  1. Tell him the whole "miles" thing has you really confused.
  2. The power to decide who pays is very great. The power to encourage people to spend in certain ways (for tax consideration) is also great.
  3. Where in the constitution does the government gain the mandate to abrogate said rights? I don't disagree that the state must maintain the ability to restrict the actions of its citizens, but is it not a flaw in the constitution that there is no mechanism? Has this flaw not led to a general lawlessness within the government? Has this flaw not allowed the executive branch to trample over the rights the constitution is there to protect with nothing anyone can do about it except wait for the next election (a remedy that has proved futile in a large number of countries)?
  4. Shouldn't that be spelled out in the constitution then? Otherwise the powers that be could (for example) make a habit of finding ways to take large numbers of a group not aligned with the status quo and give them a criminal record. That way they could keep them from voting.
  5. I don't understand. I thought rights were 'inalienable;' it is beyond the scope of the government to deny or infringe upon them in any way.
  6. Are you required by law to wear a tuque while eating it? No, but why wouldn't you?
  7. I'll have you know that I'm chewing on a great chicken burro I got in Calgary yesterday. BTW When i want good Mexican food I go to Mexico.
  8. If that is the incident they are talking about, then OK. I remember that one and have seen the video. I guess a tandem vid could be 'jumping out after your student.' I didn't make the connection.
  9. That would seem appropriate, but really, you gonna put a cop or a lawyer in jail over an Indian? It always seems to be an Indian.
  10. In Canada there have been a few high profile cases. Usually they come combined with a finding of wrongdoing by the police or Crown Council (DA). In those cases there is usually a large cash settlement. Without a finding of actual wrongdoing I don't know if the victim gets anything more than an apology. The sad thing about the Canadian cases is that the victims are usually so mal-socialized by the time they get out that they end up being re-arrested not that much later.
  11. I call bullshit on the skydiver and the golf ball.
  12. Fuck! You got a reckless driving for going 84 in a 65? You must be brown. Bummer dude.
  13. I think it is funny that the violence is linked to the drug trade and gang violence by everyone, but then it is pointed out that guns were involved. Having the victims stabbed would probably not be any more pleasant for them. Of course, there will always be criminals. It used to be alcohol, now it is drugs. It will be something else later. The point is that until the last ten years or so guns really were a bit player in murder methods in Canada. As the role of organized crime rises in our murder statistics, so does the role of guns. Other than gangsters we rally don't use guns for much more than hunting.
  14. But,....it's tradition at my house; OK It happened once and I'm trying to establish it as tradition.
  15. Uh, 'cause the game was meaningless.
  16. Then give him his during the game, you'll get yours later.
  17. Wouldn't that remove ownership from being a right? Wouldn't that make it a privilege that you have to earn, and could be denied by the government? Just asking.
  18. I am so happy for you now that you have achieved perfection. Does this extend to your entire life or just to skydiving? I have been hit by three camera-flyers while doing tandem. One was inexperienced and was allowed into the rotation against my wishes, one had reasonable jump experience and was learning camera, and the other had 6000+ jumps including 2000 tandems and about 1000 video jumps. There is no such thing as adding a person to the mix and adding zero risk.
  19. Don't even joke about that shit. My ears have been ringing for 24 years.
  20. Get their address and send them a registered letter demanding they cease and desist.
  21. That's right. The rules don't apply to them. They land after the rest of the load and have the right of way otherwise. They land in the direction most likely to give their students a soft, safe landing.
  22. I am looking at the weather maps trying to decide whether I am driving for 1 hr, 4 hrs, or 12 hrs and two passes for New Years.
  23. We went through a phase at a DZ I worked on where newer jumpers were encouraged to buy 7-cell canopies. The results of that experiment seemed to be that most of those canopies were up for sale fairly soon and replaced with a 9-cell. The 7-cell has its place and there is a group of jumpers who swear by them. If I was going to buy a 7-cell it would definitely be a Spectre. The truth is however, that most people prefer the increased performance afforded by the higher aspect ratio 9-cells. Put at least fifty jumps on your canopy, if you still don't like it sell it and get the Saphire. The spectre will have a good resale value so you shouldn't lose.
  24. Musharraf is very unpopular. Bhutto was very popular. AQ would rather have an unpopular president than a popular one. I really don't think it is all that clear cut who did this.
