All these meanings are used in the UK, but it's just a slightly dated form of english. Same as you don't say people are gay if they're happy anymore... Zeemax just forgot cos he has a filthy mind

D'OH!!!! no worries. I'll bring beer to the next meet. I'm supposed to be doing complex management consultancy... whatever that is.

Empty the firecrackers into the swimcap, clamp shut. Add fuse. Drop into spare drainpipe (to be found) with hoover fan at the bottom. Light fuse, switch on fan, run... Homemade mortar. The whole lot will explode cause the balloon will go nowhere... but it'll be a giggle I did say run....

Are students even trained to do that???

LMAO Has anybody ever actually met a rich skydiver?? They must exist. Surely.... ? Like, just one... ever.

Hey all... I just firewired my FF1 jump from camcorder to PC and edited it, converted it to MPEG through TMPGEnc and it comes out to about 75Megs for 1min 30. What's the best way to compress it? It's running automatically at 3/4 the size of my screen... how the hell do I tell Adobe to record it smaller???? A little help? Please?? Will

Open container in the plane, what would you do?
yoink replied to AggieDave's topic in Safety and Training
I sat in a FJC this weekend (S/L). Our students are taught that if any part of the canopy or pilot chute comes out, jump on it; smother it; tell the instructor and get ready to land with the plane. No one is getting out. The story in incidents scared me... I'd rather land with the plane than risk someone being pulled through the tail and killing us all. -
You don't need to go to the States to do a high Hop n Pop - I did one at Black Knights recently from 9 grand... Cold but worth it. Just pay a visit to a DZ out of the city I usually pitch between 3000 and 3200 - going low really doesn't do anything for me.

Beer fines are a way for the whole dz to know and enjoy the fact that you've done something special that day. New to freefall? Beer and congrats... FF1, FS1, more beer and congrats... Sure there are penal beer fines, but around here they're rarely used. Beer fines are just our way of saying "Hey! I've had a really good day and everyone else should join in with me". (As a personal note, I still owe a case for my FF1 last Sat)

I've bought a pair of Sorz goggles a while back... bit of a mistake on my part. They don't fit too well and let in loads of air during freefall. I've lost 2 contact lenses cos of the watering this has caused. Gotta get me some new goggles...

I honestly think that it depends upon WHO you are selling to... when I bought my first rig, I missed a few questionable things that ended up costing me some cash to put right as I got more expierienced and noticed them... I wouldn't sell gear I'm not 100% happy with to a newish jumper - the emphasis is on me to keep them safe in that case... A more expierienced jumper will have their own expierences to draw from and know what the consider to be good / or not gear... that's just my opinion from missing repairs that needed doing at the time I bought my rig.. I had to spend some cash - it could have been lots worse.

New Risers on order... thanks for the advice guys - I second the 'Scary' emotion. I'm not entirely sure what would happen if one riser let go, but I'm prepared to bet it wouldn't be a good thing... Oh well... at least I've got a reason to get risers that match my colours now Edit: Is installing a canopy onto a new set of risers something a rigger should do? I've got Slinks...

It may be true but it's still inflammatory crap.... I hate stuff like that. It's aimed at getting ignorant people up in arms about complex issues. (And I class myself among those ignorant people... I don't know anything about taxation policy, so I don't make statements about it...)

Have y'all ever looked at a piece of pineapple from the side?
yoink replied to kelel01's topic in The Bonfire
nope. can't see it to be honest. No imagination here -
I'll definately get it seen to before my next jump - I've checked very carefully and there's no corrosion on the 3-rings, they're all in good repair - the second photo does make it look like that that is a problem though. (Edit - I think it's just a reflection) Thanks Will

Thanks Mick. Will do...
-
Personally, I walk the bag towards the rig when I pack - I just find it easier that way; but I don't know what the guy who owned the rig before me did...
-
I've just noticed that the fabric holding the smallest of my 3 rings is fraying quite severly. Is something like this repairable, or are a new set of risers in order? And I've also no idea how this happened... second hand rig. Is this common? Ta Will Edited to add pics.

I met soneone a coupla weekends ago who burnt his old BT50 instead of reselling it - He said it was therapy; called it revenge for all the times that canopy had spanked him

I gotta try kite surfing... it looks like so much fun. Are there similarities with skydiving and windsurfing?
