OK... after reading numerous threads about skydiving involvement in the X-games, I think it's worth another go... After watching some programmes on the X-games tonight, I think skydiving should be involved. What I need to know is; Should we be involved? Have you got any experience of this sort of thing before? What can you offer the X-games? (Swooping / FF / FS etc ) What would be the best way of presenting skydiving to the masses? I think we all realise that freefall is boring to the whuffo masses... how can we alter this? (all opinions are welcome) I'm going to cross post this to Talk Back, and if I get enough interest, I'll contact the organisers of the X-games, stating our case. If anyone has already done this, please let me know by the 21/2/04. This will be when I call the organisers... I've been involved with organising UK-wide events for the BCPA events for the last year and a half. I'd really like to see skydiving become commonplace on TV, but we have to offer the distributors a serious event. Would you be interested? If any very experienced skydivers would like to help, to lend creedance to my case, please post here

For a change I've been working today too. Got an e-mail inviting me for final interview next month and I have to prepare a 10 minute presentation to 'sell myself'. I hate doing stuff like this - reminds me of doing all my UCAS forms and shit. "hire me please. I'll work dead hard need the money so that I can go jumping on my weekends off..." Details - 2003/2004 The next BCPA event: Event: BCPA Freshers II Meet Dates: Friday 13th - Sunday 15th February Venue: Peterlee Plane: 10 place turbine Finist (possibly Dornier if advance registration merits it) Peterlee will be open from 1pm on Friday 13th for anyone arriving early for the weekend. Bunkhouse bookings are available for both Fri & Sat nights. To secure firm place advance payment required £5.00/night B&B (phone 0191.5171234 card payment acceptable). Camping & Caravaning Free for the Meet. Registration: - £5 per person, up to maximum of £25 per uni (the more people you bring, the better value for money!!!) Jump prices: Experienced - £17 (cloud base 2-5k: £10, above 5k: £17) Student/Intermediate (all heights) - £25 (inc kit hire) Kit hire: Experienced - £5 (+£4 deposit) (There will be the opportunity for packing demonstrations if bad weather) Kit & docs checks to be done during Friday afternoon or first thing Saturday morning. Experienced parachutists will not require kit checks other than flight line/pre jump. Unfortunately I'd have to agree. whilst I'll happily sit there watching Airspeed, VMax etc, none of my whuffo mates understand just how difficult it is. Comments like: "It's like synchronised swimming" abound. Swooping however... that they don't mind watching, but it is kinda one dimensional unless you're a skydiver. Something like BMXing has variations in each run which can keep the watcher interested. I'm not sure watching skydiving is a long term proposition. Will
