  1. Wow that is a pretty general stereotype of skydivers. I got to say, if anyone did research on my family, they would think I was not a member of it. Please do not contribute to the problem by making such stereotypes and assumptions. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  2. Not that this is going to go over well, but... You did the right thing staying away. When a dog is killing something it is running off pure instinct....doesnt matter to the dog much whether it is a cat or your arm, leg, head, etc. This particular breed has the 'jaws of death' The dogs bred for fighting (whether this one was actively fight training or not) do not always respond the same way as other dogs to our requests to cease their actions. A dog in the middle of an attack who perceives your actions to be that of an attack on him would not be a pleasant thing to be anywhere near! As hard as it was to watch, the cat was most likely killed instantly, I wont get into the details. I would let the owners know what you saw in an informative way..if their dog is dangerous they need to know (assuming they dont already). Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  3. I agree there are differences in people's culture, ethnicity, backgroud, and experiences which forms their belief system. I know everyone is not always going to get along, but the more we look past the 'im __ color', i was abused', 'i am homosexual', 'i am __ religion' and focus on the core attitudes such as 'i depend on myself', 'i expect to be taken care of'. 'the world revolves around me', 'i want to help out who I can', then a more productive dialogue can come about, with hopefully some understanding. I really think we are talking about the same thing. 4. I guess we just have differing views on it then. When I read the recount of your janitor experiences, I can relate to that...up until about 5 months ago, I was always the 'lowly one' I got the same reaction you did. When I got irritated with it, instead of volunteering what I did, I often skirted it or gave them such a broad answer they did not really know...forcing them to know (and presumably judge) me as a person first. I figured out when I surrounded myself with the non-elitest type attitudes, they never even asked...because it did not matter. ANd for the record, many elitest types I view as ignorant as well. I (maybe naively) still do not see a difference in the races. I see differences in people that traverse all races and ethnicities. I dont see this as sweeping it under the rug, I see it as focusing on the root of the problem...individuals mindset and beliefs..by taking out the irrelevant variables...afterall it is the attitude I would like to see changed not any physical attribute. Did that make any sense at all?? Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  5. Well apparently people will find a way to read into anything just what they want. I was clarifying my view on it. Blows my mind though how you take race out of the equation and look at everyone equal as people and upset people who still want race to be a separation
  6. Dearest Cliff, If you would take a minute to live in the real world, I changed the word 'black' to 'ignorant' because I wholeheartedly believe this is not a race issue. Since you seem to be unaware of how to use a dictionary, I will help you out some: ig-no-rant-adj.-1. Lacking education or knowledge. 2. Demonstrating a lack of education or knowledge. 3. Unaware or uninformed. If you took a moment to read my first post before attempting to place words in my mouth, you would see that I defended his actions based on the fact I believe he thought he was doing a good thing. I am ignorant as to what this is supposed to mean. (Bonus points for correct usage of the word of the day) Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  7. I see it as a hostile ignorant attitude. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  8. I am sure he thought he was doing a good thing. See what happens people when you dont know all the facts and start running off at the mouth Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  9. On our local news we have had several of the people relocate here after being in the shelter (superdome). As per their personal account on the news, the city did send busses in but people refused to go. Well thats all well and good, but really is not 'hard proof', but then I look at the people still in their homes, right now, refusing to leave and having to be forcibly removed...and I have to think, if that is not proof there really are people out there that DONT want to leave, even in the filth they are living in....how can that be ANYONE'S fault but there own?? 10. That depends, did you get a shock when you pressed the button??? Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  11. I have limited chinese experience but how about blue skies black death?? Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  12. I had a hard time recently with someone who was supposed to be a friend. I had already taken a lot and been used quite a bit. She damaged some of my property and when I called her to ask her what had happened she started in on personal attacks...and that be the end of that
  13. OK this is pretty good timing... My boss's boyfriend is a telephone guy. He was at a house installing DSL connection. He drilled a hole to the outside but when he tried to feed the cable outside, it kept going up the wall, so he went out to the truck to get the long rod thingy they use for this. He threaded into the house and went inside to find the guy laying on the floor holding his face. Apparently he decided he would 'watch him work' and got a good poke in the eye...well the corner of his eye-bridge of his nose! The guy was ok and when Brian returned to work, all his coworkers were wearing eyepatches! He still can not inderstand why the guy did that! Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  14. They will eventually....and when it takes 'too long' to organize and implement a reply...we can notify FEMA and they can hand them the definition of hypocrisy Edited to add: Well we could notify them if our communications hadn't been cut...wait...aren't we communicating now? How could that BE?!?! Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  15. They are trying to figure out how to still make it Bush's fault Talk about taking the wind out of the sails! Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  16. I just wanted to put my two cents in on this comment. While I wished the world worked that way, human nature does not allow it. I thought like this when I moved out to my farm....my own little space...I wont bother a soul and no one will bother me. I have gone out of my way to help people and where did it get me...threatened by people - even the people I was helping. It also got me arrested twice and in court once, not to mention all the emotional turmoil. I quit being nice, took the offensive and 8 months later, it is just as peaceful as can be, no more threats no more drama. In the begining I was minding my own business and got nothing but trouble, when I put out that the next person who attempted to hassle me was getting the brunt of it, everyone left me alone-guess no one really wanted to find out. 17. Well, if you buy into the theory that they are most likely criminals, and criminals (as we all know only go to jail to get free housing and food), then she might not be too far off Disclaimer for the sarcastic impaired.. At no time did I say I bought into this theory or shared the beliefs. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  18. You might just be surprised. Our brains try to warn us and play on our dislike of getting hurt. I thought I was gonna be a mess, too. THe anticipation of the jump was the worst, once I boarded the plane strangely enough, I became super calm and wathcing the ground disappear, it was like being home and the apprehension non existant. Even if this doesnt happen for you, once you exit and the brain switches to okay-now-i-got-to-focus-on-what-i-am-doing-here it will all be good Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  19. Then what is your concern with them? Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  20. I can see his point in that, you are SUPPOSED to have insurance and license, but does it really stop the person/teen who has keys in hand? It surely does not stop the immigrant workers here who have no lic. or ins. from driving and wrecking them. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  21. Well DUH, I have one on my couch And I know several people who have them as pets
  22. Here is the link to the video clip http://www.wimp.com/orleans I guess she did say she saw them, but there was nothing she could do about them, not that she did not see any My favorite is still the little boy with the pink shorts...you can see his thought process...'well so what I can still take em.......uh my friends might see this one day...better toss em down like I am disgusted and did not know they were pink...walk away quickly..walk away ' Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  23. I think the main reason it was a problem was because the officers in question were 'finding' shoes...not work shoes or tennis shoes...heels, dress shoes. Wonder how those taste...ask my dogs. The other items being 'found' in the video.....toy jeeps(does no one see the WATER EVERYWHERE), electronics (uh, works well with no electricity) and other non-essential or even practical items. Edited to add: When confronted by the news reporter about what she was doing there she left the shoe isle and wandered amongst the cat-who-ate-the-canary types 'finding' items saying she was looking for looters, but could not find any. 24. Skydiving related injuries or all injuries...well does not really matter...lesson learned: its the sudden stop and the ground is hard. Edited to add.. except the horse kick to the abdomen, melon sized hematoma later...mares are bad news Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...
  25. I did say 'the same rules apply' to the BASE jumpers in the instance they could not pay..hence they are treated no differently than anyother type of person that can't pay. I hope you are not saying they should not pay because not everyone else can pay. That would be like me telling the hospital, well I am not paying my bill because not all your customers can pay their bills. For arguement's sake, it is still giving when you lose something arguably more important while giving? Does that make the gift less than a gift? I do not profess to know the exact intricacies of all the reasons incurring the war. Last I checked no one on this forum had that level of security clearance...and if they did what are they gonna say...nothing. For every opinion there is an equal and opposite one (heh, yes I know I just made this up, but it has a lot of truth in it), which always makes for a debate. I just ask that you (not anyone in particular) be open to the possibility that there are people making decisions somewhere who know more than you do and thus may make decisions you might view as wrong.
