There are very few true liberals. Most people who consider themselves "liberal" actually fall under PC socialism. Conservatives, on the other hand, do tend to be traditional (with the exception of wanting government to intervene on their behalf). People who invite further governmental intrusion into everyday life are socialists. There are people with traditional views who are quite socialist, and people with new and different (they like to think of it as 'progressive') ideas who are socialist. There are also people who do not favor governmental intrusion, who believe people should be allowed to make their own choices. The difference here is that companies are not designing new firearms for the military. The military is terrible at designing them for themselves. Without private drive for new guns, the military is SOL. And firearms manufacturers are not going to bother with the military because it's just not enough revenue without the prospect of civilian sales.
