  1. Well, I'm no German and I'm no lawyer, and I kow very little about German law, but I do know that in most places, consipiracy to commit crime is a crime. It falls under the category of inchoate offences. I've never heard of scenting before, and the dogs in my local law enforcement agencies tend to use disturbed area rather than scent to track. I can see how leaving your scent behind can be construed as abandoned property, so you have no expectation of privacy, but like I said I don't know the particulars over there. To me, it sounds like they are aggressively pursuing investigations of conspiracy to commit crimes, and using the tools they have to prevent damage, injury, and death from occurring. Would anyone here prefer they leave the nice little rioters and firebombers alone until something or someone goes up in flames? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  3. OK boys and girls, here is your assignment. You know that groups of people are planning violence vandalism and worse, and you know where. They have done it before and have stated they plan to do it again. You have placed all the physical security you can at the target site (fences, guards, dogs, etc). You know from experience that physical security endangers protesters and your personnel. Do you (A) keep tabs on the people who are planning to commit crime and arrest them if you get probably cause, or (B) let them commit the crime and then try to find and arrest them after the damage and injury has already happened? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  5. Wow, professor have you ever considered that posting an article like the second one might actually convince far more people? The first one is like so much propaganda and "this is what you should think" drivel that infests the internet and inboxes. The second offers background and informs the readers about upcoming events. I once heard it said that military press is to journalism what a military band is to music. Well, seeing as the military bands whose shows I've been priviledged to attend have been traditional, stirring, tastful, skilled, and relevant, while most music, especially the popular "artists" are filth and drivel, I couldn't agree more. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  6. OK, no one died, so the who "kill people" thing is a strange choice for a title. As far as shooting himself, anyone who has seen was a .223 does to living tissue knows that 1/2 inch or less of penetration is not getting shot. The "idiot" comment, well, you'll get no argument on that one. What people need to understand, that John alluded to, is that a casing (the brass 'container' part of ammunition) is not strong enough to contain or direct the force or the powder going off. The chamber or a firearm (steel walls where the ammunition sits before being fired) are what make the gun function. They contain the force of the combustion (there is no explosion in modern firearms), meaning that the path of least reisistance is forcing the bullet (the projectile) through the barrel. When a round of ammunition goes off outside a chamber (or in the wrong size chamber) the force is not contained or directed, so the brass is forced out of shape, peeling open along weak points, and the bullet tends to land four or five feet away (or in the case of incorrect caliber firearms, the bullet can lodge in the barrel - a big problem). In this idiots case (no pun intended) the vice may have contained some of the force, but the brass is still too weak to direct to bullet. Hence the pop, minimal penetration, and Darwin failing to do his duty. I think it was the NTSA who did a study with SAAMI's help in regards to shipping ammunition in 18-wheelers and what warning if any, they should carry. They basically set an 18-wheeler container full of ammunition on fire. It sounded like popcorn on the stove. Not a single round penetrated the walls of the trailer (which bullets do quite easily when fired from a gun). witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  7. It's possible that those machines will show up in airports and buildings that have massive security (federal government buildings and monuments) but they will never be as common as cctv. As far as I can tell, the machine/scanner/device would not work outside. That's strike one two and three for proliferating like cctv. Second, and perhaps more important, 99 percent of cctv is only there to make a record in case something happens. Very few cctv feeds are actively monitored. This device, on the other hand, is meant specifically to detect forbidden items. Lastly, heavy garment such as winter coats and other clothing naturally block the heat generated by the human body. I'm not saying this machine will never go anywhere, I'm just saying it's use will be very tailored and specific. (similar to bomb 'sniffer' machines that puff air at you then scan the air) edit: because I was too lazy to proof read witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  8. Then go pay the permit fees, the yearly federal taxes, give up your privacy, and promise a chunk of your soul and/or first born to the government and you have have one. If you think owning an airplane is bad, try working "with" the feds for Class III items. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  9. I'd say that's up for debate . . . and has been for quite awhile. If you exclude weapons that "military personnel, carry" you'd have to exclude quite a few hand guns that I believe are actually quite acceptable, so I personally don't see that as being the standard of what is or is not acceptable. It seems that the most rational answer is the one also supported by the SCUS in the Miller decision. What the court said here is that weapons that are not use din the military are not constitutionally protected. That's right, folks, guns in use in the military specifically ARE protected. So if I understand Bill correctly, he and I agree here that weapons in sue by common infantry today are exactly what the second amendment protects, and exactly where the line should be drawn. This does not include howitzers and crew served weapons, or tanks, TOW guns, and the like. This DOES include things like sub- and light-machine guns, M16A2s and M4s, as well as basically every handgunfrom 9mm to .45 cal. Of course I'm not saying everything not listed as ok by the second should be banned, I'm just saying tha anything not listed above is probably not constitutionally protected. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  10. Supreme court cases offer some guidance here. I don't remember the case, but a guy had been convicted of a crime based on a jacket he wore while on courthouse steps. The jacket had "fuck the draft" written on it. The supreme court threw out the conviction because the guy hadn't said anything, only worn the jacket. Their logic was that you can't avoid hearing offensive statements in your vicinity, but you can always just look away from offensive written language. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  11. Nobody admitted anything, and there is nothing to admit. Some ignorant reporter put the headline calling it a quota, and then got some quotes from ignorant drivers being pissed about quotas. Take note, the DPD officer interviewed specifically stated that there is no quota. A quota implies a number that an officer must write. What is happening is that officers who job it is to enforce trffic violations are having their performance evaluated. Traffic enforcement is a special unit, and in order to work that unit you have to be good at enforcing traffic law. The way to check how well someone is doing is to check his enforcement. If he's not doing well, he'll get talked to. No one is telling this special unit to write tickets or else. And certainly no one is tellling the department at large to write more tickets. You just need to double check what the reporter is saying versus what is actually happening (which it seems we need to do on every story, but that's another issue entirely). witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  12. I just loved these quotes from the story. So apparently he wants officers not to enforce the law. Or is five and ten over the limit not really over the limit? If you've got a problem with the speed limit, complain to the people who set the limit, not the people who enforce it. Well, if you think they wrote you a ticket and you didn't break the law, take it to court. If you're just complaining because they're actually enforcing the law, the go pis into the wind somewhere else, like near the peole woh make the law. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  13. I just wish people would realize that: (A) DPD is looking to meaure officers in their TRAFFIC UNIT, so traffic charges is just about the only way to check up on officers short of riding next to them all day long. [unless of course the whiners would prefer less supervision or a lot of wasted man hours, it's not going to happen] (B) DPD is measuring charges, not the number of stops wher tickets were issued. I know one officer who wrote 13 charges (that's eight citations if you're counting paper instead of charges) for three people in one stop. The stop included open container, insurance, registration expired, driving while license revoked, no seat belt, tail light out, license plate light out, not seat belt times three people, and more. And you know what, before you bitch about heavy handed enforcement, know two things. First, two out of these three people went to jail on warrants for violent crime, and second they were foud to be suspects in a recent robbery/shooting. So who still wants to piss and moan about traffic enforcement? Would you prefer there not be any traffic enforcement, and htat cops let any asshole on the street do anything he wants? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  14. Have you ever gone on a ride-along with police? Have you ever signed up for a 'community academy' session? Do you have any concept of how police use force? Do you understand the force continuum? You've got to be kidding me. You think your standard issue paper pusher or politician is held to any accountability whatsoever? Have you not been paying attention for the last hundred years or so? And as for police officers not being held accountable, not being disciplined... Pull your head out of the sand, or wherever it is you've stuffed it, and do a little homework on the subject, preferably beyond the five o'clock news. If you have any experience whatsoever with actual police work and police officers, beyond the news and the movies, you'd know how ass-backwards your statement was. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  15. This was campus officers dealing with a student in a campus building. I'm sure they have power to enforce campus rules, as well as laws. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  16. OK, I guess I'm the only one to buck the trend here, but I have a different analogy, perhaps more relevant than automotive repair. If a guy sticks it in a girl, but neither one gets off, and then for some reason pulls out and they don't go back at it, did they fuck? Same issue here. Fellatio was performed, so it was a BJ. Sorry boys and girls, but it's still a BJ. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  17. Well, the law of pretty much every state in the union disagrees with you. LEOs are authorized to use reasonable force to arrest anyone guilty of breaking the law. For example, if someone is told to leave an area by someone who has the right to tell them to leave, they are tresspassing. If they don't leave, officers will ask them to leave, tell them to leave, and then make them leave or arrest them. Read up on your state law that authorizeds LEO use of force. In North Carolina, the relevant law is G.S. 1A-401. That would be (A) assault on a law enforcement officer, and (B) a very bad idea. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  19. Actually, taxes are killing me (along with the debt I've accrued, my own fault, live and learn), I live a one bedroom apartment, not a house, and I got in a fight at work yesterday, though G.S.15A-401(d)(1) says I get to keep my job, and before that yesterday I arrested a criminal of hispanic origins who is in the country illegaly - he was driving a very expensive "blinged" escalade. I don't know, does dealing drugs and breaking the law qualify as a "menial" job? But there's no doubt in my mind that my life is better than most and I love it. ps - you hate me yet? I'm a cop. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  20. That's one reason why I like living in Raleigh, NC so much. Both Raleigh PD and the State Troppers in the area will arrest just about anyone for DWI, no matter who they are, including cops and gov employees. They still may use some discretion for minor violations (like they do for stops with al sorts of folks), but if you can be arrested for it on the road, these two departments will likely hook you up. The respect I have for any LEO who will arrest another LEO when it needs to happen is immeasurale. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  21. Well, I don't know about you, or this being a sign of distress, but this picture puts me in distress. This was done as part of a protest at a California High School (Montebello). 22. How about all teh cops who get away with killing people in really unjustifued circumstances? A cop is in a political job. Happens accross teh board, usually these things getswept under tho. That is one of the most blatantly ridiculous statements I've ever read on this stie or any other (except maybe conspiracy sites - maybe). Being a cop is not a political job. You're not elected, you don't make policy, you don't have terms in office, and you're subject to FAR more oversight and held FAR more accountable than any politician. We're talking about irresponsible politicians using tools made to enforce the law so that they themselves can break the law. Who pissed in your cornflakes. Or did a cop just happen to find you when you were guilty of something. Shame on them for catching you. In my experience everyone who hates cops does so because a cop caught them doing something wrong and made them actually pay the consequences. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  25. http://www.wwltv.com/local/stories/wwl040507khmorrell.346aaf71.html "a state trooper clocked the councilwoman flying down I-10 at close to 100 miles per hour just before 9 a.m. Morrell was reportedly in a city-provided SUV and using the vehicle’s blue flashing lights to help cut through traffic." Someone please tell me why in the hell a council member's take home car has blue lights on it. Even if it is driven by police acting as chauffers, it's common sense that those cops are not going to answer calls when driving politicians around. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
