  1. Wait a second... are you saying you drank BEER??! And liked it? What about all the time I brought over decent beer and you'd tell me, "I don't like beer.... blahblahblah" Glad to see she opened your eyes Jen Arianna Frances
  2. I went during both times last year. I don't know if it was just a freak thing - but we got soaked in February, 5 straight days of rain. I have never spent so much money in 5 days not jumping, than those 5 days. It only rained for 2 day while I was there in April (figures one of them was my canopy course at Deland ) - but the winds did start to do wierd things later in the day, which I guess is another 'Florida' thing. Folks that live in Florida - is it normally wet in February? Jen Arianna Frances
  3. ya, zennie, forgot to mention my husbands cousin has only been doing it for 2 years now - finally moved up to something that requires less time actually in the mine I guess. He also told me he almost never wears his breathing apparatus and its not required He's got a 20 month old too Jen Arianna Frances
  4. Can't be all that l33t if you had to edit your post Jen Arianna Frances
  5. I should clarify that the 16,000 home is a trailer on half an acre in Shoals, WV on the KY border. I seriously doubt with the business you are in you are truely in touch with the mining community and their families. This was not the case when my husbands aunt dropped out of HS 15 years ago. Hell, she got married at 14 - thats still a state law in WV isn't it? Don't get me wrong. I love WV - some of the most down to earth people. I spend 4 days there every Thanksgiving - we farm on his uncles farm and go to church services. It's a very relaxing time. I could spend 4 days skiing in VT and not be as relaxed and have as good a time as I do in WV/KY. Jen Arianna Frances
  6. sorry, your correct, it is monoxide. Jen Arianna Frances
  7. My husbands cousin works in the coal mine in WV - he makes obnoxious amounts of money for the area, upwards of $20, where for an area where a house costs you $16,000 (brand new), its a millionaire salary. But its also a very dirty job - the first day I saw him come home while we were visiting he had to shower outside with the hose before he could come into the house - he was tar black from head to toe. The reason people can't just throw on a ski mask or whatever and go in there is because of the ridiculously high methane and carbone monoxide levels - making friction by moving rocks can spark an instant fire, and the soot from the coal pretty much turns the area into instant night. Its a sad situation and I feel very badly for the people left behind. Typically many of the woman in that area grow up knowing that they may not graduate highschool (my mother in law is only 1 of 10 kids to graduate HS so she could go into the army), and will have their first child before 20 and not work - so they have no real way of supporting themselves outside of the home. On their side is the fact that many of the families there are some of the most tight knit families I have ever met, and due to that and their church communities these women will have many people to lean on. I just hope those poor men didn't suffer. Jen Arianna Frances
  8. I bruised it on a rough landing on the runway last February... pretty bruises It had been both sides of my tail bone, but a chiropractor got the right side, now its just my left side - but I notice it every day when I"m at my desk. Its not fun at all. Eventually I'll get back to the chiropractor to see if he can get the left side too. The road to recovery is long... Jen Arianna Frances
  9. Unfortunately this is RI - she used to live in MA... Chuck, I'll call you as soon as I'm out of work, thanks! Jen Arianna Frances
  10. I'm a year out and it still hurts on a daily basis Jen Arianna Frances
  11. One of my good friends is having some trouble with an ex-boyfriend. They had a very bad break up - he stole thousands of dollars out of a savings account and she had to call the police on him when he got violent. This was 3 years ago. Since then he has sporadically tried to open credit accounts in her name, in an effort to use them for himself. She has a fraud alert on her credit reports. Today she found out he tried to open another account. What can she do to stop this guy? She's on her way to the police station now - I suggested she call the DAs office, but I"m not sure what either of these will do for her. I'm not sure if this would qualify as an arrestable offense if she has a restraining order in place (she currently does not), but she's going to look into it. Anyone deal with this or know what she can do? Jen Arianna Frances
  12. Hey Ed, Seriously - congrats. Its alot harder than people who aren't in the program understand. My mother gave up 10 years of sobriety late in '04 because she thought she was'rehabilitated' (she hadn't been going to AA meetings in years). Today marks 7 DAYS sober for her... I hope she can reach the same milestone as you
  13. Actually, I'm married, and I don't think his gf would take to kindly to me taking him - and he already posted his car in the top of the thread there bright one. And since you're so good at judging people based on the internet - I put you just about GW in deserving my respect . Jen Arianna Frances
  14. They're all just jealous they haven't seen your car Next time we'll go for a ride Thanks again for the DVD - kept me entertained at work today Jen Arianna Frances
  15. The Crow - I never listened to one CD so much in my life, whole thing is great. Jen Arianna Frances
  16. Its about time! For anyone wanting some background on him and his case: http://www.cato.org/dailys/08-21-03.html No person shall be held to answer for a capital, or otherwise infamous crime, unless on a presentment or indictment of a Grand Jury, except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; nor shall any person be subject for the same offence to be twice put in jeopardy of life or limb; nor shall be compelled in any criminal case to be a witness against himself, nor be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use, without just compensation. 5th Amendment to U.S. Constitution Yet president Bush feels he and his Patriot Act are above this. 17. hijack great movie, my favorite! Jen Arianna Frances
  18. ha! You've never been in the car with him have you? I've never seen someone handle everything from my piece of shit KIA to his current car with such grace and percision - I wish I could drive like Darius. Jen Arianna Frances
  19. Your best bet is to call an independent insurance broker, or start with some internet searches only they can answer your questions completely - unfortuantely this is a skydiving website and not a health insurance one. If your looking for what other people are paying that are of a similar age bracket, thats a different question. I have insurance through my employer, and accident only insurance that I purchased through an independent insruance broker - none of which is terribly expensive. Jen Arianna Frances
  20. That's what it comes down to - being clear headed enough to understand. The only way to do that is to have adequate/proper training the whole way through. This is best done at dropzones that teach alot of students (some of the big ones in CA, AZ and FL are best for this), as they have lots of very experienced instructors who can handle lots of different types of students. Now I'm not saying that smaller dropzones are bad (my home DZ is small but has many instructors with more than 20 yrs. experience, I really wanted to do my training there but ended up in FL instead), its just that the bigger dropzones that have more students are typically more well equipped. Had this been the case for your neice she would have jumped appropriate gear, had additional training and been better equipped to handle her canopy problems. I hope if she decides to jump again that she does a few things: 1. get health insurance, this should be a NO BRAINER! 2. gets life insurance that covers her death in the event of a skydiving accident (many do not), as she has a child to think of now 3. Get more than adequate training at a dropzone that does many AFF courses and does not allow her 'boy friend' to teach her again, and 4. uses appropriate gear for her size (not just the minimum, as she was using, but something HUGE and forgiving that will give her the approrpriate reaction time a student needs). If you do decide to try the sport kathy, start with a tandem and realize that mistakes do happen. You can do everything right on a skydive (jump the right gear, react to problems the right way, do EVERYTHING correctly) and still have an accident like Shayna's or worse. For the number of jumps made by skydivers in the US in a given year we have few reported fatalities, but many smaller injuries such as broken bones are rarely reported. Despite what someone may tell you it is not safer to skydive than to drive. The amount of time spent doing skydives in a year are such a small percentage of the time compared to that of a typical person spends in the car. Jen Arianna Frances
  21. When you open it there is a tab at the top called 'RIP' - with the CD in the drive it iwll automatically select the songs and you just click "rip music". Super easy! Jen Arianna Frances
  22. I don't use Napster, I use Music Match - but you can use Windows Media Player to rip a CD to .mp3. It's fairly easy. Jen Arianna Frances
  23. Where's the puke icon? Most of zappa's stuff is such crap! My husband is one a HUGE zappa kick right now - and as a classically trained musician almost all of his stuff makes my skin crawl. Some of his instrumental stuf I can stand, most of it I can't. I totally understand why he was never mainstream. As far as me I'm listening to a classical compilation album - currently playing Vivalid's concerto for two mandolins. Jen Arianna Frances
  24. of course they don't do that during Hanukkah either... what are those Jews thinking How many times do people need to post a stupid degrading thread like this?? Who gives a flying f&#k if someone celebrates christmas or not - its a time to get together with family, and because most business' recognize it as a holiday, getting together with family and friends is just how it happens. Just cause someone doesn't agree with you and windcatcher and 'celebrates' this time of year doesn't mean they are degrading what you celebrate.... seriously, get over it. Jen Arianna Frances
  25. He looks alot like you actually! Its amazing to see those types of pictures. Just last year I was looking at my dads class A's picture from Vietnam, which was next to my brothers graduation photo. I never thought they looked much alike, boy was I wrong! Jen Arianna Frances
