Does anyone else think it is just plain wrong to insult someone in cyberspace when you are in the same room? in her own words... "that's 'tetic." witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

What, did the internet run out of boobie pics to keep 'em occupied. (Wait, thats a horrible thought, pretend I never said it) Yes, that's a horrible thought, but (A) it'll never happen and (B) even if it did they could console each other with (((((VIBES))))) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Only thing tha comes to mind is in Singapore, population 4 million, there's no gun crime to speak of. Private ownership of guns have been banned since the 1800's, and the using or attempting to use arms during a crime, such as a robbery, is a capital offence in Singapore.. Different culture i guess. Then again, the entire male population over 18 has served for 2.5 years in the military. "The Arms Offences Act[5] Any person who uses or attempts to use arms (Section 4) can face execution, as well as any person who uses or attempts to use arms to commit some scheduled offences (Section 4A)" Eugene edited to clear up some poor wording. My friend, that is not gun registration, that is an out and out BAN on firearms. Also, before you consider that a success, you have to compare crime rates. Sure, there is little to no gun crime, but what about overall IndexI offenses? Is it better, or just done without guns? What I'm saying is "Sure, there's less gun crime, but who cares whether it's a gun or something else?" Banning guns lessens gun crime. Whoopie. Who cares if there are still crimes committed with other implements? Why focus on the tool rather than the act? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Yep, it's that patheic. With the way numbers can change, particularly homicides, between drafts and the final UCR publication, I wouldn't be at all surprised if it turns out that Chicago's murder rate actual goes up between 2004 and 2005. What would it take, maybe three deaths to be determined as homicides? or three beating victims to die and go from ag assaults to murder? John, I have to tell you kallend is really reaching for his "gun control correlates with lower murder rates" argument. Meanwhile everytime we hit him with another simple, logical representation of gun rights correlating with a drop in major crime, he seems to disappear. As much as death is tragic and all that, I would love it if three more were reclassified and the rate went up. Could you imagine his reaction then? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

John, unless the city grew by leaps and bounds between 2004 and 2005 I wouldn't jumping for joy about their crime numbers. You had one less murder. Yes, one less, and depending on how things are finalized, that tiny little margin may end up reversing and causing Chicago to have the same or a higher murder rate. It also doesn't help that Illinois will not properly report it's statistics, so a complete comparison of violent crime is not possible. In 2004, Chicago had 35106 murders, robberies, and aggrivated assaults. In 2005, Chicago had 34354 murders, robberies, and aggrivated assaults. That translates to one less murder, fifty two more robberies, and 821 fewer Ag Assaults, with the numbers still facing changes for the final pulication of the UCR. While the numbers are less important than the rates, since the city did not experience any extraordianry growth, they still show the picture clearer than John saying "the murder rate went down." Sure it did John. How much? Now, please, tell me again what any of this has to do with firearms? Because we've shown conclusively that availabity of firearms does not raise the violent crime rate. Making firearms, particularly handguns more availbe actually correlates with unexpected drops in the crime rate. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

This statement is so incredibly flawed it isn't even funny.... Actually it is 100% accurate. The supreme court of the United States has ruled that felons and people intent on committing felonies cannot be prosecuted for failing to register firearms. Forcing them to register is forcing self incrimination, and we don't do that. Therefore only people who do not commit crimes have to register their guns. Hence, Gun registration laws can only document which Law Abiding Citizens have them. Legal citizens who have never committed a felony and do not intend to. Any questions? Also, why have you completely ignored the issue at hand, that these registries cost a great deal of money that would be better spent on law enforcement, while producing nothing of value? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I understand why the politicians do it. It's their job to look like they are giving people what they want. My question is why do people want it? What makes a non-politician call for gun control? Becuase it worked so well in other places? HAH!! witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Modern single action revolvers like my Ruger Super Blackhawk use a transfer bar and appropriately shaped hammer so they can't discharge unless you cock them and pull the trigger. That a hunting sidearm? Either way, it negates the last reason for carrying a self defense sidearm with an empty chamber. Can anyone explain why you would want to do so? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

What truly boggles the mind is that these massive registration schemes not only fail to produce any valuable results, they also cost a king's ransom to run. They promised Canadians that it would cost only 2million dollars, and then after hiding the true cost so as not to be evicted from office, the programs has run intot the billions of dollars. With A B. Do people pushing these registration ideas just like paying taxes? Does anyone else think we would be better served if instead of investing in useless databases, we spent that money on more officers and more resources for law enforcement? That or they have SEVERE issues with phobias and projection/ tranferrence. I understand if someone else wants to avoid things, but why they want to deprive everyone else of that choice is beyond me. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Might as well carry a rock I didn't understand that comment either. Why in the hell would you carry a semi-automatic firearm and not have a round chambered? Same question for double action revolvers. The only time I understand offering that warning is if you intend to carry a single action revolver, which is probably the least commonly chosen self defense sidearm. edit: spelling witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I have a simple answer that most logical people agree with - Scrap the gun laws that amount to prior restraint, and vigorously enforce that laws that involve actual intent and harm, or attempted harm, to a second party. e.g. - do away with registrations and ownership bans, laws against carrying (legalize concealed, open, or both) and pour money into law enforcement that deals with assaults, robberies, homicides (read state and local, not federal). (I'd also split the BATFE in half - the tax parts can stay in the Treasury department, but remove the F and E and roll them into the FBI, other federal investigations, or shitcan them) witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

First things first - learn the four rules of gun safety, and believe in them (1)Every gun is loaded. every time you pick up a gun, believe that it can kill. Always know there is a round in the chamber and pulling the trigger will fire. This is true until you verify otherwise with both touch and sight. I just think of it as every time I turn around, the nasty little discharge gremlins sneak up and load it. (2)Never point the gun at anything you are not willing to destroy. Self explanatory, since every gun is loaded, pointing the gun at anything risks putting a bullet there. (3)Keep your finger straight and off the trigger until you are ready to fire. If you don't want to shoot, don't pull the trigger. The best way to keep from causing accidental /negligent discharges is to keep your finger straight and outside the triggerguard until you are ready to pull the trigger. (4) Know your target and what lies beyond. If you're shooting at something, be sure you want to shoot at it, and know what you'll hit if you miss or the shot over penetrates and passes through the target. Next, since you plan to carry this firearm, spend the money to find two or three comfortable holsters. The more comfortable carrying it is, the more likely you'll be comforted by it's presence, rather than leaving it at home or in the car, etc. As to the ammo question, it's generally a good idea to run at least several hundred rounds through your handgun to "break it in" and become truly familiar with it. In this case, more rounds are always better, because more range time is always better. Once you feel comfortable and capable with the pistol, go ahead and purchase a few boxes of defense ammunition. You need to know the difference in how they shoot and how they print on the target. Finally, seek professional firearms instruction, and be wary of anyone who offers free tactics or methods. (a) People with a quality product know they can charge for it, while the guy on the corner isn't exactly bringing home the bacon with his advice. Coincidence? I think not. (b) It will increase your abilities more than you can imagine and may serve you well if (God forbid) legal questions of liability ever becomes an issue for you. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Who mentioned Bush? John, you'retoo old to be cute and not very good at coy. [high pitch whiny voice] "Oh dear, and who were you inferring withheld the'true costs' from congress? And who's responsible?" [/voice] But since you brought American and it's politics/politicians into this... Now that we know the real costs, and complete uselessness of a complete gun registry, do you still support one being created by the feds here in the USA? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

My guess would be, gee lemme think about this one... People? Bad, nasty, gonna-hurt-other-people kinda people? I got to play with a very sweet .308 AR variant with a MagPul precision rifle stock, 3-9x lenses, and plenty of 20round steel magazines. I was feeling very Irish what with all the clover leaves around. And it even cleaned up easy becuase it was a piston gun, so there was nearly zero nastiness depsited back into the action with each shot. ps - a very neat little addition to this rifle: New to me, but apparently not to those who play in the sandbox, a tiny little Docter Optics red dot sight sat mounted on top of the scope, making close up and moving shots much more fun. A definite addition to any AR I will own. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

An interesting idea. Seems fair enough, on balance. There are many states with Republican majorities in their legislatures; there are a lot of Republican governors; Congress has been Republican-controlled for over a decade, and a Republican president has been in office since 2001. I wonder why this hasn't been done yet? Because there aren't any daddy warbucks lobbying (and paying) for it. You're tired of it? I realize there are a smattering of such cases that are filed here and there, but most are recognized as frivolous and dismissed long before trial (also known as "laughed out of court"). That's what I predict may happen with the Rochester NY case, too. Is there some epidemic of such cases that I'm unaware of? While one is too many, especially for the person being sued, I would in fact classify it as an epidemic. Why is it so common? Becuase (some)lawyers will take any plaintiff and sue anyone for any reason or no reason at all. Why? Because they get paid no matter how quickly it is thrown out. You have to remember that all too often it is less expensive for an innocent (and not liable) person to settle out of court than it is to defend the case and win. Which unfortunately rewards ridiculous lawsuits and encourages them to continue to be filed. Been there, done that, doing it again, but I have to tell you calling them on the telephone is far more effective. Now that's the American Spirit. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I'm thinking we need something a little stronger than chlorine. Lead, copper and cordite sound about right to me. A lot of people seem to support "rehabilitation through reincarnation," and it gets harder and harder to disagree. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

There's a severe difference between civil law and criminal law. Even if someone isn't criminally liable, they maybe found liable in civil court. As evidenced by this case: [rul "http://timesunion.com/AspStories/story.asp?storyID=489989&category=ALBANY&BCCode=LOCAL&newsdate=6/9/2006"]Insurance to Defend Homeowner[/url] While the insurance aspect is sure to raise hackles, I'm simply pointing out that he was aquitted by a jury, but still faces civil lawsuits. Besides, even if a lawsuit is dismissed, it is expensive as hell to defend yourself from it. A lot of people are bankrupt after being found not guilty and not liable. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

We really need a federal law (and matching law in each state) that simply states that you forfeit the right to sue for any harm you suffer while intentionally committing a felony. I'm tired of home owners being sued by criminals who hurt themselves while committing crimes. Add to that ranchers afraid of illegals because of lawsuits and average people deathly afraid of "I'll sue!" and I'm ready to do something about it. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Yeah, I bet everyone just can't wait for airplanes to become the new restaurants. Passenger A: "BLAH, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!!!" "...uh huh, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!!" You must not bring a lot of Quail or Dove home from your hunts. OK, so I should have stated something to the effect of big game, or non flying game, or whatever, but really, depending on the rules you hunt by, one could bring home quite a few tasty little birds with a rifle. Regardless, I don't think there is a land based animal native to North America that couldn't be safely and ethically hunted with a 30-06. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

They are on my short list of go-to products. Not only are their prodicts top of the line, they stand behind them 100%. They will return anything within reason, are willing to do exchanges if you decide you want something else (without beating the living crap out of the first lght) and customer service is truly outstanding. SureFire is one of the few companies I enjoy doing business with, and one of less than ten that I unconditionally recommend to anyone and everyone. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

A 30-06 is sufficient for elk provided you use the proper rounds and know your limitations (and hit where you're aiming). I don't know the prices so won't offer purchase advice, but I have used BARs in 30-06 and found them comofartable and reliable. Just find the ammunition that it likes best. (the one I was using had a definite preference for heavier rounds, particularly winchester 180grain FailSafe Supreme) Caveats: a) A BAR (or any good sized semi) can start to feel VERY heavy on longer treks, such as you might have to make to get the shot on elk. b) Some people just aren't happy unless you are using a howitzer or the newest flattest fastest shortest whatever.; don't listen with more than half an ear, the 30-06 is all you need to hunt anything in North America witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I would say that Federal and Local levels have far more control than intended, and far more than is appropriate, but the State level is just about right, with maybe a little more needed - to replace the federal overreach which would disappear in my happy little world. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
