bill-I would expect if there were a discounted memorial type situation, there would be rules, such as no advertising/product names that would constitute what a memorial is. bytch-I didn't say I had all the answers, I just offered up a few suggestions on how it might be considered. As for the companies with little advertising budget, well I can assure you my personal advertising buget is MUCH smaller than theirs! They have no sympathy from me in that regard. Every sales oriented company has advertising built in to their business plan, and there are more ways to increase that than to cut jobs and raise prices, but that is a business decision for each company to make. They don't have to advertise in the magazine, there are other publications, other venues, so it isnt like anyone is making them. Nick-I didnt mean to sidetrack your thread and for that I apologize. Best of luck!

I didnt say they should be free, that was not my point. My point was there is no consideration that these are individuals-skydivers who are placing the memorials, not a company with an advertising budget for such things and who stands to profit. Give them a call and see how much the page would cost, I hope you and your 'few friends' are wealthy. One way could be to mark up the advertising fee and decrease the memorial fee to help offset the cost of printing. Maybe offer a separate section for memorials so as not to impinge on 'ad' space. These are just a few ideas, but I would hope they could come up with a compromise, instead of sending a form letter stating that 'it is the way it is and we have never done it in the past so we arent doing it now'. Yes, I agree the incidents are a valuable learning tool, but in my opinion the memorial pages serve an important purpose as well...I am sure others agree, or we wouldn't see any. As far as value per dollar of dues, I could write a novel on that, but suffice to say everyones values are different and so will be their views on their dollar spent. My view is my dollars are better spent on what matters to me and supporting that kind of 'business ethic' is not. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

I used to enjoy reading it....until I learned that the memorial pages for skydivers, the people who ARE this industry...are the same price as an advertisement from a company with an advertising budget and a potential gain in profit. Tacky, distastefull and a slap in the face...in my opinion anyway. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

During my student progression, most of the weekends had winds that were too high for jumping, so I rented a rig for the day and had an experienced friend who I told 'fuck this up' I left the room and came back and tried to pack it. Yeah boring for most, but what else was I going to do-I couldn't jump! I found a LOT of mistakes (he induced of course) and one was a step through. If the canopy is flipped through, when you run your hands up the risers and lines lines from the rig to the canopy the lines will be twisted at the end instead of straight (imagine a spiral). There can also be a side-through where one side will be twisted and the other not. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

I don't think Mr. Sudsy has any trouble in the getting laid department And lighten up everyone! If you notice these were modeling guidelines...my guess is most of you women wouldn't show up to take a portrait with your hair a muss, your teeth dirty, without makeup and generally a mess.....same for the beaver..if you want it to look nice in photos, better present it nice for crying out loud our man is a photographer not a magician!!!! It may be my lack of sleep, but what is he being punished for? It is important to realize dogs do not correlate 'time outs' as a punishment - especially after the fact - there are only two seconds between the 'act' and its repercussions that they actually associate the two. Also, former abused animals are a bit different than one who has never seen an unkind hand. You will get MUCH further with them for rewarding the good things - no matter how little - than punishing for the intermittent bad ones. Once the puppy learns what good things are, the bad stuff kinda disappears off on its own. If you have particular questions, feel free to PM me and I will share more with you! Good luck and congratulations on your new pup! Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

I am no insurance expert by any means, but in certain areas (barrier islands, areas below sea level) and ESPECIALLY those types lcoated in hurricane prone areas the chance of destruction is really quite high. If it were really up to the insurance companies to pay out if something happened, they would certainly lose out more often than not. As is really works now, the gov't pays for the reconstruction and loss for major events such as a hurricane, not like a small windstorm. for example: Bill Gates builds a house on the NC barrier islands. He does not insure it...hurricane blows in and levels the island. Damages to the island exceed the 9 mil required for fed assistance. Bill and his neighbors get new houses on the gov't (and my) penny. Say he has insurance. Damages are still in excess, insurance companies bow out and gov't foots the bill. So if Mr Bill wants to build a house in the target zone for a hurricane, he should be expected to foot the bill should a hurricane damage it - in my eyes anyway. I misunderstood what you said then, I took it as you meaning that the insurance companies would want to insure those areas to make money...and I think it would be a sizeable business gamble if they did.(since they would most likely lose money) I think if you build a million dollar house (or any house really) on say a barrier island, it should be your responsibility to rebuild if there is damage, not the insurance company or the government. If you can not afford to live there - don't. But, here in the real world Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

Quote>Hopefully, the Insurance Co's. will put an end to this idiocy by refusing to write policies. Why would they do that? They are a business like any other; why should they pass on an opportunity to make money? *** I think the point was if you are in tornado alley, on a barrier island, 12 foot below sea level in a hurricane prone area, etc. the insurance companies would stand to LOSE money, not make it, statistically speaking. I just wonder what is going through Nagin's head right now, must be tough knowing if you had gotten your way you would have killed more of your people. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

Now since you told me you are dying, am I required to try and save you, or do I look the other way and whistle innocently (and loudly so no one hears your death groans) ???

You know, and there are worse ways to die than getting a blow job! Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

So true! In general it just seems like the big 'debates/arguements' boil down to the responsibility thing. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

I can sleep anywhere and through anything (hurricane once)....now occasionally when the Army base next door has their extreme night activity I have 'dreams' about crashing planes, bombs and carnage, but nonetheless sound asleep through it all. Life is not fair and there are no guarantees...

OK because you asked so nicely...here is your spoon: Group of 20 senior citizens won't leave the senior home in Galveston because "this building is NOT going to fall" even when being urged strongly by law enforcement. Are they responsible for themselves or are we responsible for them because they can not make their own decisions???? And, well, you know where the shit can be found Stir away!
