Usually the nasty stuff comes up (spews out) with compressions. At least if you were a lone rescuer...per the original post....you'd be less likely to have stuff come up during a couple of rescue breaths. I think I'd just have to wipe the face off of any goo and give breaths as indicated. Oxygen is good for a person's brain. I don't think I could stand myself if I didn't do my best. Maaan, losing a law license isn't NEARLY an adequate penalty for someone like him. A person would go to prison for stealing someone's car (as he should), but to be willing to destroy these boys' lives for his own political gain he just loses his license. Damn, Bonnie. I love people who can sum it up so perfectly. I'm with you in praying for peace....and I'm really not much of a praying woman, but toward the forces that guide our world I pray that this will end soon. I'd even pray to God, if I thought it'd do any good, for it to end before MY son is a man. I can't fathom taking a last good look at him before sending him off on such an undertaking.... Some studies are indicating that the patient is actually better off when single-rescuer CPR is compression only. I think that this is the case only because of people's reluctance to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation and because CPR can be difficult to learn and perform--so people just won't do it, or they do it ineffectively. Compression-only CPR is better than NO CPR, but I'd be willing to bet that the 30 compressions to 2 breaths is more beneficial than compressions only when performed by a well-trained person. If you know of studies that demonstrate otherwise, I'd sure like to see it. It'd be good information to know. It's just hard for me to fathom. Maybe people will be more willing to perform CPR, though, if chest compressions are all ya' have to think about....and that can be pretty grueling in its own right. linz -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. I didn't do a course. I used First Aid for step 1 and studied it through and through. If you've prepared yourself well during your first two years of medical school, then the work won't be all that hard, really. I see the bone issue, but I'm wondering about the "can't absorb nutrients" thing. That's just not something I'm aware of. I've wondered about the mechanism for bone density loss, and that's what I think of when it comes to caffeine. But what about other nutrients? If your gallbladder is acting up but still working and not infected, you can decrease your fat intake to try and avoid surgery for a while. You could have a single gallstone that you're trying to pass, and if it passes on its own you may be okay for a while. Sticking with low fats, your gallbladder will be less active and less likely to act up or form stones. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. Actually, in taking nutrition classes it is well known that vitamins and minerals cannot be absorbed by the system when there's caffiene there. I'd really like to know what the mechanism is that makes that true. I can see some less efficient handling of nutrients, but "cannot be absorbed?" Knowing how the gut works, I'm just not seeing it. What part of this can't be understood? She HAS an appointment. So please don't call her names. She's just looking for more. I just hope next Monday is not too late. if it is, we'll miss her, and we'll all walk around in black for a while... Hope ya' get to feeling better Amber! And I'll cross my fingers that it's not your gallbladder and goes away on its own. :) Had a woman in the ER last night with a small bowel obstruction....BIG loops of dilated small bowel, air-fluid levels, the whole nine yards. She took a big dump (finally, after a week of hurting....and WHEW did it stink), and the pain went away. Still admitted her and ordered new x-rays for the morning, but it was funny as hell.
