  2. The lady speaks wisdom. Too many folks only carry what's in their gun because they hear about how most encounters only involve two or three rounds before they're over. Well, if you only want to carry for the "most times," then just go ahead and carry an empty gun, becuase most times a gun is presented in anger, it's never even fired. Or even better, if you only want to be prepared for the "most times" situations, don't bother carrying, because most days you won't need it. Do we all see the peoblem in the "most times" mindset now? If you're going to carry, you should cary enough to reload at least one full time. (e.g. a speed loader or enough on a strip to refill a cylinder, or at least one spare magazine) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  3. John, while some may be impressed by your choice of using Latin instead of just saying "false cause," I'm not. I'd much rather hear anything you have to say that concerns the thread at hand. You brought up my mistake about comparing crime committed to crimes reported in a survey. I was wrong there because I made statements implying they were the same, and drew incorrect conclusions. This situation is hardly the same. here we are making cost benefit analyses, or at least comparing costs and benefits if you think this isn't that sophisticated. If you want to disagree about the value of stated benefits compared to state costs, that is fine. If you want to include other costs or benefits, please add to the discussion. But honestly professor, don't just ignore the beneifts because you don't like how they are measured. That would be affirming a disjunct. ps - you could have used multicollinearity, or coincidental correlation if you wanted to sound fancy. Anyone impressed yet? You shouldn't be. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  4. For self defense that should not be an issue. EASE of use should be the issue. Safetys require training and practice to remove. When the stress level is up, and you need it now, I would rather have a DA only revolver. A very good point. If you want a good glimpse into stress firing, aka combat, drop down and do as many pushups as you can, sprint about 100 yards or so, and then try your draw and manipulation. Most people don't realize just how much your fine motor skills are affected by stress. I'm not saying you have to go with a glock or other "no safety" gun, but you should be aware of how you will handle the gun under stress, not just how it feels going slowly on a static firing line at your local range. I do prefer "extended" controls for most handguns, just because I know how hard it is to deal with tiny things when the heat is on. I carry a DA/SA full size because they tell me to, but I carry a Glock or DA revolver when it's my choice. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  5. Do you have any idea which study he was claiming used dubious methodology? I don't. (and I've apologized for mixing up the Brit crime survey with their crime numbers. I did however look back and see that a similar difference apears betwee the US NCVS and the brit survey) And as much as you like calling John a dog, don't forget that I could make much nastier statements about things you've posted. Instead I choose to debate the topic, not the speaker, more often than not. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  6. You lawyer, you. Not that I expect it to happen, but when this is appealed to the SCOTUS, they really should take the case. I mean there are federal districts in direct opposition about the meaning, and hence enforcement, of an amendment to the US Constitution. I can't think of a better reason to grant cert, can you? edit to add new NEWS link http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/03/09/AR2007030902416.html witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  7. So which study are you claiming is based on dubious methodology? I seem to recall there are eleven other widely mentioned studies besides the Kleck Gertz study. They varied in their results from 700,000 DGUs per year and 3.6 million DGus per year. The single most reliable and respected study, with the most scientifically valid methodology is the Kleck-Gertz study from 1993. That study came up with 2.55 million DGUs per year, but reviewed their own findings to exclude soldiers, police, and questionable or unclear reports, and then found a more conservative number of 2.16 million DGUs per year. ps - even the study finding the smallest number of DGUs (700,000)blows your statement out of the water. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  8. This is every case I could find that has relevance to or makes mention of the second amendment. Go ahead and find one that says anyting about it not being an individual right. My particualr favorite is Dred Scott, a case so against human rights, but it specifically states that if blacks were freed that they would have all the rights of men, including the right to carry arms wherever they went. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  9. I said there is no intelligent debate. It's kind of like someone arguing that the earth is flat. You know they are wrong, and all research and facts show they are wrong, but good luck getting it through to them that they are wrong. 9/11 conspirators fall into the same group. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  10. I put this thread together to help enlighten people as to what the Assault Weapon Ban (AWB) is and is not. While a few of the provisions have changed, it's still all about banning semi-automatic rifles that look mean while confusing people about full auto weapons. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  11. Actually, that is fairly accurate in terms of informed intellectual debate. I don't know of a single scholar who would take up for the "collective right" view of the second amendment (as opposed to individual right). Any truly in depth reasearch into the history of the second leaves the reader in no doubt as to the intentions of the framers. Also, as a side note, do you know who the last academic to profess the collective rights view was? His name is Michael Bellesiles. He is a former professor of history at Emory University. He's been so thoroughly discredited that he actually had an award, the Bancroft Prize from Columbia University, revoked. (by "scholar" I mean respected writers published in peer reviewed journals) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  12. Good luck with that. I've had what, six or seven years of languages and couldn't form a decent sentence for you. Howver, I can now tell you how much I despise you in Spanish better than in German, and almost as well as I can in English. I know all the important stuff... how to pick fights, tell people not to move, know when they're about to try to whip my ass, and especially when they are talking about where they hid the drugs. (it's always fun to see the reaction when a big white yankee gringo says "thanks, now don't move and don't fuck with me.") Policia, No se mueva! Tengo los lazos del cierre relámpago. Ah, you've got to love the phrases you can use in more than one way. (literal translation doesn't quite work, but just think...) 13. me be sofa king we Todd did. Damn I should have known #2, if not all of them. Eh, they always said two out of three ain't bad, and three out of five is close to that, right? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  14. Well, we've obviously got 1, 3, and 5, so what the hell are two and four? 7.65x39 for #2? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  17. ps - it never fails to amaze me, even with the text in front of them, just how many people don't realize that... THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MACHINE GUNS!![/RED][/I][/B] witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  18. They're not giving up their rights, they are giving up someone else's rights. If this law affected right they careed about, I'm sure they would be up in arms (figuratively speaking, since they don't give a damn about guns). What people fail to realize is that if we make it easy to take any rights, even ones we don't like, then it is that much easier to go after the next right, and the next one, until they start taking ones you do care about. But by then, there is no one to stand with you to stop it. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  19. I've heard cops say the same thing on private property, without a warrant or permission. They were responding to a call, however, and were requireed by law to be there and investigate. They asked the person to be quiet. They told the person to be quiet. They ordered the person to be quiet. The person didn't respond until a second officer told him to shut the fuck up. Of course, the person had good reason to resist, delay, or obstruct that investigation on property where he lived. He was breaking several laws, and ended up committing a felony before the day was over. Yeah, and it sucks when you have to be somewhere when you don't want to be there, and they don't want you there, but you have to finish your business before you can legally leave. Sometimes, if these retards would jsut shut up, the cop would ask a few questions and leave with no problems. Of course, the problem causers tend to be breaking the law and don't want the cops to finish, becuase finishing might include taking their sorry ass to jail. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  20. Oh, I'm not saying it's never happened, but it's rare and usually based on mistaken identities (e.g. and undercover and an offduty shoot out). In this case it was a scum bag who shot at someone on the street, who happened to be an undercover, and his POS wife, who happens to be an soon-to-be ex-cop, tried to cover it up for him. Honestly, what kind of cop is married to a person who opens fire over getting "dissed" while driving? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  21. This is why I dispise misleading titles. The ambiguous title used by the media is bad enough, but your original title was totally incorrect. No cop shot at another cop in this incident. It was the scumbag husband of a female cop who shot at the undercover officer. (makes you wonder what conclusion you can draw about the wife/cop) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  22. What the hell is your problem? You want good cops working to protect you to die? You want scumbags shooting LEOs? Fuck off. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  23. Nice title. Too bad it doesn't have any relation to the story at hand. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  24. There is a difference between our constitution and the declaration of independance. (pursiut of happiness) I would agree with you that travel is constitutionally protected because it is not listed under the specific powers granted to the federal government. However, most politicians completely ignore that "living, breathing" document unless they're pandering for votes. The law breakers makers look at the Interstate Commerce clause and the "necessary and proper clause, and figure "Tough shit, we're the federal government and we'll do what we want." Specific protect by constitutional amendment. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  25. In that case I'd: (A) Still believe it's anti-gun just because of who proposed it (B) Bitch a lot, but ante up and pay if I lived there (C) Wonder why in the hell they are taxing anythign shooting related. Fuck's sake, if you want to make money, tax freakin IPods and toilet paper. There's no reason to choose guns or ammo for taxation unless you really just don' tlike them. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
