This poor bugger of a Defendant walked out of court with a $1,000 costs order against the Claimant. They spent 2 years paying attorneys and they walk out of court with just $1,000 to pay them?? They now have to pay attorneys more money to find out if they can recoup any more of their costs?? That's a joke. That's pretty piss poor. They should have been awarded their attorney's fees. Ya' know....all the teenagers I see in clinic, I discuss sex with 'em. We go through every STD and immediate and long-term consequences. It blows my mind how many just don't realize that there's more to STDs than a little stinky discharge. We discuss protection, and what condoms protect against and what they do not. Sometimes people think they're being safer than they are. On another note, I've thought and thought about Gardasil. I AM recommending it to all the kids and young adults. Is that really what it is all about for abortion rights supporters, money to support a pregnant mother and someone else to raise the child? I thought the objections were much deeper. Well, from my point of view it's very different than that. I, personally, do not highly value life that has no consciousness. Conception isn't a miracle. It's a fertilization of an egg by a sperm. People always say things like, "I'm glad my mother chose not to abort me." Well....maybe. But I can also say, I'm glad my mom and dad chose to screw when they did. Otherwise there wouldn't be me. But it's unfortunate for the poor would-be soul whose parents didn't choose to mess around on a day that could've fertilized the egg that would have become him. Life, before it's a meaningful life, just isn't important at all, imho. A woman's life, her body, her choices ARE important. So it's a no-brainer as far as I can see. She has a right to choose. Now, when that child becomes viable, even though she continues to sustain it in her body, then the answer isn't so clear anymore. I have a lot of thoughts about this issue, and to me there's not a clear right or wrong. I think that when the fetus is capable of suffering it's too late to electively abort it. I don't know when that is, but probably around 20 weeks or so. BTW, today I held a living 16-week fetus in the palm of my hand. Wow. My son started Montessori when he was 18 mos old and was there until he was 7. He was a difficult kid to teach to read. Just didn't get it. When he started public school at the beginning of 2nd grade, he was already far behind in his reading, but way ahead in math. I think the Montessori school was really good for him in terms of developing his overall thought processes and in terms of building on his strengths. However, where there was a problem (reading), Montessori was bad for him. Our (failing...HA) public school worked overtime with my son to catch him up in reading during 2nd grade. This year he scored in the 99th percentile on the verbal section of the Iowa test (4th grade). Montessori has a lot of good points. I'm glad Jay was there for several years.
