The gps unit stores its data in a file on an mmc card which then comes out and goes into a usb reader attached to my computer. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Sorted, thanks. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

One of the projects I'm on at work has very kindly lent me a gps logger to 'evauluate' whilst flying birdman. It's literally a black box that logs your position etc onto an mmc card, no little screen, mapping software. So once I've figured out the format of the data on the card () I'll want to somehow plot it. I was thinking that VRML might work quite well since it's easy to create and there are a handful of free viewers out there. I've looked at GPS Drawing that Craig's brought up before but it doesn't look like their app is publically available. What are other people doing? Any good ideas? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Nice one dude, you're where I want to be! 1st wingsuit base on only your 8th base jump

I'm getting exactly the same thing. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

If you've got a tv and a remote for the PC9 handy you can access the AV port with the camera still inside the helmet and use it like that. Saves on having to take it out all the time, also saves battery by not using the little screen. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

FFXs seem to be multiplying like rabbits at Langar, I know at least half a dozen people who jump them, including myself. Yes, with a PC9. I've put about 200 jumps on it. Yes. It's not perfect but the design is great and he's still the only manufacturer making helmets like it. It's fine, quite tight compared to my old Gath but I think you want that to stop it moving around. I had to adjust it to point the camera further down. It wasn't a massive problem but I had to make a concious effort to tilt my head down a bit if I wanted something in the middle of the picture. When inside the helmet (mine is the one where you load the camera from the inside) the camera sits on a little shelf which is held in place by 2 bolts that go through the shelf and the helmet. I took out the bolts and the shelf, drilled 2 new holes in the shelf, put the shelf back in and the bolts back in through the new holes. Now it's just about perfect. I also know that I'm not the only person that's had to do this mod. Could it be a freefly vs flat thing where if you're filming from flat you want the camera to be looking up a little bit? Yes. I've got the button attached to the outside of the helmet below the lense of the camera and the led sticking out just enough to see it in the corner of my left eye. It does and lots of people use it like that without a CamEye. I found that I couldn't hear my audibles very well because there was a big enough gap (1-2cm) between them and my ears to make the wind louder than them. Also, although the lining of the helmet is thinner over the audibles than the rest of it it's still thick enough to dim the audibles slightly. So I folded back the lining and tucked it under itself so there was nothing in the way, then put some padding between the helmet and the audibles to bring them flush against my ear. No problems now. They are pretty expensive (now £100 more than when I bought mine!) but they're also pretty unique and for the reduced snagability and general quality I think they're worth it. Check this thread out from the wingsuit forum. In short, it's movie trickery and actually more than one jump spliced together. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Yeah, but wouldn't it be cool to be the first to pull it off
-
Take that silly eye thing off your voodoo and put it there. Failing that why not walk around with a big sandwich board on saying "Bird for hire."
-
You got some interesting exits going on there, ever pull off the birdman rodeo? And nice flyby under canopy, you really see how fast you're moving with the suit on. I hope it was intentional . Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I believe that F111 starts its life with the same perosity as zp, letting you create a nice small wing with the same effeciency as with zp but only for a small number of jumps ie a reserve. If I'm wrong I'm sure someone who knows what they're talking about will correct me. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I 2nd that motion, I am pretty fukn awesome and there are a few others around too. Three cheers for us! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Does your computer play the avi files that JumpTrack won't? It could just be that you don't have the correct codecs. If in doubt email L&B, I've sent them techy questions before and they've been more than happy to help out. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Why sweat it? It's base jumping that makes you a base jumper, not a number. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

What are some of your Favorite Skydiving Dreams
gus replied to Casch's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I had a great one recently where I was jumping birdman with a couple of friends except we were flying around, up and over this big spagetti junction type road intersection, just playing around like you see birds do. Then they both deployed but I kept flying the wingsuit, buzzing around and geeking them under canopy - cool! -
Sounds pretty interesting. Were you wearing video, care to post some stills? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
-
Fair point. If you're operating a video concession then you're making that "I know you and your pretty safe, so let's go" decision on behalf of the TMs so you need to know the cameraman, preferably you've jumped with him and at the very least they've come with a recommendation from someone you trust. The skydiving community is small enough that you'll probably know someone that knows the new guy. If in doubt take him out on some kind of evaluation jump? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I know we have a few here (yes Craig, I can see you holding your hand up at the back), so what's involved? What are you taught to teach and what's required in the air? I'm barely stable alot of the time so I'm not thinking about myself but I'm wondering what you guys teach that I didn't get taught by the guy that briefed me up. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
-
Surely the only question is whether you're safe? Getting a decent video isn't really part of the equation. My thoughts? Approval from the TM who needs to know who you are. If I were the TM and I didn't know you it wouldn't matter how many jumps, how many dedicated video jumps or how many demonstrated skills you had I'd be very unlikely to invite you along. Dude, you look cool and anyone that says anything else is a low-down-dirty-dawg. Hell, I might wear my black and white GTi to my next work dinner dance! And HighFly was so impressed by how cool I look he's saved a picture of me . Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Every time I try to connect to skydivingmovies.com it times out, both with IE and on the command line. It's weird becasue if I have the file location IE still lets me download it...is it just because it's so busy? Anyone else have this problem? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Well done dude, excellent news! I thought I played a pretty good student on our 2-ways and you were nowhere near me . LOL! Might take you up on that demo Skyflyer sometime, would like to see how different it is to my GTi. So is Caroline a convert? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com
