After a process of elimination I've found the culprit to be Gawain's avatar. I'm not sure I understand the impact of this as he has used that picture for some time. The question I have, is this an issue with the picture that is stored on the DZ.com servers or is it related to the version of IE they are running on our thin clients (its locked down, so I can't update it). _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... That is the Godsend symbol...it is everywhere and we saw Ando try to interpret it in the epidsode called "Godsend" (when Hiro stole the fake sword from the museum). Interesting enough Claire's Mom went on that tangent on how it was a gift from god last night. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Next seaon will deal more with Hiro's dad. THe storyline may reset to a certain extent, but alot of it was started this season. I wonder if HRG reverts back to his morally-grey ways again after the Hatian removed the deep memories. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Most likely the best episode so far and the acting was well done by all. I was worried it was going to be a slow/boring hostage storyline....boy was I wrong. A LOT of questions answered last night...and some very clear links to many of the characters. Must say that George Taki as a figure head in this shadow op explains why so many have that 'godsend' symbol on them. So many good parts in that show last night...I really liked the part where HRG and Claire both used Matt's power to thier advantage. The flashbacks were perfectly done as well. I think next weeks show may be the seaon cliffhanger.....I wonder if Syler has so many issues with the hearing that he asks for the shot to supress his powers from Mohinder. When does season 2 start? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

Quote McCain, the ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee This makes me think about glass houses and rocks. IIRC the SACC is connected to the welfare of our injured troops once they come home. The first waves to return home will be in April and apparently the date is already set. You have to wonder if there is any long term plans for supporting that region after they leave. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Apparently this is a wise move according to the White House Spin.....after all the chatter from the Bush admin on how this new buildup is needed, apparently it is only needed in Baghdad: Meanwhile from Cheney: _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... It's a 50% increase in the tax/gallon. This change will DIRECTLY impact every business in Kane County as those over the road costs will be directed back to the consumers in raised product costs. Yes, I am comparing it and saying this is far more of an issue than a tax on ammo. A gallon of gas costs over $2. The tax increase is 2 cents per gallon. Therefore, the total cost increase is less than 1%. BFD. Great thing about percentages, you can look at them however you want, eh? BFD? Apparently it is if county board members say: "I'm concerned we are going to tax people out of the county," and two of the biggest transportion/fuel spots in the county are concerned they will close from it. I gues the uproar on the ammo was yet another NIMBY sceanrio. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Couldn't have said it better myself! I have no desire to be around anyone that is partaking. Exactly. So one of the County's next to Cook County voted on a new tax this week - a 50% increase. Do you feel that this is a bad thing as well? Are you going to beat on the drums of war over this? http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/west/chi-0702140086feb14,1,6434101,print.story?coll=chi-newslocalwest-hed&ctrack=1&cset=true Kane OKs higher fuel tax But 2-cent increase might exclude diesel By William Presecky Tribune staff reporter February 14, 2007 After the Kane County Board voted Tuesday to increase the county tax on motor fuel to 4 cents a gallon, some truck-stop owners predicted the increase could force them to close. To address the owners' concerns, the board agreed to reconsider whether diesel, biodiesel and ethanol-mix fuels should be exempt from the 2-cent increase to the county's 2-cent tax. The increase, which takes effect April 1, is expected to provide an additional $4.6 million annually to the county's highway-improvement fund. Kane is joining neighboring DuPage and McHenry Counties in assessing the full 4-cents-a-gallon county fuel tax allowed by state law since 1990. Operators of two truck stops near Interstate Highway 90 in Hampshire strongly objected to the increase. "I see a 20-percent reduction in my business," TravelCenters of America district manager Drew Kortyna said. "Worst-case scenario, we close," he said. A $1.7 million upgrade proposed for the Road Ranger truck stop on U.S. Highway 20 and I-90, in far northwestern Kane, will have to be reconsidered in light of the increase, a company spokesman testified. The two Hampshire truck stops cater largely to long-haul truckers and, combined, sold nearly 10.5 million gallons of diesel fuel and, including ancillary sales, generated more than $230,000 in sales taxes for Hampshire, said Mayor Jeffrey Magnussen. In deference to the truck stop operators, County Board Transportation Committee chairman Jan Carlson (R-Elburn) said the committee will consider exempting diesel and other special fuels from the tax increase. Kane has collected about $57 million in local-option fuel taxes since it began collecting a 2-cent-a-gallon fee more than 15 years ago. The current annual cost just to maintain county roads is about $10 million. "We have a major crisis in terms of transportation funding," said board member John Hoscheit (R-St. Charles), who argued in support of the increase. "We are millions of dollars short ... just [for planned improvements] to keep traffic at the current flow," he said. "I'm concerned we are going to tax people out of the county," said board member Deborah Allan (R-Elgin) who, along with board member John Noverini (R-Carpentersville) was one of two Republicans to vote against the increase. They were joined by three Democrats, including board member Bonnie Kunkel (D-Aurora) who said the increase will fall disproportionately on the people least able to afford it. Kunkel challenged the majority of board members' belief that the increase will have little or no effect on pump prices, which are driven largely by market forces. In support of the proposed increase, Carlson and others had argued that pump prices in DuPage County, where a 4-cent-a-gallon tax has been in place, closely mirrored and in some case were lower than in Kane County, with its 2-cent tax. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Think it was -4 on the way to the bus this morning. It has turned the 13 inches of snow we picked up this week (we had 50+mph winds as well) into solid ice making life hellish to get around. What's worse is that ice is now forming on the inside of my windshiled meaning I have a leak somewhere on the driver side of my car that I can't find...and don't want to spend that much time out in the cold trying to find it. Think I heard this is one of the coldest Feb's in Chicago history. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Certainly they should, but not in areas where they infringe upon constitutional rights. Then I feel they should tax ammo to help with that as I don't see how its anymore illegal than any of the other taxes in this county Did you like it when the cook county board paid 20 million dollars to rename Cook County Hosptal to Stroeger Hospital? Oh thats right!! The name change saved lives. well at least they were thinking only of the less fortunate. Those fucking pieces of shit belong in prison, not office. No, I didn't like or support it, nor did I vote for Stroeger. It's even better that he has promoted his cousin to be in charge of finances for the county as well :/ I can't wait till the axe comes down....there is so much corruption in this state its terrible. At least they finally went after ryan and a bunch inside city hall. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... So, you feel that taxes by the county shouldn't be setup to help with the budget issues that directly impact the health of the population? Or, only taxes that don't infringe on your personal battles? Did you make a big stink about this when they setup any of the other Cook County taxes over the last 10 years or so? _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Well all right then - infringe upon everyone's constitutional rights equally. As long as you don't have to wait a few hours in the hospital, then that's all okay. How about a dollar tax for every newspaper purchase? How about a dollar tax every time you go vote in an election? How about a dollar tax every time a police officer drives down your street? How about you pay for your own hospital bill instead of expecting the county taxpayers to take care of you? If the county has cut 17% of their spending and that's still not enough, then that just shows how whacko out of control they were in the first place. Politicians and county managers should be losing their jobs over this. Alot of people are losing jobs right now, and Kallend addressed the other issue with our property taxes. There is alot of issues right now and some new taxes are in order to stop the immediate bleeding. We are taxed on just about everything here and each year they come up with new and creative things to tax us on in Cook County because its pretty f'd up. I don't see how a tax on my newspaper or on my bullets is a constitutional infringement....cause if it is, then I should be upset about how much extra my beer costs me here due to the sin tax. Health care is MUCH more important to me than a new tax on a luxury like ammunition. Let the tax fly, I am all for it. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

So raise the tax on the traditional sins: Alcohol and Tobacco. Why would the City council want to tempt the bottomless pockets of the NRA-ILA with this misguided bill?? The County and City will not pass any more tax hikes on things like our hotels, more sin taxes, more taxi taxes because they have raised them so much already. Just to sit in a cab in Chicago is 2.45 before you go anywhere and our smokes cost more than our fuel. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... Outside of smokes, nothing is taxed at 100% (or 500%) of the item's value. That 80$ license sticker is a tiny portion of the cost of car ownership, and that money (and the gas taxes) pay for the road infrastructure. That license sticker is only one of more than a dozen ways the county, state and city tax me on my car. There is a much larger percentage that goes right towards the tax of the item. Then there is the gas tax that increases every year as well. The IDOT toll roads pay for our road infrastructure. By comparison, my sister pays $20 for her sticker just 15 min from me in the next county over. Every year there is talk of 'whats next' in regards to new or upgraded taxes in this city. Nothing in Cook County is immune to the tax axe here. That is just part of living in this County and in Chicago. As I said before, the bigger picture here is that more money is needed for life/death reasons in this county. I'm in favor of the tax. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....

And Ald Natarus of Chicago's 42nd ward has pushed thru odder things than that. But since he has been on the City Council for over 40 years I guess we don't mind. For those that don't know, the 42nd is THE district in Chicago that includes all of downtown and the Gold Coast. 42nd = Chicago's money. Well, it is an election year, so we will see what happens. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... We are in a County that is suffering major budget issues right now. There is going to be a 17% flat cut on county staff and this includes the doctors and nurses at the county hospital. As it stands, most of Chicago can only use bullets for hunting guns as handguns are banned here, so it won't impact too many (Chicago is part of Cook County, as is the Chicago Metro Burbs). I am MUCH more concerned about the massive health care issue in Cook County and how it is about to get worse over the next few weeks. I have personally experienced this. During the two weeks I was without insurance I ended up with an inury to my foot that prevented me from walking. I had to deal with the county system during that time. It is FAR worse than the press lets you know. Just to see my doctor I had to wait over 10 hours, then they lost me for an addition 4 hours, only to wait 2 moure hours once I was 'found.' I only had to deal with this on the short term. There are many others that have it far worse. This wait time is directly connected to how understaffed the county hospital system is. Did you know it is a 10 hour wait time just to pick up your montly medicare or social security prescriptions....think about that, our sick ederly population in Chicago has to wait 10 hours every 30 days just to get their meds. If the window closes before they get their meds they have to come back the next day because there is no room in the budget for overtime. If this tax means that our county health care system may be able to function a bit more, then I am all for it....and I could care less what the NRA or anyone else has to say about it. They can get off their parnoid pulpit and come back to the reality of what it takes for a County this big to survive. Gain some damn perspective. When you live in a big city you get taxed on everything, get over it or move. Do you think my $80 license sticker and $75 vehicle sticker is part of a vast comspiracy against cars? What about my recently increased electrical rates....or that they put parking meters in my neighborhood.....or that our sin tax is HUGE on items like smokes, beer, etc.... _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I had a coworker say: hey, news story here about a guy that fell from skydiving and lived....I didn't look away from my screen and said "does it say his chute(s) failed from a couple miles up at hundred miles per hour made a loud crash and somehow lived but will jump again?" He thought I had already read the article lol. _________________________________________ you can burn the land and boil the sea, but you can't take the sky from me.... I WILL fly again.....
