so now the supreme court is your guide on respecting rights? Funny, but that's not what you said in another recent thread. So tell me again how you think rights should automatically be in efffect at all times, and not depend on saying or doing extra things. Hypocritical much? Tell me again which of us believes in the full spectrum of individual rights. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Israeli troops attack ship carrying aid to Gaza killing 16
Kennedy replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
To answer your one and only valid concern, the "paintball" guns are used to fire a pepperball round. It's like a paint ball but it has oleoresin capsicum, the OC in pepperspray, in a powder form. If you doubt that they roped in with paint ball type guns, then you are calling the activist/terrorists that were on the ship liars (not a big stretch, but I doubt it's your intention) because even they said IDF troops arrived with them. Also, if you pull your head out of your al-jazeera, there are videos out there that show the IDF holding them at there start. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
Actually I got sick of your nonsense and had better things to do. As to your response, you still don't know the difference between a right and a warning, you still don't know a damn thing about me, and you still can't tell the difference (even after another poster tried to explin it to you) between my complaining about idiots THINKING they have to have miranda before being arrested and my clearly stating that a miranda warning is only necessary when a suspect is in custody and law enforcement wants to ask them questions about the incident. Basically, you're a joke, you don't know a damn thing about me, you're profiling, and you just don't mean enough for me to bother to refute your weak arguments. The fact remains, no matter how much you complain or contend to the contrary, that I have more respect and concern for individual rights than you do, and I don't pick and choose which ones I give a damn about, unlike you and your ilk. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I was about to write a long involved and deeply personal response, whose summation would basically be a polite version of TKE's post. Why does bad stuff that happened to someone else's grandpa matter more today than bad stuff that happened to mine? And just so you know, whtih what I do and where I haev to go, I hear racial slurs and threats against me based on my race on a daily basis. I just chalk them up and ignorant trash, same as I do when I hear anyone of any race throwing slurs against someone else based on race. Nobody gets a pass on that nonsense in my book. So coming full circle, why do you think some people act like racism is ok as long as it's not against a currently PC protected race? Why is racism OK for some races and not others? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

While I wholeheartedly believe ESL and LEP folks should have an interpreter while in court, let's not leave out the important facts here. She had an attorney, and THE ATTORNEY chose not to seek an interpreter for the case. This woman was not denied an interpreter, her side enver asked for one. Of course, I understand that someone who doesn't understand the word "compelled" might have difficulty with the distinction. From your own article: (third paragraph) Incopetant counsel, yes. Rights denied by the court, no. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

I'd say we're still waiting for an answer as to why you think racism is ok against some races and not against others, but that would imply we actually expect you to asnwer a clear and concise challenge to one of your many self-contradicting statments. We don't expect an answer, and really don't expect much of use from you. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Quade, ask my great grandfather about being called a worthless drunken mick, or just call him a bog-jumper or any of the thousands of other slurs against Irish. Actually don't, I still remember the brawl that happened when I was little and I don't want you to get hurt.... Anyway, let's not forget that racism is not necessarily related to skin color. I know it's not big in schools anymore since recognizing bigotry against whites isn't PC, but I still have a "NINA" sign that great grandpa took out of a window. NINA = No Irish Need Apply. Interesting side note: the only time I've ever been called a nigger was when a dark-skinned person called me a potato-nigger. Of course, he also called my friend a sand-nigger. That really made him laugh because he is descended from Russian and Mayan ancestors. Of course, the only people I hear using "nigger" anymore are, in fact, "black" folks. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

We're still waiting for the sources of you "quotes." By the way, when you "approach" someone while holding a knife with the apparent intent of stabbing them (which qualifies as deadly force) you can expect them to reply in kind. If they have a gun, expect to get shot. So you got the source for those"quotes" or are you just making shit up again? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
1) I couldn't care less. Call it something other than marriage with the same rights, and go bugger yourself and your boyfriend silly. 2) Not a right. Something to be determined at the state level in this country per US constitution. There is no such thing as reproductive rights. I am personally against it, and would not suggest people do it, but I would not have the government stamp down on it. I have a really good argument against it, though. If abortions were more easily available years ago, my wife wouldn't be here. I don'tknow about you, but I think that's a big loss. 3) It's a warning, not a right. The rights you're refering to are the fifth amendment's rights concerning self incrimination and right to counsel under due process (before it goes under the sixth). I am very strongly for both rights. I however am not a lunatic about it like some here who think police should never talk to anyone ever. I'm pretty comfortable being in step with the SCOTUS on this on. 4) Why would I haev a prblem with the 14th? Have I ever said I do, or are you grasping at straws to fill space? 5) Same as above. Edit to add: The Geneva convention protections only applies to people who abide by the Genvea convention, iirc. Well, you've managed to be very disrespectful, and stated absolutely nothing. Have you met me? Do you know me? Do you know anyonethat knows me? Have you ever even seen me? Do you know what I do for a living? I didn't think so, so why don't you keep your ignorant condescending statements to yourself. Can you really dispute that the essence of being far left is wanting the governemt to run and do everything? PS- should I even bother listing all the indivdual rights that you and your kind do not support? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

You do realize that this entire conversation only applies to peoplein custody, right? THat is peope under arrest or serving a sentence. Yes, you're "held against your will" but don't act like the suspect was snatched off the street for no reason. The supreme court and every respectable, recognized legal authority disagree with you. If a suspect is so weak that simply asking a question a few times when they are under arrest qualifies as "compelling" them, that's their problem. You know what, it's not even worth explaining this to you because you have no idea how interogation actually works, have no idea what law enforcement actually does, and have no interest in hearing anything other than "cops are all evil." If that's the pathetic little world you live in, it's your problem. You are no different from thousands of other fanatics who have decided to hate something for no reason. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Making law around the circumstances of one dirtbagperson is not generally a good idea. That's the nice thing about the Supreme Court, they tend to take the bigger picture into account (of course, they're not infallible and I don't always agree, but hell you can't get nine lawyers with decades of experience to agree on much of anything). However, I'm still waiting for you to explain how you would put your option into effect in realilty. Would you just amke it illegal for police to talk to people? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Do you understand what the word compel means? Asking a question doesn't meet the definition. Especially when all you have to do is say "I don't want to talk." Five little words make the mean old police man leave you alone. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

An interesting analysis of the flotilla coverage
Kennedy replied to falxori's topic in Speakers Corner
Who the fuck taught you your history? You need a refund and some serious research. Aside from leaving out the part about a legal blockade and the intention of making headlines by causing problems rather than any intent to actually help the people in Gaza, check. I mean really, have you read the thread? That's a piss poor analogy and has been both debunked, and answered already. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
An interesting analysis of the flotilla coverage
Kennedy replied to falxori's topic in Speakers Corner
Do you deny that there is hypocrisy (and much worse) on both sides int he Israeli-Arab conflict? It's called an embargo. Blockade works, too. You don't let ships through bearing any flag but your own and your allies. And remember Israel wasn't the only country inolved in screening items sent to Gaza. The first five or six ships did go along with the IDF boaders, and surprise surprise, no one died. The sixth ship, which planned violence all along, ended up with a body count. Should I be shocked? I don't know about yuo, but my head is not rock-proof. I've seen heads split open with rocks. Hell, throwing big rocks at people qualifies as deadly force. Responding in kind is the generally accepted self-defense. It's been done at the US southern border, and they're generally dealing with drug runners and human trafficking, not people intent on destroying our entire country. Funny how Israel doesn't say its goal is genocide, nor is it practicing genocide. Their enemies, however, preach that exact thing and seem to be doing their damnedest to carry through on that threat. Darius, the plain and simple fact is that Israel and its enemies have both done terrible things, neither side is innocent. Don't go playing the poor little victim when Gaza was taken when other surrounding countries attacked Israel. If you start a war and get your ass whipped, don't be upset when you lose a bit of land. And it's not like that Arab world really gives a shit about Palestinians anyway. Low man on the totem pole would at least indicate they are considered human. From what I've seen, most Arabs consider them little better than Jews. Quick question: does Israel have as much right to exist as any other country? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Kennedy replied to falxori's topic in Speakers Corner
I'm really glad you brought that up. You can call unconventional tactics self defense or the weaker side's offense, but only if you go after military targets. You don't get to claim self-defense when you set off bombs in crowded restaurants and public places. You don't get to claim self-defense when dropping rockets on civilian neighborhoods. It's a lot like the IRA. They had a lot of support going after military patorls and the occasional politician. When they went for cafes and street corners, they crossed the line from resistance to terrorists. You also don't get to be all upset about your schools and holy places getting blown up when you attack from there or hide you munitions there. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -

Israeli troops attack ship carrying aid to Gaza killing 16
Kennedy replied to dreamdancer's topic in Speakers Corner
Andy, they don't want to hear the facts, they are just going to keep calling it piracy, or comparing it to one country's navy making an unprovoked attack on another country's navy. But I agreee with you on both points. Of course, instead of going through the proper channels to get their aid to Gaza, the people who attacked the IDF soldiers are gong to send more boats. I don't see the IDF using paintball guns this time. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1* -
A pretty good summation The SCPTUS Decision (if you can wade through it; it's not a mccain feingold, but it's not an easy reading decision either) edeit to add: Before I even read the decision, THAT'S what I'VE been saying. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Your analogy is, to use his word, crappy. You are equating dissimilar situations. That's like if I ask you do you think shooting someone is acceptable. You can't answer that without additional information that distinguishes right from wrong (or legal from illegal). A convicted felon walks into a bank, announces a stick up and shoots a person who tries to run away. Not ok, right? Across town, an officer is called to a pistol whipping in progress. On arrival he sees a convicted felon holding a gun beating a smaller man who is unconscious. The officer announces his presences and shouts for everyone to stop. The felon screams I'm gonna kill you raises the fun toward the officer. The officer shoots the felon. Acceptable, justified, right? So which is it Bill, is it ok to shoot someone or not? Can't you answer a simple question? Pretty unreasonable, isn't it? And it's exactly what you are doing. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Not getting caught isn't the same thing as being innocent. However, I'd agree that some politicians do try to represent their electorate. It's just too bad ninety-some percent of politicians give the other ones a bad name. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Are you realy going to equate an aggressive Navy attempting to control another country's Navy vessel in international waters with a country enforcing an international blockade on civilian ships that are bringing unserached goods to an area controled by terrorists? Do you see a difference here that might contribute to someone thinking your analogy was not, well, analogous? witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Which you apparently haven't read very closely. Fact: I have always been against "progressive" policies Fact: I have always supported individual freedoms Fact: I haev always been against unconstitutional and unsustainable government spending Fact: I have always supported higher pay/better conditions for law enforcement and military. Fact: I do not identify very closely with any party, but I am closest to Libertarian. I am certainly not "the Right" I'd love to see you prove me wrong, but you won't, because you can't. witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*

Is Gaza a country? Does Israel have the right to exist without attack? Does Israel have the right to blockade Gaza? (be careful, they were'nt the only one involved) Do flagged vessels have the right to stop other vessels in international waters after making their identity and intentions clear? (as in "US Coast Guard, here to search for drugs" or "IDF, here to enforce a blockade" as opposed to "Somali pirates, here to steal your stuff") witty subliminal message Guard your honor, let your reputation fall where it will, and outlast the bastards. 1*
