PHYSICS ? - why do tandems fall faster?
Chrisky replied to corpkid's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Well. a tandem in a sitfly (funny thought) would actually create about twice the drag surface compared to a solo sit (that is considering that the student is not sitting on the instructors lap, but in front of it between his legs). This is because the instructor would not be in the wind shadow of the student. Thus it should be falling at about the same rate (reach the same terminal velocity) as a solo sit. If they would be able to maintain that position until breakoff, the drogue would have to be deployed once they turn to their belly, effectively reducing their drag surface as the instructor "hides" his surface behind the student... Hi there! For all the european readers here, check out the website Freefly.de for info on the upcoming fifth german freefly festival. It will take place in Flensburg, near the City of Kiel, so if all you scandinavians living close want to join, feel free (everybody else as well of course!)! If you are located more towards the west, check out the 2nd Belgian Freefly Festival "Headdown over Spa" from the 20th to the 23rd of May! Blue skies! Where to put my rig on flight to Florida?
Chrisky replied to Chrisky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I doubt they will throw in one on returning your checked one by default, but they definitely will (send one) if you ask them. It should have come along with the manual. If you have the manual, check the back, this is where the card usually sticks. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Where to put my rig on flight to Florida?
Chrisky replied to Chrisky's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Hi there, i'll be flying to Lake Wales for the last week of February. I'll beflying with United Airlines (most probably, didn't confirm the flight yet). It's an international flight from Vancouver, Canada. Now i'm wondering whether to take my rig aboard or not. Any experiences? I could also put it into a hard-shell samsonite... But of course i'd prefer to have my baby safe with me (all dressed up at best!). Any info appreciated. Rock on! The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. Couldn't be too hard to attach the contacts of a cameye to those of the beeper of an audible. Question is whether they're about the same current. I f i had money to waste (an audible is doing it for me), i'd try it. But i have to pay my tickets... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Ever lost your cut-away equipment?
Chrisky replied to thermosnight's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
I used to jump in a very foresty area as well (Spa/Belgium), when a jumper lost his pretty new canopy as it was too high to reach and not easily accessible. He got it back somehow after two weeks of summer sun and a rainy weekend. Was still jumpable, but the rigger told me the before-20-jump-like canopy was now more about a 800-jump-like... Never chopped, so can't really tell. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ... -

Just pull on your hackey with the grommet fixed somewhere to cock it. Then pull the bridle and you'll see... The bridle will slide back, collapsing the PC, once there is a pull force on the grommet (open canopy). A K-Line PC will minimize drag from the PC connected to the center cell top skin. Or just read the manual of any given container, instructoins for K-line-PCs should be in there. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Got myself a Wings after being turned down by the long wait for Javelins. Got all the nice features for a price cheaper than Mirage, and it is the most comfortable rig i've ever been in. Well, you asked for it.... What editing? The videos are pretty much one after the other, there is not a single cut in the whole thing and the music (to put it harsh) was edited together with a 80ies tape recorder and scissors. If any form of editing hardware was involved (like a mixer, PC or whatever), it could have been way better. If it was generated using two camcorders it's alright (but who would do such a thing?). So much for the criticism. How was all that put together? A recommendation if hardware was involved: break up the jumps, cut them into each other, do not line up 3 jumps after each other. 7:30 for 4 or 5 50 sec jumps is way too much and video with nothing happening is boooooooring. helpand answers needed immediately, with 'almost new' gear...
Chrisky replied to Kuper's topic in Gear and Rigging
If you don't feel comfortable with the thing having been sitting in the closet for 2 month, DUDE, REPACK IT!!!!! What the fuzz??? But you don't have to, i have jumped mine after it sat in the closet for 4 1/2 month, deployed just as well. (Although it is recommenden to repack it every three month as well if not in use, just so your stuff won't "set in" too much). The reserve is still valid for at least a month in most countries, so just test the rig. *** 3.i always jumped on the rigs of the DZ. the smaller i used there (the smaller they got for rent) is (wings i suppose) 230. no matter what - if that new rig sits good on me - i'll probably enjoy it very much, becase i don't know anyting else... now i'm getting to the point: maybe the weather will be bad till the guy live abroad and i won't have the chance to jump with it. IS IT REALLY SO IMPORTANT TO ME TO TRY IT IN THE AIR, after the riger gave me the 'ok' when he saw it on me? i mean - i know nobody else than me can feel it, but with my newbie (47jumps) situation i can't feel that it's not good... Are you talking about the main canopy or the container size here? If it's container size, have the rigger check out the sizing (the connection of the MLW and the leg/hip straps should be about the height of your pelvis bone on the front of your leg, where you can feel it), but you should feel it. If it's about the canopy size, if it's any smaller than a the student gear, HAVE YOUR INSTRUCTORS take a look at it and ask if it's ok for you to jump it. something that usually works is to copy it from your internet explorers temp file directory. Just go to options ->temporary files->settings->show files, then look for a media clip and copy it somewhere else. That's all. Or, if it's a quicktime movie (as the promo is),, just right-click on it after its fully loaded and select save as quicktime movie. if you can't d/l it, just ask PD for a VHS copy... another post about adhesive tapes touching your container
Chrisky replied to The111's topic in Gear and Rigging
Why don't they have the rigger sign off your gear being checked and safe on your waiver? That way they can look up your repack dates as well. A very good DZ i know only lets you jump once you 1. signed their waiver of liability 2. signed that you received a proper DZ briefing concerning rules, landing areas, pattern etc., naming the instructing DZ member. 3. got your gear checked and signed off by the rigger. That's safe and i have no shit sticking to my rig that wasn't intended to be there by the manufacturer whatsoever. I wouldn't really mind, but it's a loop, and loops like to snag something, even if its just paper... And this particular stuff they use at oncerts is designed not to come off unless cut, so i wouldn't want it there either. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open.
