I'm thinking the thief is probably some hoodlum from around here. The seller is a reputable business 45 miles away. I've been roaming the bad parts of town with my eyes peeled, but I'm thinking it's a wasted effort. I have put out a $500 reward. Yesterday we picked up a new dirt bike for my son. It was his 10th birthday present. He hadn't even ridden it 10 minutes before he left to go to his dad's for the weekend. Last night it was stolen from my carport. I'm so pissed. They could've taken the Harley. They could've taken the 4-wheeler or either of the other 2 dirt bikes in there (well, one belongs to a friend, so I'm glad they didn't take that one). But they had to get his brand-spankin' new Yamaha (yeah bozo....he did have a Suzuki, but it just was too big for him...so yesterday we traded it for the Yamaha). What's painful is looking at the lame-ass belly-button rings that people embellish themselves with. It's sad, really. When a person with really nice abs has a nice belly button ring, it's attractive. But those people...and jewelery...are few and far between. Even my buddy Lauren, the body-builder with near-perfect abs, has stupid-looking belly-button rings (god knows why), and it's a waste. Remember, over half (if you count the 2 that from all accounts appear to be non-swooper) were NON-SWOOPER related. Usually fatalities are broken down into several categories....not just one or two. If even nearly half were swooper-related, then that's unfortunate. Still I wouldn't try to stifle the swoopers despite their disproportionate number of fatalities. What percentage of those that involved a swooper also killed or severely injured another non-swooping skydiver? Those are the ones that are unacceptable. When there starts to be a trend of swoopers killing people who don't share their passion, they need regulation from outside themselves. People here and there have been talking about "what to do" for a few years, but nothing's really been done. Now SD Arizona's done something, and folks are up in arms??? Well, eventually somebody has to take a stand. There's really no way for swoopers to regulate their own...no training or education's gonna make all hard-dicks conform. Granted we should be concerned about how our actions affect others. I don't think that we shouldn't. But at some point people in these other countries you're talking about will have to step up and be responsible for themselves rather than blaming the bad ol' USA for all their woes. I'm by no means a fan of many of our foreign policies. But ya' know, world oppression isn't our problem to solve at the exclusion of our own best interests. I think it's really important to do that too. But one can be too sympathetic to others' points of view to the exclusion of ours. One thing that strikes me as funny is that while people are up-in-arms about vouchers and what they will do to public schools, it's the individual states that set the standards that must be met for schools to receive a passing grade. Some states set the bar low enough that it's really, really difficult to "fail." Arkansas, for example, has NO schools that have received a failing grade.... By example? By instilling a sense of duty? With what the country has given them, I'd say they kinda owe it something in return. Blues, Dave Hmm. Does one have to serve in Iraq to give something in return? I'm sure that if GWB's daughters were somehow forced into the military and then sent to Iraq, he'd be doing what he could to stop the war. If they CHOSE to serve because of their "sense of duty," then I hope he wouldn't try to end the war simply because their service put them in harm's way. As far as I'm aware, nobody's been forced to serve in the military during this conflict. If people were being drafted into service and his children were excluded while others' children were not, then I'd be bothered by them not serving. Your experience is the same as mine. I don't know any other family physicians who diagnose ADHD and very few who prescribe amphetamines for their patients who have been diagnosed with ADHD by a clinical psychologist or psychiatrist....most of us leave that up to psychiatrists. I'll prescribe Strattera for a person who has already been diagnosed. If Strattera's not enough, then they need more specialized care. I won't begin to make judgments about the accuracy of diagnoses of other physicians (or in this case clinical psychologists)....especially when those diagnoses are outside my areas of expertise. This is an abstract from a publication of Dr. Tashkin's from 2005. In many societies, marijuana is the second most commonly smoked substance after tobacco. While delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) is unique to marijuana and nicotine to tobacco, the smoke of marijuana, like that of tobacco, consists of a toxic mixture of gases and particulates, many of which are known to be harmful to the lung. Although far fewer marijuana than tobacco cigarettes are generally smoked on a daily basis, the pulmonary consequences of marijuana smoking may be magnified by the greater deposition of smoke particulates in the lung due to the differing manner in which marijuana is smoked. Whereas THC causes modest short-term bronchodilation, regular marijuana smoking produces a number of long-term pulmonary consequences, including chronic cough and sputum, histopathologic evidence of widespread airway inflammation and injury and immunohistochemical evidence of dysregulated growth of respiratory epithelial cells, that may be precursors to lung cancer. The THC in marijuana could contribute to some of these injurious changes through its ability to augment oxidative stress, cause mitochondrial dysfunction, and inhibit apoptosis. On the other hand, physiologic, clinical or epidemiologic evidence that marijuana smoking may lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or respiratory cancer is limited and inconsistent. Habitual use of marijuana is also associated with abnormalities in the structure and function of alveolar macrophages, including impairment in microbial phagocytosis and killing that is associated with defective production of immunostimulatory cytokines and nitric oxide, thereby potentially predisposing to pulmonary infection. In view of the growing interest in medicinal marijuana, further epidemiologic studies are needed to clarify the true risks of regular marijuana smoking on respiratory health. When prescription medications are found to have such prominent harmful side effects in a large percentage of the population, they're usually taken off the market unless their benefit clearly outweighs the risk. In terms of its pain-control properties I think there are medications that cause fewer long-term problems and control pain better. I've not seen any studies comparing the efficacy of marijuana vs. meperidine for pain control though. In terms of appetite stimulation, I think megace probably works at least as well without such a concerning side-effect profile. I don't have a problem with people smoking marijuana or of it being a prescribed medication. But I think that because it has such potent and unique psychoactive properties, it will take more than people protesting it's restrictions to make it a legally prescribed medication. It, just like other medications that are put on the market, will have to undergo controlled trials that demonstrate its efficacy....AND superiority to other medications already on the market.
