  1. I guess it helps that I traveled a lot...
  2. I don't have to balance my checkbook. All I have to do is log on to my bank's website, and it tells me. I don't write checks myself, I tell the bank, the bank writes it for me, and mails them to whoever they're supposed to go to, for free. Saves me money on stamps, and keeps my account up to date, since all the pending checks are automatically recorded. ATM and check card transactions are available online at the end of each business day. I suck at math. Me balancing a checkbook would be a disaster.
  3. If the only school officials you know are evil and stupid, you obviously haven't met many.
  4. My A license check dive. There are other moments, but that's the one I want to share.
  5. Your grandmother sounds like a wonderful lady
  6. That's an excellent point. When you marry someone, you're, in a way, marrying their family as well. It's important to start out on the right foot with a future father-in-law, especially if your lady has a good relationship with her dad. I know my dad would be a little ticked if he wasn't asked for his blessing. He'd consider it disrespectful. Fathers like to be consulted about what's going on in their daughter's life, even if it's just a formality and everyone knows it. Oh...with regards to the first post: jumping with a rose isn't going to work unless you're doing a hop and pop. No flower is going to survive freefall. The other thing is that if it's her first jump, she's probably going to be emotionally overwhelmed as it is, and a DZ isn't a very romantic setting. Pick a setting that would mean something to her. Does she have a favorite place (beach, meadow, restaurant, theme park, etc...)? The DZ, while it means a lot to you, isn't significant for her. You're asking her to make a very important decision. Ask her someplace where she feels comfortable.
  7. from a scientific standpoint, I don't have a problem with it. However, I don't think it's the most emotionally healthy thing for that woman to do. I wish she'd gotten a new kitty from the local shelter, and saved a life instead of creating a new one when there are already so many kitties without homes. It's a really good feeling knowing you've saved a life, and for many people, it's a good way to begin the healing process when an animal friend has passed on.
  8. in 1969, the catholic church corrected the misinformation regarding Mary Magdalene. She was not a prostitute. People were confusing her with Mary of Bethany from the gospel of Luke, and a few other minor females (either un-named or coincidentally named Mary) mentioned in the bible http://www.newadvent.org/cathen/09761a.htm
  9. Planned Parenthood's goal is to get everyone educated about sex and contraceptives, so abortion is never a factor. They don't like abortion, but feel that providing a safe, sterile place for abortions is necessary, because when people are desperate, they will turn to unsafe, non-sterile methods if they feel they have no other alternative. And not all planned parenthood clinics provide abortions. In fact, most don't. The clinics that don't will, however, provide a referral to a doctor in the area to perform an abortion if it is really what the patient wants. I've been into the clinics with friends having pregnancy tests, and their options were clearly laid out to them, every option from keeping the baby to adoption to abortion was explained with a neutral attitude and no attempt whatsoever to sway the patient's decision. Planned parenthood is also one of the largest providers of pre-natal care to low income women. Pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion. Pro-choice means that you are saying "I trust you to know what is right for you and your body." For example, I am pro-choice. I support the right of everyone to make their own choices with what happens inside their bodies. However, if I had an unplanned pregnancy, I would not have an abortion myself. I've made my own choice, for my own reasons. I won't advocate taking away the rights of someone else to make that same choice, no matter what they might decide.
  10. I use earthlink hosting, and my online credit card stuff and shopping cart is through paypal.
  11. Personality. Physical attractiveness doesn't count for much if you can't have a conversation.
  12. Sharing email is more like sharing private phone conversations than like sharing snail mail. Personally, I have absolutely nothing to hide, and since my boyfriend runs the email server, he could read my email if he wanted. He says he doesn't. I believe him. I wouldn't have a problem sharing most of my inbox if asked, though I'd wonder what prompted the request. I wouldn't share anything that a friend wrote me that was personal for them, or that they asked me to keep in confidence. One problem I see with sharing email: Sometimes, a friend emails me about whatever happens to be going on in their lives. Sometimes they want advice, sometimes just someone to listen, but regardless, they directed their message to me, not a third party, no matter how close I may be to that third party. I wouldn't break a friend's confidence with something they've told me over the phone. Why would I do so with email? I guess what it comes down to is you either trust someone or you don't. If you trust them, you have no need to read their email, eavesdrop on their phone conversations, or listen to their voice mail. If you don't trust them, you shouldn't be with them in the first place. It wouldn't occur to me to ask my boyfriend if I could read his email. I trust him. That's enough.
  13. There is a huge effort to prevent abortions. Education and contraceptives, which, ironically, are things that some christians campaign against. At planned parenthood, there's usually walls of brochures and information regarding abortion alternatives and contraceptives. When my friend went in to planned parenthood for her exam (I went with her because she was nervous), she was really nervous and asked the nurse "do abortions happen here?" and the nurse said (summarized) "nope. we'll refer someone to another clinic if that's what they want, but our goal here is to work with people like you, BEFORE abortion is ever a question. There's a difference between being pro-choice and being pro-abortion. We don't promote abortion here. Our goal here is to make sure that through education and family planning, that you'll never even need to think about an abortion. If you ever come back here asking about an abortion, it means that I didn't do my job today."
  14. Gun owners shouldn't need to be protected by anti-discrimination laws, as they already have the protection of the second amendment.
  15. I've worn both underarmour and mysterioso m-tech, and I like mysterioso best. warmer and more windproof. they sell it at REI, so it'd be easy to stop by and try it on. extra small would probably fit you fine.
  16. worst gift I've ever seen given was my dad's gift to my mom about ten years ago. he bought her a toaster. dad has yet to live that one down. He now asks my advice on what to get her. She's getting an ipod this year.
  17. no idea about AOL. I've seen it caues problems with too many people's computers, so I never used it myself. my solution would be: go to www.mozilla.com and download firefox. If you want to log on to AOL, just use the aol logon, then minimize the browser and open firefox instead.
  18. Even when it's really warm during the day, it usually cools down to a tolerable level at night.
  19. Manifest has had a sign up for a while saying they're hiring. I haven't jumped in 6 weeks or so, so I don't know if it's still there or if they found someone.
  20. Some states say yes, others say no. Colorado Supreme Court: Cooper v. Aspen Skiing Co, 2002 It says that as a matter of public policy a parent cannot waive the claim of a minor child and the child cannot effectively waive his own claim. In addition, the indemnification provision is invalid because it creates a conflict of interest between parent and child in violation of Colorado public policy to protect minor children. Connecticut Supreme Court: Saccente v. LaFlamme (2003) Plaintiff Saccente and his daughter signed releases for riding lessons. When the daughter was injured, plaintiff sued. In an earlier opinion, the trial court upheld a document in which the father agreed to hold the stables harmless for any damages suffered by the stables. In this opinion, the trial court says that the father could waive his daughter’s rights and so grants entirely the defendant’s motion for summary judgment.
  21. even if you don't close the card, pay it down significantly. It's hurting your credit rating by being close to maxed out, which can affect your interest rates on school loans other than stafford loans.
  22. close the credit card that has the $1500 balance, and pay it off. Then, put the rest towards the other credit card. If you keep putting stuff on the open credit card, you're not being responsible with it, and it's hurting your credit rating by being almost maxed out. Having a loan can raise your credit rating, provided you pay on time, every month, so pay off the credit cards first. For school, you can get additional loans through companies like nellie mae, and bank of america has an education maximizer loan that's made to cover stuff that regular student loans don't, like living expenses.
  23. My cats have very different reactions to the vacuum. Anakin runs and hides. Indy runs and hides too, but then gathers his courage and decides that the vacuum is that-which-must-be-pounced-upon, and thinks he's gotta kill the vacuum, which does make household chores somewhat difficult.
  24. My cat hates spray bottles. He doesn't realize that the bottle can't work without a human behind it. He just thinks its this thing that spits water at him when he's been naughty. I had the bottle sitting on a chair once, and the cat walked by, turned around and hissed at it, and then flicked his tail in the air and walked away.
  25. maybe the car accident was a blessing in disguise, because they caught the myeloma earlier than they otherwise would have. This website might give you some more information. http://www.myeloma.org/ {{{{{{{{{{VIBES}}}}}}}}}}}
