Do you see what happens when you start a thread in Talk Back? I should have known better. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Wait a minute: 100000m horizontal from 4000m vertical? That's 25:1 . Am I reading that right? Where did this info come from? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Last weekend (or, how Kate, Dominic and I got deeper in debt)

Welcome to the flock dude, nice job. -
There's a post on uk.rec.skydiving where someone claims they read comments lifted directly from dz.com in the Daily Mail. Unfortunately the Daily Mail doesn't seem to put its editions online so I can't check and it was yesterdays (Tues 8th) paper - does anyone still have a copy? The comments were apparantly about the fatality at Hibs so let's think carefully about what we say before we say it. Edit: dz.com mentioned here Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Whoa! So he never had 14 jumps? He never went to the dz on his own? Sounds a bit odd to me, you need to get your ass to the dz. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Why did he ask you not to jump? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I found one in town over the weekend and spent 10 minutes playing with it. I know nothing about cameras but here's what I thought: I was suprised by how small and light it was, I was expecting it to be much more unwieldy. I tested it, as much as I could, in its continuous shooting mode. On maximum resolution (2560 x 1920) with no compression ("raw" I think it was called) and a 32mb compact flash card it took 3 pictures within a second before the card was full. With the same resolution and the compression set to "high" (the 2nd highest setting) it rattled off 7 in less than 2 seconds. I don't know how long it took to 'recover' before I could take pictures again. It had an attachment for a cable release but they didn't have one in store. It had a tripod mount on the underside. You could change the batteries without taking it off a top-mount. The lense was threaded for (49mm?) attachments. I was really impressed, I think if you put a good sized compact flash card in there (>256mb) it would work really well. I'm very tempted but this store wanted £970 ($1600 USD) which is a whole lot of money. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

At 2500 jumps you have a better idea than anyone else whether it's a good idea or not. I don't think anyone is going to find you on a 90 ridiculously stupid, you have the experience to know when to take it easy and when you can push it, so demo some and see how you like it. Then come back and tell us what it was like!

That sounds like Vivian Wegrath, there are some pictures on her website. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

This has happened to me twice in the last couple of years but I've never found a concvincing explanation as to how. p/c dancing around in your burble and knotting itself? Under canopy? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Just got a letter telling me that I've overpaid on tax for the last 2 years and a cheque for 16.5 jump tickets - woohoo!

So did you ask the packer how they had packed your pc? How was it different to your normal packing method? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

*bump* Anyone using one? Any info to share? 5 megapixels, 28mm wide angle lense, cable release, 3 fps..... Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Oh man that program was lame - but at least most of them came down loving it so good exposure for the sport. Lots of jokes about 'Celebrity Cutaway' at the dz on Sunday. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I've just moved from a Spectre 135 (and a 150 before that) to a Sabre2 120. The Sabre2 flys and lands beautifully, the flare is much better than the Spectre. I've only put 20 odd jumps on the Sabre2 but I would say it's much more sensitive to body position on opening and also more sensitive to packing. I've had some beautiful openings on it but I've had some pretty bad ones too - at the moment it's proving much less consitant than my Spectres. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I tried to follow down a chopped Vengeance over the weekend but it was coming down really slowly because of the airlocks. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

You also need to somehow maintain the profile of the wing, adding more and more fabric won't necessarily do you any good unless the profile allows it to create lift. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

There's another version on the PD website where you can clearly see his shadow on the snow as he flys down. Pretty awesome stuff. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

"Out of the Blue" has launched...
gus replied to proswoopingtour's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Got mine yesterday and went home early to watch it. Yes, some of the editing is a bit mtv and it's ocasionally a bit frustrating because you want a proper look at what's going on but on the whole it's a nice film. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com -
Is that standard practice? Our AFF instructors tend to limit students to 3 or 4 in a day to avoid them getting fatigued. Or maybe they're just lazy . My AFF took about 3 weeks because of the weather. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I have a friend who landed in a field in Empuria a few years ago, didn't see a big concrete trench (or something similarly hard) and hurt himself quite badly, requiring reconstructive sugery to his face. I think he broke both wrists as well. It's worth being really careful if you're landing out and it's definately worth sacrificing a few seconds of freefall to have a long enough canopy ride to make it back. Having said that it's a great place and I'm going back in August. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I was there in April and managed to land downwind in 20mph winds because they'd turned a complete 180 between us taking off and landing . So make sure you take a good look at the arrow before you land. Have fun
