  1. A mistake is not something to be ashamed of. It is a learning opportunity...you make a real mistake when you fail to acknowledge the lesson.
  2. Bill- Where's a good place to find LED lights? I'd love to replace the lighting I've got in my apartment!
  3. go for it. I've got a 40 gig ipod. well worth every bit of cash.
  4. I do treat the flag with honor and respect. I have a flag that was flown on the mast of the USS Missouri that is folded in a flag box and displayed on my shelf. It is brought out and hung on a staff on certain days, put up in the morning, taken down before sunset, never flies in the rain, and upon lowering, is properly folded and not permitted to touch the ground. On the rare occasions when it has flown at night, it is always illuminated. My grandfather's a veteran and if he ever saw me disrespecting the flag, he'd kick my ass from here to Tipperary. He's aware of the reasons I don't say the pledge, and while he doesn't have a problem saying it himself, recognizes that I can love my country and respect my flag without needing to recite anything. We had a long talk about it when I got in trouble for not saying the pledge in school, and while he was unhappy at first, he understood after our talk that it wasn't something I was doing out of rebellion or disrespect, that it was my way of remembering what was important and acknowledging where my loyalty should lie, and he decided that as long as I stood respectfully, he didn't have a problem with it. He realizes that not wanting to pledge allegiance to a symbol does not mean that the symbol is not respected. It means that the symbol and the country the symbol stands for should not be confused. Loyalty should be given to the people of the US, not the symbol that represents them. The flag is not America. The people are.
  5. door knobs = use sleeves to open or push open w/ body (sometimes the foot works too ) railings = don't use em' telephones & mouses = cleaned regularly w/ Lysol That's more than a little OCD.
  6. there's some duplexes near the corner of adams and delaware.
  7. because the flag is a symbol of the nation. I believe in offering allegiance to your nation, but not to representational symbols, because when focus is placed on the symbol rather than what it stands for, it often leads people to forget what the symbol truly represents. I'd be much more ok with the pledge if it read "I pledge allegiance to the United States of America". A flag is a piece of cloth. It's what it stands for that's important, not the flag itself.
  8. I thought massuer is male and masseuse is female. I could be wrong! I just call them "massage therapists".
  9. you're not wasting time and energy, though. You're taking the time to think and analyze an issue that is important to you, even though you chose not to share your thoughts.
  10. you may not be able to personally put up a wind turbines, but maybe the association would consider it to lower their own electricity bills. Wind turbines could probably be disguised as windmills for decoration. They disguise cell phone towers that way. And perhaps you could talk to your city council representative about getting the city to put up the turbines on city owned land to benefit the entire community? Or maybe your county could do something? Get enough of your neighbors involved by pointing out how it will benefit them, and point out to your local government officials how it can benefit them personally, and people will listen. For example, when I talked to the apartment management about solar power, I used the fact that the residents would have greatly reduced electricity bills if solar power were used in the apartments. That's an awesome selling point here where the electricity rates are so high. Also, there are little things you can do. Your own body works great as an alternative mode of transportation. When you have to do errands nearby, walk or ride a bicycle. If possible, use public transportation to avoid putting another vehicle on the road. Personally, I moved closer to the train station and rode the train to work every day. It was faster than sitting in traffic, and I got to relax and read a newspaper. It's all about how much you want to get involved. If you'd prefer to look the other way, that's your decision, but there are alternatives to traditional power sources that will work for almost everyone. We just need to make the effort to implement them.
  11. think about going back to uni and jumping on the weekends. That way, if for some reason skydiving doesn't work out, you'll have your uni degree to fall back on. I'm not sure how it works in the UK, but here in the US, most jobs don't really care what you got your degree in, just that you got one.
  12. I've jumped both the spectre and sabre2, and personally, I liked the spectre better, and it's got great resale value. I bought one. However, I've also heard a lot of people raving about the pilot.
  13. if you don't have enough sun, you might have wind, or your area might have water. All are good sources of power. If the places that could produce power from these sources took advantage of it, supplying the areas where it is not an option would be a possibility. Personally, I've already talked to my apartment complex about putting solar panels on the roof. They're going to try it out to power the clubhouse. The expense of the panels should pay for themselves in the long run.
  14. LOL. I've got 80 jumps and still don't stand up my landings!
  15. passport if you've got it. Post 9/11 they've been hypersensitive. Drivers license and military id is probably sufficient, though.
  16. I think he means that if you don't want the certificate, sell it on ebay to someone who does want it.
  17. different philosophies, I guess. I think the instructor at Perris was more concerned about students panicking and pulling both handles at once or in the wrong order.
  18. Personally, I've got no problem offering allegiance to my country. Heck, I tried to join the military. However, I object to some of the wording in the pledge, especially in its current form, and don't feel it's an adequate representation of the loyalty that should be offered by a citizen to their country. Therefore, I exercise my right as an American citizen to refrain from saying the pledge.
  19. so you don't accidentally pull your reserve before your cutaway. If both your hands are pulling your cutaway and you're trained to reach for red first, you can't accidentally pull your handles out of order.
  20. that's why Perris teaches a two handed cutaway.
  21. I had awful coverage with cingular. Finally gave up that phone and broke the contract to go to verizon, because the cingular phone didn't do me much good if I could never complete a call without the phone disconnecting.
  22. I live about 45 minutes from Perris. If you've got transportation, you're welcome to crash here, if you don't mind 2 cats.
  23. please, make sure you tell your doc that you are an athlete and will be putting strain on that joint. hopefully, he will refer you to physical therapy.
  24. drink gatorade. Just drinking water won't help if you don't have enough sodium and potassium and some other stuff. if you're really dehydrated, take the gatorade powder and mix it with pedialyte instead of water. Tastes terrible but works wonders.
