a conversation with a black Washington Post reporter, Milton Coleman. Jackson had assumed the references would not be printed because of his racial bond with Coleman, but several weeks later Coleman permitted the slurs to be included far down in an article by another Post reporter on Jackson's rocky relations with American Jews. A storm of protest erupted, and Jackson at first denied the remarks, then accused Jews of conspiring to defeat him. The Nation of Islam's radical leader Louis Farrakhan, an aggressive anti-Semite and old Jackson ally, made a difficult situation worse by threatening Coleman in a radio broadcast and issuing a public warning to Jews, made in Jackson's presence: "If you harm this brother [Jackson], it will be the last one you harm." Finally, Jackson doused the fires in late February with an emotional speech admitting guilt and seeking atonement before national Jewish leaders in a Manchester, New Hampshire synagogue. Yet Jackson refused to denounce Farrakhan, and lingering, deeply rooted suspicions have led to an enduring split between Jackson and many Jews. The frenzy also heightened tensions between Jackson and the mostly white establishment press. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... http://www.kansascity.com/182/story/66339.html Imus isn’t the real bad guy Instead of wasting time on irrelevant shock jock, black leaders need to be fighting a growing gangster culture. By JASON WHITLOCK Columnist Thank you, Don Imus. You’ve given us (black people) an excuse to avoid our real problem. You’ve given Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson another opportunity to pretend that the old fight, which is now the safe and lucrative fight, is still the most important fight in our push for true economic and social equality. You’ve given Vivian Stringer and Rutgers the chance to hold a nationally televised recruiting celebration expertly disguised as a news conference to respond to your poor attempt at humor. Thank you, Don Imus. You extended Black History Month to April, and we can once again wallow in victimhood, protest like it’s 1965 and delude ourselves into believing that fixing your hatred is more necessary than eradicating our self-hatred. The bigots win again. While we’re fixated on a bad joke cracked by an irrelevant, bad shock jock, I’m sure at least one of the marvelous young women on the Rutgers basketball team is somewhere snapping her fingers to the beat of 50 Cent’s or Snoop Dogg’s or Young Jeezy’s latest ode glorifying nappy-headed pimps and hos. I ain’t saying Jesse, Al and Vivian are gold-diggas, but they don’t have the heart to mount a legitimate campaign against the real black-folk killas. It is us. At this time, we are our own worst enemies. We have allowed our youths to buy into a culture (hip hop) that has been perverted, corrupted and overtaken by prison culture. The music, attitude and behavior expressed in this culture is anti-black, anti-education, demeaning, self-destructive, pro-drug dealing and violent. Rather than confront this heinous enemy from within, we sit back and wait for someone like Imus to have a slip of the tongue and make the mistake of repeating the things we say about ourselves. It’s embarrassing. Dave Chappelle was offered $50 million to make racially insensitive jokes about black and white people on TV. He was hailed as a genius. Black comedians routinely crack jokes about white and black people, and we all laugh out loud. I’m no Don Imus apologist. He and his tiny companion Mike Lupica blasted me after I fell out with ESPN. Imus is a hack. But, in my view, he didn’t do anything outside the norm for shock jocks and comedians. He also offered an apology. That should’ve been the end of this whole affair. Instead, it’s only the beginning. It’s an opportunity for Stringer, Jackson and Sharpton to step on victim platforms and elevate themselves and their agenda$. I watched the Rutgers news conference and was ashamed. Martin Luther King Jr. spoke for eight minutes in 1963 at the March on Washington. At the time, black people could be lynched and denied fundamental rights with little thought. With the comments of a talk-show host most of her players had never heard of before last week serving as her excuse, Vivian Stringer rambled on for 30 minutes about the amazing season her team had. Somehow, we’re supposed to believe that the comments of a man with virtually no connection to the sports world ruined Rutgers’ wonderful season. Had a broadcaster with credibility and a platform in the sports world uttered the words Imus did, I could understand a level of outrage. But an hourlong press conference over a man who has already apologized, already been suspended and is already insignificant is just plain intellectually dishonest. This is opportunism. This is a distraction. In the grand scheme, Don Imus is no threat to us in general and no threat to black women in particular. If his words are so powerful and so destructive and must be rebuked so forcefully, then what should we do about the idiot rappers on BET, MTV and every black-owned radio station in the country who use words much more powerful and much more destructive? I don’t listen or watch Imus’ show regularly. Has he at any point glorified selling crack cocaine to black women? Has he celebrated black men shooting each other randomly? Has he suggested in any way that it’s cool to be a baby-daddy rather than a husband and a parent? Does he tell his listeners that they’re suckers for pursuing education and that they’re selling out their race if they do? When Imus does any of that, call me and I’ll get upset. Until then, he is what he is — a washed-up shock jock who is very easy to ignore when you’re not looking to be made a victim. No. We all know where the real battleground is. We know that the gangsta rappers and their followers in the athletic world have far bigger platforms to negatively define us than some old white man with a bad radio show. There’s no money and lots of danger in that battle, so Jesse and Al are going to sit it out. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I was born with a sub-standard immune system, having to fight off massive infections since birth (I've lost count of how many 104 degree temperatures I've had in my life). I picked up chicken pox as an infant and have known of cold sores my entire life. I never knew you could have such an outbreak as GTA posted since a cold sore is the only thing I get when/if they happen. Usually they are kicked off at high stress times or at times when my immune system is lower than usuall. I can go years without one, or I can get 2 in three months. You can ALWAYS tell when one is coming as it causes a very uncomfortable tingling in your lip that doesn't stop until it flares up. But as Elvisio said, they are very common and most people I know have gotten them. With a little bit of education and a visit to your doctor you know how to handle them and if you need any med's to help with the flare up. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Agreed. Rantoul was the perfect site for an event of this type. You need to consider a pro-rated ticket cost for those of use nearby that come only for the weekend if/when it starts back up. I choose to skip the last one I could have gone to, refusing to pay full cost for the last two days (esp since not much is around on that Sunday) _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Have it on the PS2, doubt I will spend more money to pick the game up again, esp since I picked up GH1 used for dirt cheap. I wish I could get the downloadable content, but I can't beat half the current songs as it is. However the guitar for 360 sounds like the buttons are better, and I could use that since I still have too much trouble on Hard mode and above with the Orange button. (I can only hit 55% on Freebird on Hard ) The game itself is a guilty pleasure. Tried it out at Best Buy ready to laugh it off as the DDR for rock. I couldn't believe how fun this simple game is and how many hours you can get out of it when you play against someone. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me....
