I had a big problem paying for coach jumps with a coach I never saw in freefall . I an my instructors told him how fast I fell "oh, i can stay with her' NOT!!!! No offense, but I would rather do a solo and have fun than stay 'in the box' and waste a whole freefall waiting for a coach to show up! Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

Things to Keep In Mind Regarding a Cutaway
NtheSeaOrSky replied to Bandanarama's topic in Safety and Training
I tried to point out that during the pulling of the pillow, I was looking up the whole time...and since the danger in not clearing the cables is you leave the longer side riser attached...watching both sides release and fly off into the wind signaled somewhere no need to keep pulling the pillow. This post is not directed to anyone in particular, so please don't get offended. Sit and think for a moment. Yes, if you lost possesions/house/job whether through hurricane, looters or other YES it would tremendously suck, but it would not be the end of the world. You can always start over-I am not blowing smoke up your ass-I have been there several times for different reasons. Think about what is really important to you in life..I hope this is your family and friends. I hope this is what you want with you if you had nothing else in the world. I hope you can be thankful for them should that be the case. I would hope this would help make your decisions in the face of the risks and benefits of them. Things to Keep In Mind Regarding a Cutaway
NtheSeaOrSky replied to Bandanarama's topic in Safety and Training
I also jump at a very help-oriented DZ. I had to thank the spotters on our jump for the excellent spot, as I was last out and pulled high to test the demo canopy, cutaway right away and the main still landed on the DZ! I was able to hang in the wind long enough to watch the freebag's whereabouts before setting up for landing. When the pilot landed, he said he tried to watch where it went but lost it behind the trees. Since it was demo and rental gear I was VERY happy to recover everything! Having the handle was a complete fluke, as I was trained to release the handles when executing EP's. My mal was a two-out and when I felt the reserve pop off my back cutaway right away to try and avoid it. Since I was watching the canopies, I never even looked at my handles and when the main released both sides, I guess I quit pulling the handle. At landing time, I felt something flapping on my hip and remember thinking 'WHAT is going wrong now' but did not have time to inspect. After landing I looked and there was my pillow still partially in the housing Life is not fair and there are no guarantees... -
Hmmm, so its ok for you to be mad, but not anyone else? interesting Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

Fuel the obvious evil person...wow thats left wide open...I promise if you try to figure me out your brain will hurt, but here is a hint from an older, more weathered person...if you don't want it to be used against you in the future, might be wisest not to post it on a widely viewed internet forum. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

Wow pretty harsh response to an outside observer, and since this is a public forum, I am pretty sure I get to say what I want so long as it isn't a personal attack. To which I will say, if you don't want a fight with this guy why keep giving him the ammo-just seems impractical to me. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

In the interest of fairness, you really didn't have to reply to him... And I think http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1834559#1834559 counts for dishing in my humble opinion. Back to your regularly scheduled drama...... Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

if you read up a few posts earlier, two lights can give two shadows, but there are no double shadows above the tub, the second leash just ends and there is no double of the hardware on the wall Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
-
flyangel, that was my point there is only one leash but two sets of shadows show your friend the picture, get her opinion as well Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
-
if the theory of two lights is correct for differing darkness -in particular the dark leash shadow over the lighter cat head, then why does the one shadow closest to us change degrees of darkness and not reflect the twist of the leash at the top? Edited to add, I dont see two sets of shadows in the upper portion of the picture, maybe the lights shut off up there Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
-
OK, I agree this is the look you get on some bathed cats. BUT the pic is definitely photoshoped. Exhibit A. You do not get the cat completely soaked from neck back and get no water anywhere on the head, not even if you try. (a halfway respectable groomer would bathe the whole cat anyway) Exhibit B. THe shadow gives it away....1-there is the shadow of two leashes and 2-since when do shadows have varying degrees of darkness? Exhibt C. Just my professional opinion, but that is the body of a small dog not a cat. And the baby foot thing...further proof children are aliens Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

Canopy Malfunction: Two Canopies Out, Biplane (with photos)
NtheSeaOrSky replied to SudsyFist's topic in Safety and Training
My thought would be the same as for the biplane, only unstow and fly the dominant canopy. I would hope it would go back to a biplane or downplane where a cutaway would be safer. No reason to mess with a stable configuration. Have you ever unstowed a toggle and let go and tried to pick it back up later? They like to trail behind and flap around and I could imagine this would get complicated or tricky. Maybe if I had a lot of Crew experience I might feel comfortable, but I myself think I would introduce some unneeded difficulty to the situation. EDITED TO ADD: Go back and look at the article again. In the section on side by sides, they cover some different results to unstowing all toggles! Life is not fair and there are no guarantees... -

NtheSeaOrSky replied to SudsyFist's topic in Safety and Training
I definately agree with what you are saying. Being in the self-preservation business, I prefer to get as much knowledge as I can. I can usually sort through the BS and if I get confused ask someone I trust. All instructors are not 'good' as you described. I was told by an instructor that in a biplane configuration, cutting away or keeping was my choice, whatever I was comfortable with...with no further explanation. Reading the article from PD I posted the link on helped me understand exactly what was going on and the 'science' behind it, I only wish I had been exposed to it BEFORE I got in the predicament and made a very risky decision. My thought pattern was logical with the information I had been given, but if I had known the alternative risks, it surely would have led to a different action. One-man downplane landing on Fort Bragg
NtheSeaOrSky replied to SkymonkeyONE's topic in Safety and Training
My two out happened secondary to pretty good line twists that twisted the risers and trapped the RSL line resulting in the RSL deploying the reserve. Pretty rare coincidence, probably, but nevertheless sometimes shit happens Life is not fair and there are no guarantees... -
Pssst sinker...you might want to put a few lines between the text and the sig lines, otherwise its kinda creepy! Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

Thanks Sudsy! Here is also an article published on PD's site I found useful as well http://www.performancedesigns.com/docs/dualsq.pdf The person I spoke with at PD when this was an issue for me said most people dont even need to PLF becasue the landings are very light. You should probably have someone test jump it for you before you use it . For your safety only, of course Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
