I've never had the zip come down (only jumped the new suit 5 times though ) but if I'm wearing thermal linings under my leather gloves the suit is tight enough that I have to get someone else in the plane to pull the zip right to the end and tight enough to make me think it might spontaneously unzip mid-flight. I haven't actually performed the mod, I'd be worried about punching holes in the material where it's under alot of stress. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

At the moment I have a bungee attached to the zip on the arms of my GTi that I put around my thumb to keep the zip closed in flight - the suit is quite tight around my wrists, especially when I'm wearing 2 pairs of gloves! But I don't really like doing it like that as it's a bit of a pain to remove the bungee quickly from my thumb, how about this for an easy mod? Edit: the little circles are press-studs incase it's not obvious! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Tsk, aren't you an IT 'professional'? This is the correct link. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

The bottom line is that if there was something horribly wrong with them people wouldn't keep on buying them: being relatively cheap isn't reason enough. I just bought a second hand SF (all black alien skin - gorgeous!) from one of my old instructors and I'm well please with it so far. Take a look around the dz and see who jumps them, it's not just poor newbie jumpers but experienced instructors and riggers too. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

The best jump plane? -the operators view
gus replied to MikeeB's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Why is that? We bought a Grand Caravan a few years back, I believe for $1,000,000 which seems alot. Are they really reliable/cheap to run/maintain? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com -
What about attaching the brake lines to your feet? You could hold the front risers with your hands and the brakes with your feet. There's a fine line between madness and genius you know. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Has anyone ever experimented with prone, rather than supine, harnesses? (ie lying down rather than seated) Imagine swooping the pond like that! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

2K's - FFX Helmet and Lens Questions
gus replied to MichelleRichard's topic in Photography and Video
My Kenko 0.5 on a PC9 sticks out from my FFX a fair bit. There are some links kicking around this forum for some really nice low profile lenses that would stick out much less. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com -
Given that your post rates is TEN times mine I think it'll be a while before I'm worthy. If I go to sleep tonight thinking really hard about topless skychicks on skislopes can I have the same dream? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

What you need is a subtle sign to let you know that you spend too much time on dz.com..... Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I found a whole load of mal pics on www.pierltd.com but I don't remember where, it's worth having a look around. Edit: Found them here Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

That's what would worry me about following someone down: I've landed out several times, one time we (there was 5 or 6 of us) were a good 45 min walk back to the dz and it took ages for the truck to come. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

If you were under canopy and saw what looked like a pretty bad off landing below you would you (a) take an off landing too (assuming it was safe) to help out the injured jumper (b) land back at the dz to get help ??? You could save someone's life by getting to them quickly but if you've landed a mile from the dz and no-one knows you need help you could have wasted alot of time by landing off. Thoughts, experiences? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I would have thought that informing the pilot would be a priority, why is he/she unaware? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I've met people that have done it in the minimum (whatever that is, 16?), some that have taken 50+ and some that have given up and converted to AFF. I've met very few people who had to retake more than 1 or 2 AFF levels. I've never done a s/l jump but I did do my AFF at Langar, nearly 3 years ago. One thing to bear in mind is that AFF rejumps at Langar cost your slots only, ie at other places you might get charged £150 to retake level 1/2/3, at Langar you'd pay 3 jump tickets = about £50. I was a student at Nottingham when I did AFF so it's not impossible. I took out student loans and worked part time to fund it but it's worth every penny. If you can get the cash together I'd recommend AFF for its intensity and freefall from jump #1

The benefit of the ffx (with my PC9 at least) is that since the a/v port is located on the right hand side of the camera you can leave it in the helmet and operate it with the remote - although you will have to take it out to get to the firewire port. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

When a collapsable pilot chute is collapsed the middle of the pc where the hackey is (the apex?) is drawn in to the end of the bridle, preventing the pc from inflating. When you 'cock' a collapsable pc you're pulling the apex back away from the end of the bridle so it will inflate. See outrageously helpful diagram below: = is the bridle x is the hackey - is the kill line Collapsed: // ===||x \\ Cocked: _ / \ ===|-|x \_/ Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I have a feeling that at the moment it's unregulated in both the UK and the US. I have a friend with one and he loves it, I'd love to take one for a spin or - even better - get my friend to take me up tandem style to 3k so I can hop off at the top! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

I see on the Skyrats website that they've started a canopy school. It's a good idea I think, has anyone here attended? What was it like? Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

Our (Langar's) resident camera guru Tony Danbury reckons he'd rather not use a camera condom because if any moisture does get in it's going to have a hard time getting out again and that might be more damaging than not having the condom on! Gus OutpatientsOnline.com

question regarding parasail canopies
gus replied to blewaway5's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
The company is Nervures, I don't think it's strictly a paragliding canopy though (more of a hybrid), although they claim a glide ratio of 7:1 which is pretty imressive. Gus OutpatientsOnline.com -
When you do a normal track you angle your body into a more headdown attitude by moving drag towards your feet - your tailwing looks like it would just put even more drag/lift towards you feet, tipping you even further headdown. Imagine being in full flight with a wingsuit on then then arm wings suddenly dissapear - you'd 'fall' forwards into a very steep track. I'll try it, it sounds cool!

It's like taking your driving test - faliing at least once makes you a better driver (trust me!) and failing an AFF level definately makes you a better skydiver (again, trust me).
