  1. And would have spared the country from the Kennedy presidency in 1960. Just think what the world would look like if Nixon had bombed the hell out of Hanoi in 1962 or Kissenger was there to deal with the Bay of Pigs.
  2. So the +/- 66% of the world's population who is not Christian goes to Hell. Thanks for clearing that up for us. No, I think the protestants go there too.
  3. You left out mentally ill rambler who caught the attention of a primitive and superstitious population who was susceptible to messianic figures due to their religious background combined with their occupied status. A distinct possibility I think.
  4. You guys have people going to trial for possession of marijuana? Barbarians. No wonder people do whatever they can to avoid jury duty; what a colossal waste of time.
  5. The most important thing to remember is that the FAA is not going to relinquish their control so a PIA or USPA rating would be a redundant and useless expense; kind of like the USPA tandem instructor rating.
  6. That was my first thought. Did he actually sign a pardon order, or just announce he was going to pardon him?
  7. I don't think "going green" is part of the malaise. It may well be a necessary part of the technology needed for further leaps. 1/2 ton trucks that sleep six and a body of law that sees retailers lower the temperature of hot beverages to avoid litigation on the other hand are both symptom and cause of a society that has lost their way. The price of egalitarian empowerment is that without natural leadership the herd tends to mill about in confusion with a tendency for short abrubt stampedes in random directions. The messianic flavour of the Obama phenomenon is an example of this. Whether he will turn out to be a natural leader or a short abrupt stampede we shall soon see. The heights of 1969 were replaced by the stagnation of the 1970s amazingly quickly. The progress of the eighties (when computer and materials science made the gains that made the last twenty years' consumption gains possible) was just as abrubt, but maybe it was just a dead cat bounce. For society to truly progress the individual members will have to be committed. So far it seems people just want Obama to "make it better" so they can get back to Oprah. Obama has lectured the black community to quit whining and get the fuck to work. Even though he is uniquely entitled to do so it still pissed a lot of people off. Now he needs to do the same for the rest of the country. We will see how that works out. For it to work they have to buy in.
  8. Have you read "The Satanic Verses?" Similar theme.
  9. So this guy is going to try to convince a jury that a tort was committed by United by giving him too much service. UNITED! Good luck with that.
  10. I was pretty little. I think I was more taken by the fact that they had to eat turkey sandwiches on Christmas than by the view.
  11. why does any belief structure have to gain universal acceptance? i don't give a fuck what other peoples' beliefs are and all i ask is that other people extend me the courtesy of not giving a fuck what my beliefs are. Really? Bin Laden seems to believe that America is evil and must be destroyed. You sure you don't give a fuck what he believes?
  12. Historically consolidation of religion has occurred in a similar fashion to consolidation of biker gangs; the leadership of the weaker group is butchered and the followers cut their losses. The best way to convince people to adopt your belief structure is to dominate them militarily on a long term basis.

I have never met either lady, but judging by the pictures I've seen watching them do anything seems like a pleasant activity.
  14. Those of us who have put childish pursuits behind us remain hopeful that the only belief structure that can possibly gain universal acceptance one day will.
  15. Is there a problem with riggers in the field? When was the last fatality that was contributed to by rigger errors?
  16. That's what insurance is for. Otherwise it would be "you didn't do a shoulder check? no insurance claim for you, stupid" "you went skydiving? pay your own hospital bills, stupid."
  17. It didn't look like he could reach above the student's leg to cut. Cutting below the leg may or may not have released the hitch. I think I would have tried it to see.
  18. It is tough to say from the vid what the level of communication was between them.
  19. I get your drift, but I disagree with it. If you buy nothing from abroad, it is certain that no one can buy anything from you. Shutting down world trade is what made the depression of 80 years ago.
  20. That's funny - we've been told over and over by the right that CEOs must have huge compensation packages or they won't be motivated. No, we have been told that CEOs need huge compensation packages or they will go elsewhere.
  21. Cut and Pasted from the incidents forum: Well my practical solution would be to convert all your student gear to BOC and abandon main ripcords all together. However if you are insisting on keeping them a few spares with a deposit charged on them to all freefall students should keep costs down. Are you using a reserve style ripcord (steel with a metal handle) or plastic ones with a pilot chute style handle. These are considerably cheaper.
  22. MOVE! You need to get away from people who make you think smoking is normal. Good luck.
  23. Things I find annoying and as a white middle aged male I have a right to have repressed: 1. Christianity 2. Country music 3. Cigarettes 4. Treating a yield sign like a stop sign. 5. The Washington Redskins or people expressing approval of them. 6. Bigotry 7. The Dutch.
  24. The Canadian gov really has no choice. Approximately 20% of the big three's activity is in Ontario and the US money no doubt will be directed to save US jobs. If we didn't participate the first 20% of the jobs to be lost would be in Ontario. Since Canada has approximately 10% the population of the US, the economic impact of the big three is twice as important in Canada as it is in the US in terms of labour.
  25. My parachute, my computer (a Mac), my i-pod, and my car are all built in North America. More importantly the software I run, the movies I watch, the food I eat, and the fuel I burn are dominated by North American content.
