  1. Well, now that the Department of Justice is investigating Mayor Mike and his private investigators for possible violations of state and federal law, and those gun shops he had raided have all been given back their inventory (approximately 500 firearms to two stores, maybe more), I really have to wonder if he still thinks all his BS publicity stunts were worth it. Well, of course he does because if you listen to his spindoctors, everything is right and wonderful and he's never done anyhing wrong. Here in the real world: he's harassing businesses who have not even violated the law including confiscating inventory, going bananas about metal treatments and paint, and being investigated by the Feds. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  2. if you're asking why end of the electricity age predictions (assuming they come true) are "bad," then hmm, think about everything you use that runs on electricity. Yep, they're now paper weights. You know that money you buy things with? It's now kindling and bits of metal, nothing more. You know that store you shop in for food? It's gone. No supplies delivered and no system for selling. Basically the world reverts to life as it was before the industrial revolution, with too many people and none of them able to cope. Is that a bad thing? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  3. disclaimer: (I do NOT want to turn this into a gun thread) Well, if ethical reporting requires that you at least understand and present basics and factual information, then yes, by and large the press is not ethical when reporting almost any sport that is not "mainstream." They may get football and baseball right, but heaven help the article written on skydiving, recreational shooting, rock climbing, or anything else 85% of reporters have never done. (note I said reporters, not population) The first thing that came to mind was firearms and their recreational uses - hunting, target shooting, 'practical' competitions, etc. If a reporter showed up to write an article on the legal system and didn't understand stare decisis, or vior dire, they'd be laughed out of the press room. Same thing with the sports writer who doesn't understand what the line of scrimmage is, or what icing is, or where the green monster is. But when if comes to writing on "strange" things like skydiving, or shooting for fun, they seem to think, "oh, that's bad, so I don't need facts, just a good story." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  5. interestingly enough, they weren't. What makes you say that? Maybe I need a flashier title and succinct synopsis to garner more speakers corner interest, but it's my understanding that they plead guilty - hence convicted http://www.knoxnews.com/kns/local_news/article/0,1406,KNS_347_3908434,00.html What I can't understand is why the local prosecutor would let them off the hook, just because it's gone federal. All I can imagine is some good old fashioned good-ole-boy "just letting it go." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  6. So who still wants to argue? Can you do so with something as strong as a peer-reviewed journal article? (hearsay from "this cop lab guy I know" does not qualify) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  7. Eh, I know bio-diesel has similar problems on cold days. Needs kerosene and or fuel additives to prevent gelling/freezing. Orifaces? As in where the cylinder cycles? OK, I just wasn;'t sure on the facts. I've seen a lot of "news" on new fuels, very little in the way of facts. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  8. At least you can find alternative fuels near you. I'm living in the middle of corn country right now, and there isn't a station in sight carrying anything other than good old fashioned gasoline. Trust me, I'd love to have a car that can run on E85 or another new fuel, but not without anyhting to support it. The problem is that we're still in the growing pains stage. Once we have some infrastucture, and dedicated vehicles (rather than either or vehicles) then I''ll get in line. Until then I just need a smaller junker that gets better gas mileage. (will it be "veggie-mileage" in the future? alci-mileage?) I seem to recall reading that E85 would be better if we had cars that ran on just E85, rather than gas or E85 or a mix. Why is that? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  9. Lester Eugene Siler I'm just going to post three or four little links and leave the rest to you. FYI: the audio is a bit... disturbing... and be sure to have the transcript open if you do listen. http://www.thelibertypapers.org/2006/04/28/the-war-on-drugs/ http://hammeroftruth.com/2006/04/25/southern-fried-justice-becoming-epidemic/ http://web.knoxnews.com/pdf/silertranscript.pdf http://wms.scripps.com/knoxville/siler/siler.mp3 witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  10. I haven't read the screenplay or anything, but I've heard it's about as factual as Braveheart so angelina's suggestion might not be that far out of place, really... witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  11. Or there are always Glock, Sig, etc, weapons chambered for the .357 sig if semi-auto over-penetration is your thing... Of course, then you can pick up a handy carbine that uses the same ammo as your side-arm. Same magazines in csome cases too. (.357 sig actually makes use of the extra barrel, unlike so many others) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  14. This sentence makes no sense, maybe you will see that when a different subject is put in its place: Adns ince no law ever passed has ever accomplished the goal of preventing criminals from speeding, then there should none passed which prevent the law-abiding citizens from speeding. Justin, what law prevents someone from speeding? There isn't one, nor should there be. There are laws to punish someone for doing something wrong, but should we pass laws to prevent someone from being able to do something wrong? Do you suggest we make car ownership illegal to prevent speeding and drunk driving? Do you think people going to the theater to should be gagged to prevent yelling "fire?" Do you think the idea of "prior restraint" should be used to prevent crimes, yes or no? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  15. Ideally I'd agree with you, but I don't think the government is enforcing legacy admissions to Yale or any other school are they? If the school wants to use strange or distasteful policies, that is their choice, as long as they don't decide based on illegal criteria (though illegal is tough to define here since discrimination based on race is illegal but raced based admissions are not) Professor, wouldn't you agree there is a difference between a school choosing to use unpopular admissions versus the government requiring them to do so? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  16. So, according to you, affirmative action is not racist, correct? Giving advantages in admissions or employment based on race is not racist? What if it were whites being giver preference in admissions and employment, would it be racist then? See, I have this little idea, more of a dream really, that one day men will be judged not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. Affirmative action doesn't really fit that dream, now does it. Racism is wrong, no matter which group it is helping. Why? Because in helping one person, it is hurting someone else because they are the "wrong" race. Wouldn't you prefer that we judge people on who they are rather than where they come from? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

    Goodbye

Is it kosher to say "hello" in a goodbye thread? Hey ACME, and everybody else who cares enough to notice I was gone. I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaack... witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  18. I don't have time to search all my old posts, but the short version is that at least 2.5 million people use guns defensively every year. Just don't expect CBS to run that story. 19. Thankfully, he won't lose the lawsuit, though he will lose a ton of money having to defend himself in the lawsuit. I think in every state it is legal to use force to protect another person as long as that person would be justified in using the same force to protect themself. In this example, as long as the woman being stabbed didn't start the fight, she would be justified in using deadly force to stop her attacker, and therefore the man who intervened on her behalf is justified in using deadly force. (I'm not going to go intotrying to convice certain liberal pacifists that deadly force is justified, but that's what the law says) I suppose if you work on the principle that no one wins in lawsuits except lawyers, then yes, he'll lose too. Unfortunately, some people really do think this way. Frightening. Thankfully most of us don't. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  20. Most of them have far too much fat and or sugar in them to be any kind of good energy or protein source. My personal favorite (and just about the only one I eat anymore) is the Clif's Builder Bars. The chocolate is really good, but their peanut butter is nasty. Haven't tried any others yet. I've seen my bars from $4 per 5 bars to over $2.50 a piece. WalMart, if you can stomach shopping there is consistently on the low end, but the best prices I've seen are at small Healt food/organic/etc grocery stores. edit: 270 calories, 20g of protein, I think about 7g of fat, and while it listes twentysomething grams of carbs, it lists "only two impact carbs" whatever the hell that means. Some irrelevant atkins BS I suppose. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  21. NO, I used the contact us on the bottom of the CBS page. I also realized the article is a reprint from "the American Prospect." So I wrote them too, asking where they got the 800+ number. Think I'll ever hear back? ps - the NRA knows all about it. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
  22. See, now that's one of millions that make up the all-too-often ignored "benefit" of the cost-benefit analysis for guns. People always want to ban guns for all the harm they are involved in* but those people never want to admit or consider the positive aspects of private ownership of firearms. * (I refuse to say "the harm they cause" because they're metal and plastic, and don't cause anything) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

  25. No, no, no, it's those elite academics, you know, the ones who are beter than us, that have that wonderful view from their ivory tower. The media folks have trouble seeing past the haze of makeup powder and ass kissing sycophants. edit: Besides, is it really just "twisting" when you double the number for your report, and the number you doubled isn't even the correct number? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
