The point is, looking over the links again, in all those action pictures, i see no kids (define kids as under 10) wielding weapons. I just see dead ones in the fourth link... Usually great pride is taken in fighting kids by muslim extren´mists, if you look at how palestinians (HAMAS) are showing them off. I can't see any of this in the first three links provided. Well, if you think you can't determine the difference between the guy shooting at you and an unarmed civilian (excluding the case they hide behind the same cover, of course), then you are pretty blind.. Well, in combat (which is relevant here) they do have a weapon or not. Assault rifles are usually pretty good visible, especially the AK with its high profile. Then look again. Of course there is no room for hesitation when the bullets fly. but it's not so hard to see if someone is aiming a gun or just running for cover. And as the dominating force, you do have the initiative and can choose the battlefield. If you do not have the initiative, you should try to avoid or end the fight asap for your own good. Many of the countries in the coaltion are in for the money to be earned in rebuilding the iraq oil infrastructure. They aren't necessarily known for their great modern military... For the 500 polish soldiers in iraq ie, polish companies have received building contracts worth an estimated 500 Mio. USD... Not a bad deal fo a country... The problem with the barrel roll is that you have to go flat first, corking up. Which is why it is important to check without decelerating (going belly to earth) first. So from a head-up position you simply look up and around, from headdown the transition to a flat track with barrel roll is usually less abrupt (can't really give feedback because i'm just learning headdown an do max. 2ways). So from headup there is no blind spot, and a barrel roll in the track following the abandoned Headdown position should do the trick. On a "normal" RW dive, there shouldn't be anyone overhead (ideally...), and there is no vertical slowdown (or at least not as dramatic as in freeflying) during the separation. So a look over the shoulders could be enough, still a barrel roll would be better, as it eliminates the blind spot. No need for that if all participants were level and tracked away into different directions though. It is important to always make a safe separation part of each dives' briefing.

Well, what do your instructors say? Whatever people tell you here, we don't know you and all have different frames of reference. I think, though, that it's a wise choice for a beginners rig.
