  1. Everything we're discussing is an anomaly. A mass shooting is an anomaly. Psychopaths, Sociopaths, and other headcases are anomalies. Violent felons are anomalies. However, when discussing the topic of mass shootings and other mass killings, the norm is for the murder to choose a location where victims cannot defend themselves. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  2. The case of Buford Furrow proves you wrong. THere area other cases of criminals, even ones of low intelligence and major physicatric issues, choosing soft targets. Furrow passed on two targets that were defended and chose a DAY CARE CENTER, which was a gun free zone until someone intent on ignoring laws against murder decided to ignore the law on "no guns here" as well. Lower body count at Va Tech, was it Quade? Really, it's been asked but never answered on the boards. How many mass murders happen at gun shows? Police rallies? etc. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  3. What a nice glorification. The most of "them" do this to have a job, to get paid even w/o having a chance on employment market. They're recruited to the army by professionals ... you know better than me. Wow. You managed to piss on those serving and ignore the argument all in one. That's something even for you. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  4. So much for those equal rights for everyone. "You have the right to think and to say anything you want, as long as you agree with me." Standard belief system for people with his point of view. edit: spelling witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  5. The bigger questions is, if the military doesn't trust its well trained members to carry fire arms, why should we trust university students to carry on campus? The difference is that the men and women of the armed forced signed up and agreed to give up many of their most important rights to serve the nation. They agreed to limits on their speech, their right to arms, their right to go where they please when they please, and many others. They do this to serve the rest of us. However, college kids and all other non-sworn non-military citizens have made no such agreement. You are looking at things exactly backwards. Do you really trust the government more than you do the everyday citizen? For the record I am not a fan of victim disarmament zones, a.k.a. "gun free zones." They're only gun free until someone feels like breaking the law. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  6. My response: disable him by any and all means if he's still standing and armed/shooting, take custody if he's not. Of course, I have the advantage of knowing that it's happening before I get there, body armor, firearms (plural) including a long gun, and dozens of friends coming with similar advantages. My advice to my wife, who does not have those advantages? Run like hell if you can, hide behind cover in the most secure room you can find if you can't. Do not look for somebody to play hero. There might be some brave souls who will try to jump/stop/attack the shooter, but I don't want her around when they do. If he comes near her hiding place, wait until he walks into the funnel and shoot him. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  9. You realise this article is in reference to their version of SWAT. These are the guys they call on to handle the worst of the worst. They train constantly and shoot with the best of them. If you can't trust them with guns, who can you trust? (the answer, if you hate guns, is no one other than a soldier who is overseas) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  10. So what does a prior victimization have to do with treatment for a new condition not related to a prior incident? I (unfortunately) have BCBS through my employer. They certainly never asked me about prior violent encounters. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  12. I think we all agree that the discipline was ridiculous in this case. But kallend, let's get our facts straight. The principal suspended the boy, not the school board. The board may have extended the length of time and is in control of the school assignment, but the school personnel failed first and foremost. It's a boy with a new toy. He brought it to school because he was proud of it. Anyone who's owned one knows eating with it is a pain, and cleaning it afterwards is worse. Is it really any more dangerous than a pencil, or scissors, or any of a dozen other items in every school across the country? Does simply having it with you require assignment to reform school? And do they even haev first grader reform school? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  13. So does yours and McDrees, though I doubt you see it. It may surprise you, but criminals are not the sort of folks who rise to the occasion or live up to your greatest expectations. Breaking and entering is bad. Most who do that will fuck like hell if they find the house is occupied. Anyone who does not either (A) thinks they can overcome the resident or (B) is there to target the resident. He doesn't know what the felon thinks, but it's reasonable to NOT assume the very best of them. Some of them can go from burglary to home invasion to some sort of personal violent felony very quickly. I don't know about you, but if all my deterents fail, I take action. If I have time and disatnce, call police and then very clearly and loudly announcing that I am armed and willing to defend myself. If they run, let someone else catch them. If they stay, they can chose between responding officers weapons and mine. If they attack, I win. You see, it's not that everyone who owns a gun is just waiting for a chance to go out and shoot someone. I think you'll find most who own a gun hope to God they never have to shot someone. But they know that someday it may be required of them. I simply refuse to place myself at the mercy of felons. Defining "reasonable" takes a surprising large number of unreasonable men and women an unreasonable amount of time to define. They are call juries. You don't have the luxury of waiting for them to decide before you defend yourself. Also, you'll find that simple concepts like "last resort" are not so easy to define, either. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  14. I'm just glad the article got it right. The scumbag burglar was referred to as suspect throughout, and the swordsman was referred to as student and victim. An incident like this you almost expect some jackass to call the sword swinger a suspect for homicide. To suspect: good riddance To student: Thank you witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  15. Bill, I've enjoyed, and stolen, many of your one liners, but now I get to throw one of them back at you. The man is all for banning as many firearms as he can get away with, do you disagree? Besides, part of their actions include their past voting record, don't you think? So how is Obama's record on guns and private property, hmmm, let's think real hard on this one... witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  16. Well, if they kept the animals-in-human-flesh (prisoners) in cages(solitary confinment), all day there would be no assaults and no rapes. Would that make you happy, do you want everyone in prison to sit in solitary for their entire sentence? Or would you rather they be allowed to eat, congregate, and exercise together. If you prefer them not to sit in solitary for years at a time, and recognizing that these are violent and non-law abiding folks, then you must recognize that some level of lawlessness is going to happen in prison. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  17. AH HA!! So those were just poor gypsy bedouins, huddled in their shack on the side of the road. And that person with what looks like a wheelbarrow? That was just a poor mother pushing her babies to the market in a carriage, who stopped to get a drink of water out of the ditch. And those evil capitalist American dogs had their Afghani boot licking pigs blow these innocent muslim people to pieces with an aircraft bomb for no reason! Death to America and the US Loving Afghani Regime!!! witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  18. I figured, but the further south I go, the less attention I pay to Canadian criminal law. Honestly I care more about video reply consideration in Tornoto than I do legislative action. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  19. A select fire "Evil Black Rifle" is readily available in Canada? Or were you thinking of the Tavor Carbine (T.C. 21) which is semi-auto only? (though I wouldn't mind that, I'd absolutely love to get my hands on a TAR-21) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  20. An attempt to get a simple answer from christelkraut: (aka quest for the holy grail) Do you think it is reasonable to make swords illegal? A simple "yes" or "no" should suffice. If yes, why? If no, we agree. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  22. Whoopie. Tobacco smoke is not particularly harmful either. However, cigarettes, rolling paper, and other assorted accessories have dangerous substances in them that will cause cancer (according to studies). And since most marijuana is smoked out of rolling paper, emptied blunts, or in a bowl or bong with a bic-style light, they get all the nasty side effects that tobacco smokers get. Of course, there have been studies that show drinking orange juice causes cancer, so take from them what you will... witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  23. Similar setup, but mine is a S&W 4566 TSW .45 cal. Not my first choice, but it is issued, and I can practice with it for free, so I keep it on hand. Not the easiest to conceal, but for the reason above it's my carry gun. I use the multivault. The Remington 870 has it's own secured place. Didn't gunvault used to make one for long guns that covered the trigger and port but nothing else, with the same 4 button access? Sound like that might be an idea for you. My 870 run on a strict diet of Polyshok rounds. I don't feed it anything else unless required for training or work. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  24. People, don't blame the democrats (or our local Q-man). This is symptomatic of our government on both sides of the aisle (if you think the aisle actually indicates a difference anymore). Most people are suprised, but government nowadays can shut down just about anything, including your mobile phones, radios, homes phones, electricity, water, local road access, all interstate highways, and anyhting else you think you are entitled to. The title of this thread is most accurate, and has nothing to do with party affiliation. Folks, we traded away freedom for security a long time ago. Do we have either anymore? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  25. (A) Just because you're paranoid, that doesn't mean they're not out to get you. (B) It's a joke if you think you can keep people out of the average home or apartment. I'm not an exceptional specimen, but I can kick in most doors on the second strike. I know because I've done it more than once. If I can't kick it in, there is always a sledge hammer or the big black key-to-the-city (police ram). And that's only because I am determined to go through a door. Windows are a weak point. Anyone can smash a window and crawl through. ALso, in just about every townhouse and apartment complex in the area, a person can knock through a wall with a simple claw hammer. It's just drywall and some 2x4s or 1x3s. I've only ever seen one apartment complex that is B+E proof. Every wall is cinder block, metal doors are mounted on steel frames, and windows are some kind of safety polymer that cranks out but does not open. The only weak spot is above the ceilings (accessed by attic hatches). I only know about that because there was a series of B+Es in the complex and every apartment but one was hit in several buildings. The ones not broken into were occupied by scum and associates of scum. The badguys were going up in the attic and dropping down into other folks apartments, and leaving the same way. Overall, an alarm is fine as a deterent, but dogs are better. Both are only good for waking you up if a determined crook wants in. Once they are in, it's up to you. FYI - I have a small yippy dog, a big scary sounding dog, an alarm, and tools necessary to defend my family. edit to add: the police patrol car parked across the street, the highway patrol SUV parked next door, and the deputy's cruiser around the corner help, too. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
