  1. Help, I'm green! Green with envy, that is! Not really... Congrats man!
  2. Did a leglocked 4way sit exit once. Flipped over once after exit, but we managed to stabilize it. Released when we started to go too slow for the other 3 guys... Two floaters out, two "divers". All wrap their right legs together and then lock it using the left leg (preferably the floaters). Front diver holds floater by the left riser cover, divers hold hands, rear diver holds rear floater by right riser cover. Floaters hold hands too. Once out, lock those legs as hard as possible and hold on to those arms, then physics will put it upright after (the very likely) flip over. Loads of fun.
  3. Just found their ad on the back of my first logbook...
  4. I'll try to be there, just gotta get on the phone for an early ride. Getting on the bus at 6:45 is not such a bright outlook... And i have to be back downtown at about 1pm for a job fair. Somehow get a work permit... The plan is to for everyone to improve their canopy skills, not only focused on swooping. Early in the day for predictable winds and to get the weekend started. 8. Did they try one of these hardened-point hammers they use to have in buses? (at least they do in germany) They are intended to shatter the glass by channelling the entire srike force into a single tiny spot, the result is if you only slightly knock the hammer against a window it will shatter. I know that we are talking worlds apart in windows here, so just curious? These Hirise-windows need to be some bad stuff, you wouldn't want to have an open window in 150m height due to some dump bird... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 9. YIKES! Hope he got a rebate and could cut it out quickly! Well, usually if people would not pay attention where their canopies landed (in the woods near Spa/B), the pilot would do a low pass of the area on approach for one of the next loads, an usually saw it. Was Part of the reason i have stripes of really bright colors on my canopy and a custom color (neon yellow) Freebag...
  10. So considering it's Vancouver, BC, check out pacific skydivers at Pitt Meadows airport. Website is http://www.pacificskydivers.com, mail Debbie at the manifest via dz@pacific..... or call the number on the website for what gear they have for rent. View of the City is usually great, see the mountains on the north shore of the burrard inlet and on a clear day even Vancouver Island and Mount Baker. Saturdays they usually have the King Air flying, if there aren't enough people they send up the Cessna(s). Very nice people there (like me...). 11. I looked into it last year considering the RECCO system. I used to jump at a DZ that was pretty much in the middle of a big forest and cutaway canopies would usually take some time to befound, sometimes a week. The Recco Reflector is pretty small and coud be sewn to the risers (one each side). The trouble is that 1st of all you'd need to have the reflectors and second you'd need the detector, a big unit that can be used from a helo for searching, and that thing doesn't have a price tag but can only be rented from RECCO IIRC. The smaller, shortrange detectors for skiing patrols wouldn't be good enough, and they are still quite expensive. I figured for the system to work, you would kinda have to get it to a decent number of DZs, but i don't think there are enough DZs close to tricky terrain that doe have the budget to fund all that equipment. And i never got an email reply from Recco on my inquiries... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 12. I can't see how a TSO check would affect the problem, or any other technical check for that matter. I think it would be a good idea for the pros to show off their skills on bigger mains to show people how much the pilot does compared to the wing. Instead of just talking about it. I personally haven't seen anyone swoop anything bigger than a 150 yet. (But i do believe that a good canopy pilot can make almost anything fly really sweet). 14. Good point, though i must say the Rawa has definitely less snag hazard than the "Helmet plus camera box exchangeable"-Combo, unless you cover the whole thing in tape... And in my Rawas case, it was simply the best fit... The price seems to go up constantly, though... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 15. Did you get any help adjusting the aim? Looks like it's pointing slightly upward. You can't tell it from the video at all though, because you don't really have any steady reference point except for the plane for a few seconds which isn't any good of a reference. Have someone assist you aiming by folding out the monitor, zoom in all the way an tell the helper what you are aiming at. He should then be adjusting the mount or tell you, where the camera is aiming, so you can adjust the ringsight. If you plan on filming mostly from a belly to earth orientation, lay on your belly because usually you will slightly tilt your neck and look up slightly for a reference that is on level. 16. Hmm, well, i bet i could have got some decent results if i had gotten it to run on my Laptop... But i guess it didn't like the "extended students license", ahem... Premiere Pro runs fine and RT though. But having a PAL camera here in Canada doesn't help, so i rarely use all that stuff over here... Did flight sims improve that much since 2/3 years ago unless you start flying so low that any FAA member would shoot you on sight? I thought they already hit a technical "as real as possible" margin back then (i remember fighting that force feedback joystick spiralling down and pulling my Me 109 out of that spin on lawnmower level... Stall spirals are a bitch!)? What is a good sim atm? Back sneaking in "Thief"... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... 17. Voted not their concern, but with the restriction that they would talk enough to the buyer if they are not ready. If the seller seriously tells the buyer that the canopy he wants to buy is still too dangerous for him and he should really consider something more docile, but the buyer insist to buy, you can't blame the seller. If the seller didn't give a sh*t, selling the pocketrocket to whoever just came by looking for a canopy, he would be responsible IMO. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. 19. Been there done that. My main hooked up to a rental rig w/ velcro riser covers while waiting for the new container, solo jump (not doing HD, just sitting, but on this jump with a cartwheel-should have known better). Left toggle comes out, i notice and grab it (read:nail it to my shoulder, not holding it in hand). Stayed in box until opening altitude, let go to pull and expect a sharp right turn. Main opens normanlly, dives right and i grab the left and release the right toggle. Uneventful canopy ride, reserve and freebag still in place. 20. Well, i'll go ahead and put myself straight in the line of fire here... I scared myself twice on my current canopy so far. Just started to like swooping and did a rather quick toggle turn to final, a little more than 90° left. I figured i would be landing near the Taxiway (on that DZ at the time we would land between Taxiway and Runway) into the landing area. The turn was a bit steeper than i expected and i pulled both toggles, quite quickly but not so fast as to induce a stall. I swooped the Taxiway, but my legs which i had pulled up got a nice solid bump and my but only a slight one before the lift pulled me back up. I walked the rest of the speed off on the grass (wasn't much left)... A buddy of mine gave me a serious talking to, and i answered (as most of you expected), that i was alright and in control. Later that day i walked up to him and told him he had been right and excused myself, but it took me a while to digest the whole thing and recognize that. A week later i got to return the favor on a different issue... The second time i got scared was when i was still actively testing out the canopy and started having fun with its responsiveness (Not that i don't do that anymore). That was when i learned that a canopy with short, strong differing toggle input can twist up if you do it wrong. There i am up in the sky, coming out of a spiral just above my hard deck and pull a toggle really quickly.... Woooops! What the!?!? Two linetwists? I was lucky enough i had let the toggle back up again after things started feeling weird, so the canopy was going quite straight with the twists and not spiraling. So i got to kick them out and do a quite conservative approach. Apart from these two times, i got a little nervous on different occasions, but they all made me learn more about my canopy. Like it does great flat turns at 150 ft avoiding intersecting flight pathes... Oh, maybe i misposted because i don't plan of even thinking of downsizing... This thing is so much fun and challenge enough to fully master (nowhere near doing "stunts" with it yet, but don't feel the need either) that i will be flying it for a really long time. 21. This is an invaluable post. Usually you don't get to hear this kind of stories from the most experienced people. All you hear is "it took me so and so long to master this or that size/type..." While it is certainly true, it gives a poor outook for younger jumpers (Geee, i'll have to wait that long?), whereas this kind of story rather makes one think, he has that many jumps and still situations like that happen to him! 23. I just helped out a fellow user who didn't get a email reply from (place DZ here) for two weeks. I knew that a couple of people jumping there are users here, so i tried to find some. It was not a search option, and it's hard to find users with that home DZ by searching posts. I finally stumbled over the S&TA of that DZ, which happened to be the perfect link-up for the other guy. So i thought it would be a really neat option to search users by home DZ, ie. if i'm thinking to go to DZ "Wherever", i could mail one (or some) of the users, where to go and what the local rules etc are, maybe i even know some jumpers from the forums. Or would that end us up having to choose our home DZ setting in the profile from a database (what if my home DZ isn't "on the map" yet)? Just an idea...
