As the Solo is a relatively new canopy it will be hard to find DZs with Solos with a lot of jumps on them. Alberta Skydivers puts about 100-150 jumps/year on theirs but they are only two years old. My experience with them is that although they open and land very well, they are much too aggressive in a turn for a student canopy. The recovery arc is very short but the rate of descent during a full glide turn is, in my opinion, unacceptable. We had a brand new Solo demo for a while this year and eventually decided that, on balance, we liked the seven year old Navigator better. That is a canopy that has demonstrated a great combination of flight characteristics and durability.

I have to disagree with you there. You are suggesting that all naturalized citizens be 'on probation' for life. There is no seniority list for citizens nor should there be. Once we let someone into the club, they are in the club unless they decide to leave. Besides, the behavior these people are displaying is perfectly in line with Canadian values; university students, gay activists, labour unionists, Christian refugee advocates do this sort of thing all the time. We do not live in the US, we do not send in the swat team every time there is civil disobedience in a case like this. The fact is you would be mildly annoyed if these were white, old stock, Christian Canadians but it infuriates you because they are brown. I suppose you thought the Army should have just mowed down the Natives at Oka. I was pissed too at the time, but they proved we can settle these things without violence. We just need a little patience.

I can't find any reports of a riot. Civil disobedience and riots are two very different things. Most of the people there were likely citizens. You should know that born citizens and naturalized ones are equal in Canada; they can't be deported. For those non-citizens who were there, if there was in fact a riot, yes they should face an immigration hearing. What I saw on the video was a peaceful demonstration much like the kind you see on the streets of Vancouver every day for a ridiculous array of causes, and much more lawful and peaceful than your average labour picket; shit they weren't even blocking traffic. That said it pisses me off that religious types think they can use their delusion centre as a sanctuary from the law. The Jesus people did the same thing in the hoity toity side of Van for a couple of months a few years back. You can bet your bottom dollar the cops didn't break down the doors of St. Andrew's

I've watched the video of that interview several times, and I'm not seeing anything that looks even close to crying. In fact, she appears to give a very composed answer to the woman's question. I guess I'm just missing it, but if it's that subtle, then it doesn't seem newsworthy to me. Though I'm not surprised that the media would make a big deal out of nothing. The press wants blood. The media are always accused of favouring one candidate or another during elections, but what I have seen over the years is that they really just want drama. Election coverage is often compared to that of a horse race, but really it is more like a Grand Prix; if Lucy's Mistake and Stargazer are neck and neck for eleven months people will get bored and look away. What the press wants to show you is Alonzo running over his pitt crew and losing a lap. We need Fissicella and Raikonnen crashing spectacularly, Massa making a bold move on the inside wall only to tag the wall and fall back, Hamilton to smoothly make his move outside; we want PASSING dammit!

No, you are just looking at a higher tier of used gear than the 'rock bottom' that others are quoting. As for long term costs, 100 jumps a year will cost you 2000-2500 (and rising), gear reserve packing and maintenance will be 150-300 per year. Everything else is optional.

Incorrect. It is a Value Added Tax- it applies to (in its purest state) all consumption; Dentist bills, mechanic's labour, skydiving tickets, everything. It is a very complex tax. Every business must pay it on all their inputs and then pay on the value added for their outputs (x% of the final price minus what they have already paid to their suppliers).

I am not sure that is true. For years I used a bonehead open faced helmet for doing tandems so I could talk to and hear my student under canopy. Last year a riser slap removed my optima from my helmet so I switched to my Z1. I actually found I can hear better, even before I raise my visor I can hear the student just fine.
