When I'm doing a 'make movie' In Studio 7 one of the codecs I can choose from is for DV so I can send it back out to my PC9. However, the same codec option doesn't pop up in Premiere 5.1, which means that if I want to use Premiere I have to export my movie as raw avi (huuuuuuuge!) then bring it in to Studio 7 so I can re-encode it as DV. I can't seem to find any free DV encoding codecs out there, are there any? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Don't forget that dz.com now gets indexed by Google so it might be worth 'disguising' email addresses. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Last night I tried encoding a 200meg type 2 dv file with Huffyuv. Technically it did work but the end file was about 4 times bigger! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Why not attach the helmet-chute release system to the helmet's cutaway mechanism? That way you're not physically attached to its rsl. If you could find some way of ensuring that the only way the helmet-chute is released is if you cutaway the helmet and vica verca then you're laughing. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I might add a secondary hdd to have as a dedicated video drive. Perhaps have your os on a smaller disk and have the 80gb soley for video - that's what I've got at least. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I'd be a bit worried about a premature of the helmet-chute but I've often thought about the same thing. It can't be that hard can it?

I have to admit that I don't know, it's been a while since I last used it. I'll try it tonight and see what it does. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Huffyuv is a popular lossless codec that might get your 1gb file onto a cd. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Thanks for the heads-up, I hadn't thought of that. I'll have a look at home tonight. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

All you have to ask yourself is this: is there any legitimate reason that someone would send you a cheque for $8750 for an item for sale at $1500? I can't think of any, my advice would be to steer well clear and, as previously suggested, contact the authorities. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I gave my Spectre to my rigger to try and fix these brake fires and got it back on Saturday. The loop in the brake line where the top of the toggle goes through is now really tight. I didn't think it was loose before he took it but compared to how it is now, it was. He also replaced the elastic hoods that house the top of the toggle and the retaining elastic that actually attaches the toggle to the riser. It looks really good and secure, I didn't have any problems over the weekend and I don't anticipate having any more. He claims to have done the same thing for several other people so if you're having brake fires consider getting that loop in the brake line tightened right up. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I met a guy once who was pretty much blind in one eye. He had alot of trouble flaring, had the odd biffed landing and eventually broke a leg (or maybe two). Do you think the ease with which you landed with one eye could be down to the number of times you've done it with two? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Swifty? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I think it probably depends on your canopy. Recently I've been having alot of brake fires (3 in 20 odd jumps) on my Spectre (loaded at around 1.3): it comes out with 2 or 3 twists - due to the uneven inflation - but also turning pretty quickly because one brake is released. But the twists kick out ok and once I've released the other brake it all calms down a bit. From inflation to flying straight and level probably takes about 7 or 8 seconds. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I've got a lot of time for that, can I join in? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH Much better! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Hey BagPuss, I'm from Norwich originally, infact I did my 1st jump (tandem) at Old Buckingham. I don't get back there much though, I live in Guildford and jump at Langar. Welcome to dz.com!

You can have mine, I just brought it back up. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

There's always Harrison Beaumont but it's quite expensive (5 or 6 pounds per £100 insured). Your profile says you jump at Langar, next time you're there find Lee (massive gangly chap) and ask him about his (Natwest?) home insurance - apparantly they've been really good with skydiving related claims. I put 4 jumps on my GTi on Friday and got my first flights over 2 minutes and my first average fallrates below 50mph (47)
