I think it has to do with that old saying.. boys will be boys. I think it often has to do with when boys and girls get together they'll do what they do. I've seen it happen too many times that kids fool around, parents find out, and the boy gets in trouble. I think that most of them think that is just no big deal.... I don't think it's "no big deal...." but when the perpetrator is a child him-/herself, it should be handled differently than if the perpetrator is an adult. While there are some unique cases that may merit consideration, I would normally prefer the option of knowing if one moved into my neighborhood, particularly if I had children of my own. I don't care to know if someone moves into my neighborhood who, at age 13, messed around with a 9 y/o in some way. It's unfortunate that someone in this situation has to have this follow him around. The good thing, though, is that most people probably look at it and think, "What a joke." . Most lay people don't understand mental illness (nor do most physicians, sadly) and when they are faced with a family member who is suffering, they just don't know how to cope. But ya' know what? That's a fucking cop-out. They need to learn how to cope. When your child or parent is diagnosed with a serious mental illness, it's time to learn a little bit about it and step up to the plate. I don't even remember what post of mine this refers to....I'll have to look back. But the attitude of "poor me" "I don't know how to cope...." just doesn't meet the minimum criteria for my heart to bleed. I'm one of the physicians who understands mental illness very well. Worked as a social worker for years, with people with serious mental illness for a bunch of those.... Despite the barriers, there's no excuse for family members getting burned out or just not understanding. None. Tell that to a mother of autistic twins. Doesn't matter if she gets burned out. She has a responsibility to those people. And, insurance companies put severe limitations on mental health. It's been a few years, but mental illness is the one area that Medicaid pays much more than any private insurance co. for treatment. Is that still the case? My biggest payment source used to be Medicaid. People with serious mental illness usually qualify, especially people with schizophrenia and bipolar d/o. Gosh, I hadn't even thought about female hunters and MDMA's dick-size theory. This is getting really confusing now... Maybe female hunters are compensating for breasts that are too small. Ya' know what? I don't think it's all that important whether anybody carries a gun. I don't ever expect to carry one myself, and I don't expect to need to. Ya' never know what's gonna happen in the course of a day though. I don't consider self defense to be central to the argument for the right to carry a gun. The *need* to carry a gun is a completely different issue than the *right* to own a gun or more.
