  1. Dont get me wrong, i'm not in favor of regulation, but i think a system of some kind, just to give people a good orientation/reference is a very good thing. I share your feelings and thoughts on the realism of this system, but that doesn't stop me from thinking that it would be a good thing... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 2. Then imho by all means he's not a good freeflyer, sorry. IMHO you can't rock in hd if you can't rock in hu... How will one ever know if he'll be able to stop at 180°? What happens if not? This is why a proficiency rating would help. But, as often stated in this thread, a solid sit/stand, then onheading 360° rotations, then headdown, 360° rotations in hd (ad) would give a good hold on what to expect. As for backflying, well a transition into backflying should be possible to everyone past AFF (This does not say anything about the quality of the backflight itself, of course). Faqtor

I have a Faqtor 120. When i first saw one of these it was a steep hookturn and i thought the guy would never make it... I was wrong, short toggle input and he swooped like hell. Jumped it lateron myself and was amazed of that canopy. You can do very flat turns should you need to, but if you get into the front risers, it will make your ProTrack scream. It is an incredibly good canopy for a wide range of experience, i can only recommend it. The Service from Paratec was outstanding, had my custom made canopy in a little more than four weeks after the order. I've also jumped the XXXXX2 made by a bigger company, as i thought it was the same class - no way dude, it just hasn't the Faqtor!
  4. For bigway hd or vrw the ad may be good, but if you think a headup dive is (or can't be) fast and dangerous, think again. I'm not against the ad, all i say it doen't really tell you the jumpers level below "top flyer". That's why it's mostly useless to the majority of beginners/intermediates out there whom a system of proficiency (lik the a-d US licences) would help... 5. Sorry, but imho the ad is not a real licence. We're talking about a licencing system to show different levels of freefly proficiency. This starts of with maybe a good stable sit. a person who can jump in a stable, controlled sit can be safe to go with some others, but he's no good in a hd dive. where's an ad good here??? Not at all. One can do a safe ff jump w/o going hd and having an ad license. But you can't tell the proficiency of the new kid on the dz from them telling you "oh, i can sit", and that is the point. The level required for the ad is so high that you know that an ad license holder can do pretty much everything in the air, but what about that 200-sitflies working-really-good-headup people? The ad doesn't cover them... Apart from that, it is not very cooperative to have to travel to someones accidental place of beeing to be able to get a license of some sort, imho. 6. Hey, didn't know you were posting here, too! Nice surprise! Naa, this baby needs power feed, so there's a nice two Paratec canopies going in there.

  11. Just got my new one this weekend, W8-Ext with a Paratec Faqtor 120. I packed the main coming straight from the other d-bag, so there wasn't a lot of air in it and i still had to really work it... But that was the very f.. ahem, pre-second packjob on that D-bag.. Most of the stuff was still quite stiff and will take a few jumps to break in for sure. Apart from that, Great piece of equipment! And btw, nice pic bkdice! 12. no chest rings at all, but _very_ comfortable. Just got my new one this weekend. Can't really see the advantage of chest rings anyway, the rigs i tried with them had them pressing and uncomfy. 13. Good answer by arlo. I second all the above said and would like to throw in my two cents; As you are quite new and low in jump numbers, but primaryly because you state that your landings under that 260 aren't all that well. I would recommend you to NOT downsize until you can. Smaller canopy=higher wingloading=more speed Thus, I'd recommend to staying on rental gear for a while, until you have gathered some canopy flight expertise (does your DZ maybe have smaller than 260 for rent? so you could start jumping on something smaller without buying equipment) and then go in the market again. It may seem more expensive to rent gear for a long while, but it usually pays off because you can stick to the gear you BUY longer after that. Usually DZ make a deal with someone who wants to jump their rental gear for a given number of jumps, say like 20-30 and pays in advance. I know, that might be like 400-600 bucks, but they are not spent worst... This is just MHO, but i got good results proceeding that way. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 14. If you are looking for a canopy, i can also recommend their new canopy, the "Faqtor". Its a semielliptical with a good recovery arch and very docile when not flown agressively. If flown aggressively, it will give you steep dives and long swoooooooooops. I chose it over a sabre2 after having jumped both. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 15. Now if i'm not completely mistaken, you could also put in different lengths on the outer lines, giving a longer leverage on toggle input and thus a little less agility in turns (=less agressive)? Or am i wrong on this one? Experts please! The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...

  17. That question (Alti or not) came up at my home DZ a few years back. A _very_ experienced jumper said, that people nowadays are all too much relying on any technology (including mechanical-barometrical altimeters) than their common sense and their gut feeling. He said he would without a doubt jump from a plane without an alti and deploy within a range of +/- 100 m of his normal deployment altitude. (We didn't ask him to prove that...). I do agree that this is possible though and have jumped myself without a baro on a three way(I forgot mine, but my buddies had, was a rush due to resheduled refuel), no problem. Although i think it takes the experience of a number of jumps to get in tune at a certain DZ, and it should for sure not become a habit. BUT i don't see a reason why one should NEVER jump without an altimeter. So i agree with AggieDave, On students it could be a measure like the low-alti-jump. Haven't heard of a DZ doing that, tho. (and wonder if any student looks at his alti on a low-alti jump anyway...) The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 18. The Teardrop SF is an excellent container. Some people prefer it, among other things, because of the Poptop of the reserve lying outside. Never heard anything bad about it.
  19. For a 100 jump person, a six way IS big. If the others had started separation (and paid attention to what was going on with you guys, how could he pull through the rest of the group? 21. The ProTrack will sound the flatline alarm below the set altitude if your vertical speed exceeds 28 m/s. This is roughly 20% less speed than what your cypres fires at (at 35 m/s or more). 23. As far as i know, there is one manufacturer in belgium, i found his site somewheer in a thread but can't find it now. He's exclusively been manufacturing for SP, and afaik SP only offers them to their customers/containers. Would really be interested in one too, so i guess i'll mail Sunrise Rigging (Who made my Wings) for some info. My guess is, though, that once the bags are in more widespread use (at least a year as SP states they're still being "tested"), other manufacturers will hop on the train. Except SP patents it and they have to work out and test their own designs, that is.. Hopefully someone makes them for other rigs as well, they seem to be nifty. 24. Looks like the breakoff didn't work at all. If you pushed off his back, looked up and down to see him deploy (open by 2500, obviously the right time to deploy unless briefed differently), it seems to me that the group failed to separate at the proper altitude. IMHO after getting off him, altitude awareness given, it should have been time to separate already, meaning you definitely tracking away? Especially if it is a low time jumper, briefing should pay special attention to breakoff and separation proceedings so that everybody can get away clear. If i do a first jump with anyone i haven't jumped with before, i pay very special attention to breakoff and separation procedures, as i have been in close calls on two jumps myself (of which i was the reason in the first one). Edited to add: Of course, looking before you pull is always good!
