  1. Yes I hope FEMA is smarter, but the case that was referenced was the 'stayed behind' faulting FEMA for not knowing and being ill prepared when they did 'not know' and were 'ill prepared'. However deplorable the conditions at the 'shelters' were, I could argue that the conditions in an attic would be the same or worse. As bad as the shelter was it was one (albeit tiny) step above an attic in a flooded house. Can't imagine not having human waste in the attic, lack of provisions....at least there was no oil-sewer-flood water below, you could move around and find shade and not be subject to the attic 'sauna effect', plus you are that much closer to the aid when it arrives. I am not saying conditions were ideal, or even humane, but just a notch above 'trapped'. Now if there was even a slight improvement in condition, the losing an arm analogy would not work. Blame itself is spreading like a disease right now. We can not go back, but only learn and move forward (hopefully wiser all around). Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  2. Put the crack pipe down! Spend a few minutes looking at the posts and you can see I never said anything about a baby killer. On second thought, inhale deeply many many times Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  3. Thanks, even the horses understand now Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  4. hypocrite-a person given to hypocrisy hypocrisy-the professing of beliefs or virtues one does not possess THIS is the point of the post, no socioeconomic status, abilty, etc. The pure HYPOCRISY of the behavior of those stuck by their own free will blaming someone else for not doing what they themselves did not even attempt to do. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  5. pssst Ian...JFK Jr Apparently someone blew him up, he did not just ignore instrument training in flight school...right Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  6. I believe we do have such a budget...but this being the 'largest catastrophe to date' I suspect it was not quite large enough. The emergency approval, merely a formality...part of our checks and balances system of government. Would not want the Pres (whoever it is) thinking they could willy-nilly appropriate that amount without the approval of congress. War, while being perceived as stupid, unfortunately is a fact of life...unless you have a worldwide peace forever plan we are not aware of. And you are so right, lets get boob jobs for everyone, that is a better use for money. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  7. No the other billions, We have so many, its easy for others to lose track Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  8. Well we will just agree to disagree...I am not the one who needs to understand...you are (by your own admission) so you can either research it so you know what you are talking about, or continue with your rambling does not matter one bit to me. We are not taking the country from the Iraquis as you keep saying. If you do your homework you would see we are in fact giving it to them. You say fact is key, but you have shown nothing to support your claims, which leads me to believe you still have no clue what the facts are...again do your homework. Not sure about the voting comment, because Bush became president because we voted him there. No one held a gun to our heads and told us to. I am not going to get into my beliefs of the weapons of mass destruction because I do not have all the facts. And since that is what you say you are basing things on... Free to do what you are told? Not sure what that means. We agree as citizens to follow laws and rules or suffer the consequences. But, then again I think it is the same where you are. I hope you do your research before slamming anyone or their country, it will help your understanding and make your theories sound less ignorant/naive. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  9. kallend-I dont think he is blaming the victims. I think it was more pointing out how hypocritical people are sometimes. I board a plane after a thorough briefing from several sources on the winds aloft being excessive. I jump, track with the wind opening up WAY off the DZ. I land in some far off place(hey maybe I had a wingsuit...or my tracking was just that damn good) and I sit there in the woods/field etc. While I wait I pack my canopy, braid my hair, whatever. Four hours later the search party finds me and I chew them out for not getting there right after I landed. What makes me think I can chew them out for not coming to pick me up right away, when I did not make good decisions, or even try to help myself by getting to a road, house, etc. I apologize to hook if this is not what he meant, but this is my take on what he said. 10. This I think is confusing because you are not familiar with the situation. THey have the guns to ensure the safety of the aid workers and protect the citizens from the unruly (for example people attacking aid workers for more supplies, or unruly types taking advantage of the lack of police presence) this is not isolated to the US. Search at any type disaster and you will see the need...I hope you never personally experience it, because it is indeed a very ugly and unsafe thing. If you think this is why the USA is there, then I can understand you feelings. I do not claim to know all the intricacies, and only the head people truly know what all is going on, but I think if you do a lot of research you will see the US presence in the mideast is not to 'own all the oil'. I am not trying to be mean, but I have a hard time understanding this part, but I will respond as best I can... Umm, yeah, part of the reason we are after the terrorists responsible for the NYC attack. Not quite sure what this means exactly, but if someone is trying to take our land away, well we have fought wars for that. If we become a dictatorship, or other type government and someone was coming in to help restore order I would help them with whatever they needed. Again, I was not quite sure what you were asking. Questions are never a bad thing, they help us all to understand things better. I certainly do not have all the answers, and I know the general public only has a small idea of the details of everything the government knows. I would not want it any other way. 11. I am still waiting on a repy to my question to better help me understand your position. BUT, I will answer the base rescue question in my own opinion.... If a BASE jumper needs resuce SEND 'em in, get them out and to a hospital if needed. Should they pay, um yeah. If I incur expenses I suspect I am accountable for those. Now in the instance that said BASE jumper has no insurance, the same rules apply just as they would to the homeless, poor, drug addicted, people from other countries, and others who can not afford to pay..the hospitals/emergency crews eat the cost and it goes on their credit report. The runaway bride had to help pay for her 'rescue efforts' I really dont see much difference. Do our tax dollars pay for this, I am sure they do to a point. Have other people needed rescuing from objects other than BASE jumpers, oh hell yeah. I know my tax dollars go to help pay for the cost of all of these situations and it does not matter to me one bit. It is a small price to pay for the freedoms I enjoy in my humble opinion. I pay city, county, state, federal and sales taxes, do they spend the money the way I would, no, but then again you would be hard pressed to find two people that agreed on all points of the budget. BUT I don't have to write a check to the Sherriff when they come out to arrest trespassers on my property. When I vote, I vote for people that share my views and opinions and hope they make informed logical decisions, if not, well guess what happens next election? 12. I also would like clarification on this statement, I think I might be reading it the wrong way... Is this to mean that you support troops as people but when they kill you can not support them anymore? Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  13. I am drawing the line in the sand so to speak right here We killed more people so we were wrong? Not the way it works-anywhere. I doubt we have killed more than the 'enemy' has...have you looked at the US servicemembers fatality list??? If by some far stretch the 'enemies' numbers are lower, imagine what they would be if we had not taken them down a little at a time. It is so very easy for people to say (both here and in other countries) we should stay in the US, but I would bet my life that those same people would be screaming we need to help the less fortunate/those who need us if we stayed on our own soil. Then the US would be elitist. Now granted this is a watered down version, but I figured most people could take this better. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

  15. well she obviously hit a bump...probably one of the men who fell in the road after being photographed in the other photos.....if I had to guess Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

  17. Then, She and her cop friends can go help collect the rotting bodies of the dead all over the city. Its been more than three days, the maggotts should be just getting ripe Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  18. Yeah, I already told you my view on that one! The unemployment line is no place for her...because she will still get a gov't check... I am thinking more along the lines of cleaning the human waste out of the first shelters..thats a good start. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  19. No, no, no, you haven't been watching the news...they weren't 'looting' they were 'finding things'...thats why the cop couldnt find any looters. Seriously though, picking out shoes instead of doing your civic and moral duty...protect and serve....you officer are part of the reason people are dying..sleep with that each night Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  20. ***tongue planted firmly in cheek*** Maybe they all knew the danger...and NO was supposed to take a direct cat 5 hit...maybe they figured....no souls no problem. I mean, there wouldnt be anyone there to complain about it. AND they wouldnt have to worry about sending in aid...maybe that was their plan the whole time....hmm...its a theory. **Not meant as a serious position on the topic** Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  21. Well there goes the theory on 'they did not have the money to leave'. I was, however, a bit unclear on whether it was the 'spirit of the French Quarter' to not gouge, or to drink until you run out of money...hmmm... Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  22. Kudos for you guys for getting proactive. I would like for you to consider a type of first aid kit. Doesnt have to be anything fancy, and sometimes you can find things to improvise bandages and such, but more often than not you will have a need for basic first aid supplies. 23. I am not sure mandatory training would change much at all. Sure I could 'study for the test' or 'behave in the class'...but when the time comes and the moment of truth is here...it is going to come down to my personality and instinctive actions. All I got out of the classes was how to put myself in a position to have solid legs to stand on in a court of law when the gray areas are hid under by lawyers.
