  1. Just another source for information: http://www.scotusblog.com/movabletype/archives/2007/07/second_amendmen.html And for those of you allergic to FOXNews, the AP has articles on this subject as well. http://wtopnews.com/?nid=596&sid=1190227 witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  2. Jon, if anything, hope springs eternal that the same old tired (and constitutionally questionable) methods will work, even though they haven't worked for thirty years. So how can they claim that the ban saved lives when they are one of the most dangerous cities in the country, and most of the (criminal) deaths there are by firearms? Still waiting fot the answer to that one. The article also leave out the fact that since no new licenses are issued, it is a de facto ban on all onwership. ps - criminals are still exempt from requirements to register their guns, so registration, once again, practically and legally, only applies to law abiding citizens. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  7. Yes, but "assault weapons" look scary, and people confuse them with full automatic machine guns, so it's easier to ban them and pretend you're making a diffreence and geting tough on crime, even though "assault weapons" are used in so few crimes that it's a joke to anyone who reads up on the subject. See pictures below for how "assault weapons" are defined. The ban is based on cosmetic features, not on rate of fire or strength or utility of ammunition. To illustrate the point, consider the three following posts. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=983475#983475 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=984085#984085 http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=984172#984172 witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  11. Actually, I tend to abhor attention whores of all sorts. Just the other day I was making, ahem ...disparaging remarks... about a person who is staunchly pro-gun. I did so because his methods and choice of words reflected poorly on other pro-gun people, and it wasn't an honest mistake. He was doing it to get his name in the paper. So tell me Bill, did I shit on him because he's pro-gun and I don't like his views on the topic? ps - there are plenty of moms who are VERY pro-Bush and make comments like "stay the course," for papers and newsies. They (A)aren't as effective at grabbing the spotlight as Sheehan and (B) are also attacked/criticized on a regular basis. I'm not disgusted by it. They went from greiving to advocating a political policy. When you do that, people tend to disagree with you. I'm just not a fan of stupid people tricks to keep your name in the headlines. pps - it kind of irritates me to hear comments that boil down to "I'm done here," breathe a sigh of relief, and then hear "But I'm running for office." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  15. Would this be the same woman who was upset that her little soiree wasn't being covered because a hurricane happened to be battering the coast? Would this be the same woman who believes that the twin towers fell because of a controlled demolition? Would this be the same woman who is going to sue Steve Nadeau claiming he hasn't paid up, basically because he didn't give enough? Would this be the same woman who faced charges of antisemitism? Of course she has to run in Pelosi's district. It's the only one insane enough to vote for a freakshow like her. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  16. Can you please explain how you could make a connection between "lack of political correctness" and being a convicted serial perjurer? What Bill Clinton has shown is that he is completely unqualified to be a public official of any kind whatsoever. To condone Clinton's actions shows utter contempt for the USA, the Constitution, and the rule of law. To even consider voting for a douchebag like Clinton is pretty pathetic, even for righties. Perjury is a high crime against our system of law. To condone perjury in any way is completely against everything that America stands for. Have you no shame? No sense of right and wrong? The USA is in a world of hurt because the lefties have been fucking things up since LBJ was in office. The war on the middle class has been wildly successful. The Democratss are very proud of their success. I could do the same thing for just about any politician. Should I use Hillary Clinton next? McCain? Romney? Feinstein? Ted Kennedy is too easy. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  21. Actually, I was wondering when a Brady-nut gun-controller was going to open fire on a crowded school or mall, just to show how easy it is, and how we need more laws to stop it. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  22. Put him on the docket right between Mayor Bloomburg's straw purchasers from Virginia and Sarah Brady for her straw purchase for her son (I think in Delaware). Funny how people who want more gun laws seem to go out and break the ones that already exist. I wonder if more laws would stop them. I know more laws won't stop the criminals. ps - add the politicians who routinely voilate concealed carry laws to the end of that docket. Boy, this is shaping up to be a busy court calendar. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  23. Wendy, once again I have to wonder why people are all THAT worried about what tool/weapon was used in an assault, robbery, murder, etc. Would someone rather be robbed with a knife than a gun? Does being killed by a hammer make you any less dead? And while you're comparing gun crime numbers across borders, it would stand to reason that availability of guns will have some influence on the number of gun crimes, but it is important to compare the overall number of violent crimes across borders as well. That tends to be a far more relevant number when discussing the prevalence and probability of crime. And while we're talking about the illegal ways guns are used in the USA, I sometimes find it interesting to include how guns are used legally here in the states. That would include generating billions to travel and transportation industries in revenue due to travelling for hunting, competition, and other events, as well as the money spent on guns and ammo, and accessories, but I have to admit my favorite is mentioning just how many times guns are used to stop a crime.* * - that would be somewhere between eight hundred thousand and 3.6 million times every year, with the best scientific study coming up with 2.14 million per year. read before flaming http://www.gunsandcrime.org/dgufreq.html http://www.guncite.com/gun_control_gcdguse.html http://www.guncite.com/kleckandgertztable1.html http://www.saf.org/journal/11Kleck.pdf witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  24. Finding a good site for wind is not easy. And you need fairly constant winds to generate the kind of power you need to run a home. Solar is no piece of cake like people think, but by and large it seems to be more appropriate to single family homes. I'm sure BillVon or someone equally enlightened can point you in the right direction. (I'm surprised when peole know what a greywater system is, but BVill acutally HAS one) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  25. I was thinking about your question; if I were a cop and worked the same department as that officer, would I want him to back me up. Well, here's the thing... when a cop goes into a situation, he has to be in control. Not just of himself, but of the entire situation. That's the way it has to go down, period. That's why it's against the law to resist cops. It's not that telling an authority figure "no" or "go fuck yourself" is so terrible in and of itself. It's that there aren't enough cops to physically outnumber and over power every situation a cop goes into. Cops need to be able to run the show, no matter how many players are involved. The old "One Riot, One Ranger" concept. The other option is to have a true police state, where cops outnumber everyone else, always, and any violation, no matter how small, with no escalation, leads to beatins, re-eduation camps, and so on. (think a cross between 1984, Brave New World, Nazi Germany, and V for Vendetta) So, as you may understand but others obviously don't, a cop responding to a scene has to remain in control, not because he's some sort of control freak, or because he gets off on bossing people around, but because that's his job and there's no other way to do it. To answer your question, if I were a cop and needed back up, I'd take who ever would show up to help. Lord knows there are few enough people who run towards danger. If I were there, and things were so bad I needed more than one cop, I'd take anyone brave enough to wear a badge for help. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
