Correct........except that when you're talking about large houses and private jets, you're talking about luxuries. When you're talking about healthcare, then you're talking about someone's life. If a government is supposed to take care of it's people then it needs to do something about that. This argument always makes me go "Hmmmm." Why aren't we obligated to provide people with the basics of food, clothing, shelter? This is kind of a tangent, but guess what I found as I perused the history on my 10 y/o son's computer. Yep....boobie sites! I don't think he's been traumatized, but I bet he went looking for what he saw. So there is obviously a difference...lol. I suggested that he update his antivirus program regularly and if he got an infestation of pop-ups to let me know. I'd see what I could do to help. HAHAHA!!! My comments were not concerning your hard work, nor your compassion ...just the whining about financial hardship when you have more expensive toys and live better than the vast majority of Americans! My 'venom' would have directed toward anyone who right out of a basic internship, felt they were sufficiently competent to run an ER. First of all, I haven't complained about financial hardships. I don't know where you're getting that. Second, Nobody's competent right out of internship to run an ER. It's scary as hell. But in these little critical access hospitals out in the boondocks, there's nobody else. Residents are the best they have access to. Having a licensed resident available is better than having no physician at all within 60 miles. I don't need YOUR venom to feel the weight of someone dying or having a bad outcome because in an critical emergency I just wasn't good enough. Had they been closer to a larger hospital with physicians with more training they probably would've done better. Your little snide comments don't even make a tiny dent in my feelings about that. But keep on...it's obviously your way. When recently-licensed residents cover small, rural ERs they're not taking the place of someone more qualified. We're the only ones willing to cover the shifts. It's not like highly-trained ER docs are beating down the doors to cover these little places. MOST people are thankful to have someone. There are SOME people who are gonna bitch about ya' no matter what you do (which is the type of responses I've come to expect from you). Cool, glad your Dad gave you a killer deal on the house. What's really cool is that he didn't give me a killer deal on the house. It's just the economic depression in this part of the country that makes good stuff cheap. And just for the record, the jacuzzi's a plan for the future....when I have the money to afford it. The Harley's sold, and I haven't made a skydive since February. AND I still haven't complained about financial hardships that I recall, because really I have none. :) Hell, I don't think I even complained about financial hardships back when I was a social worker. Didn't you recently finish your internship ...and buy a new Harley and a magnificent new home, remodel and refurnished it ...and how bout that jacuzzi you posted about? If I'm wrong, I apologize. If not ...well, I really don't believe your comments about suffering and lack of compensation carry much weight. I'm not saying you don't work hard, nor am I saying you don't deserve all of these things and more ...just stop with the violin. HA! Funny you find a violin in there somewhere. None around here that I can see. My *magnificent* home here in south Arkansas cost me BIG.....ahem $120K. But I'm glad you find it magnificent. It's pretty awesome. I do work my ass off, and I enjoy most every minute of it. Having a nice home doesn't preclude me from having compassion and working hard to learn more and improve my skills as a physician. I do work hard, but not at fiddling. :) The point, at least for me, is that in becoming a physician you take on a responsibility that doesn't ever go away. It's an enormous responsibility. It's one that I think *most* of us understand and take to heart, though I can't truly know what drives another human being. I know what drives me. I think you may have been pissed when you wrote that, but it's REALLY funny. But there's no WAY to describe the situation in any way that's believable to a person who hasn't been there. They'll nod their heads, blah, blah, blah, or they'll pick out every minute mistake you make to point out to the world how you (and every other physician) sucks and is only in it for the money...LOLOL!!!!! Most of 'em get a good night's sleep darn near every night. Can you imagine THAT?! I can't. Once a week if I'm lucky. But you and I both suck. It's just how it is. We worked our asses off to become physicians, continue to work our asses of after becoming physicians in order to improve and get better and better at what we do. But if we were worth a damn we'd not have to do those things. We'd know all we need to know and be capable of performing every procedure without flaw. And despite the long hours, the unimaginable stress at times, and the sacrifice that goes along with the territory, we'd do it without compensation. We suck. We all do.
