Paul, I agree 100%. Bassinger and her attorney let this recording out to the public. Obviously she will do anything to hurt Baldwin. I do feel calling the kid a pig was a little strong but I dont disagree with his reasoning. I went thru it with two kids and their "mother /coach". Well bozo....there are also the exes like mine who is convinced, because he's a moron, that I'm trying to turn our son against him. I bought Jay his own phone so that Jesse could call him any time without being worried about interference. Jay just doesn't care to talk to him on the phone every day, so often he doesn't answer the phone....and he NEVER returns a phone call, even when I suggest that he should. Jesse's still convinced that it's my fault as his...lol..."coach." There's no telling what's going on during this Baldwin and Bassinger divorce. My ex has been wanting to take my 10 y/o tandem for a couple years. I've told Jay, "Absolutely not." I think Jesse (the ex) wants a mini me....or mini him. But now Jay talks about it all the time. He REALLY wants to go. So, against my best judgment, I've told him that when he can fit into the harness he can go. It would be a neat thing for him and his dad to do together. I'd bet he'd much more likely fit the profile of a person with a personality disorder than with a pure mood disorder. People with personality disorders--borderline comes immediately to mind, but also antisocial--may have some symptoms of/episodes of depression, but these episodes are full of threats of harm, failed suicide attempts--things that are used by the individual to control the people around them. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. No. You're not the only one who thinks that way. It's been my position for some time that keeping us safe is not always a good enough reason to limit our freedoms. How can you be sure which came first? It's just my belief after years of treating people with mental illness. I don't think there's a study out there, but people who kill others have different psychopathology than those who are depressed and suicidal. I would expect a person with Antisocial Personality D/O to kill others then himself WAAAAAY before I'd expect a person with Major Depressive D/O to do the same. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. There is a very different quality to the psychopathology of people who kill others before taking their own lives than there is to the masses of people who have suicidal ideation every day. To make a statement that people who have been "diagnosed" as suicidal shouldn't be allowed to have guns because of their tendencies to commit murder is just not a valid argument. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. the phrase "murder-suicide" didn't come out of thin air. No, it didn't. But of the numbers of people who commit suicide without killing someone else and the number of murders that don't include suicide, I doubt that there's enough of a statistical significance to be worried that people who commit suicide are at risk of murdering other people. Also, I'm not sure that people who commit murder/suicide are really suicidal to begin with all that often. I think there's probably a large proportion who wouldn't be suicidal if they had not just committed murder. I'm thinking it's a different beast. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. In points 1,2,4 the person making the choice would hurt only him/herself - if guns were suicide machines killing only the operators this would be an OK comparison. They are however desiogned to kill people other than the operator. That's true. But a person with a history of depression/suicidal thoughts is probably no more likely than the general population to use a gun to commit homicide. In my experience I can't think of a time when that's even been a concern when dealing with a suicidal person. -- A conservative is just a liberal who's been mugged. "Suicidal" is not a diagnosis. Depression is a diagnosis. Sometimes people who are depressed become suicidal, and when that happens and they see a physician or counselor, they're usually hospitalized, thus unable to buy a gun. With treatment (and sometimes just time) depressive episodes and suicidal tendencies usually pass. If a person has frequent episodes of suicidality, then I'd feel uncomfortable with him/her buying a gun....not for society's sake, though, but for the individual's. I think there are many, many people who have had one or more episodes of suicidal thinking that nobody ever knows about. Many of them have guns. I use Cingular, and I was impressed last summer when I, thinking (in error) that I had free mobile-to-mobile minutes, ran up a huge bill after I went through all my saved up roll-over minutes. Even though it was TOTALLY my fault, they reviewed my history with them, and since I had been a good customer for so long, the ATE the charges--like $300-$400. I won't switch from 'em ever now.
