Do you worry about how you'd react to a malfunction?
Chrisky replied to Evelyn's topic in Safety and Training
I do that on all my EP drills, even though i have an unobstructed view. A hard opening and/or a spinning mal can distort the harness, so that your handles are displaced and you can't see them (because your head movement might be restricted or whatever). Weight and Pack Volume, Tempo and PD Reserve

Of course, excerpt from the manual: Speed 2000 Technical Data The Speed 2000 Family of Reserve Parachutes have been certified under JAA JTSO C23d and under FAA TSO C23d, issued by the Luftfahrt Bundesamt LBA as a full member of the Joint Aviation Authorities of the European Union and the Federal Aviation Authorities in the USA. I think the general idea involved the Porter (best "door ratio") based there and not necessarily a linked exit (at least not all 10 flyers linked, just a base of maybe four...). Just get everybody out as much on level as possible, then link up a nice line. probably everyone would do inside video of that one, assuming he's got a camera...

Well, you know, when you learn how to pack, packjobs tend to be a bit uneven and bulgy... Makes a well-fitting loop seem a bit tight... I just got reminded of that when i got my new rig with my new canopy... These first few packjobs made me question my packing abilities... Now it's all back to routine again. Maybe that guy just wants to get rid of the whole package and is not implying the potential buyer to hook the 104 up... Sell a package, let the buyer get rid of the 104... Less hassle for the seller. Ie if you are interested in the rig, and the seller says only the complete package, wouldn't you get it and then sell the 104 if the rig w/170 is a good deal considering the 104s' resale value? Seems more logical to me than to think that guy is irresponsible. Also, it seems to me nobody looking for a 170 is really interested in hooking up a 104... It doesn't add up.. If it was a 135/150 and a 108, it would be different in my eyes i guess. Don't hesitate, go ahead. The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Had a jav myself, proper PJs, flap tended to come open. Last week jumping with a buddy we checked the tab of his jav on the ground, seemed ok, came open in FF several times. It's at the riggers' now to get a little elastic sewn to it so the tuck won't come undone that easy. I think once the material between the tab and the cover flap becomes softened by long use, it's more likely to "untuck". I've seen it quite often with javelins so far (including video of me...), and i can't see why they don't move on to a self-tucking flap. I have an up-tucking Wings now which stays shut, period. Personally i would not get another under-tucking design again, because the idea of the Main flap tucking back into itself seems more foolproof in any orientation with any sloppy PJ to me. From all i've read about the infinity (exclusively positive), there's no reason not to get one, either. My 2 cents.

Doesn't have to be even, odd can do too, whichever gives the better result to your liking. JFYI

What if you break your left arm? I think the handles are where they are so you can operate the handles using one hand if necessary... Left or right doesn't matter. Sure sounds amusing to me... Water, lots and lots of water for the blade, water and gentle rubbing for the skin (or whatever she prefers...). The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...

Muahahaha! Had that happen to me once, too. Wasn't all that bad, but i thought: Hey weren't these colours a little different last time? Whassup with dat? Tinted goggles rock! Nope, not everybody. I was taught to put my finger on and to pull the chord out gently, as it used to be damn hard to get that chord under the loop on that student canopy. Now i use a power tool with a sleek chord and put it under the pin before extraction. But if you look around, you will find some people ripping out the pullup chords like they intentionally want to rip the loop. (It actually is a handy method to remove those hard-knotted broken rubber bands from the dbag). The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... sorry to jump in, but i was instructed to peel going from top to bottom, which is in the direction you pull anyway. Kind of like turning the handle so the velcro gets pulled off at an angle, not sliding over the opposed part generating even more friction... Fired my cutaway/reserve like that for the last repack (was really curious about the feel) and it was a firm, yet easy pull. (Of course the cutaway was easy as the risers were not loaded, but there was only little resistance from the [new] handle itself.) The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. How about lightning striking somewhere in the vincinity screwing up the memory chips to show the bogus jumps? Just a wild guess... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... Not every Swooper hooks & not every Hooker swoops ...

Chrisky replied to Evelyn's topic in Safety and Training
Well, i haven't had a malfunction yet, so i'm not the right person to give you an answer... I'll still post what i think though... I'm still asking myself that same question, but i have seen some emergency procedures of buddies' reserve rides on their own video (ego-perspective). That was quite reassuring to see how quickly that reserve was out and the situation resolved. Thanks to that and my routine EP drills before each and every jump, i don't worry much anymore. Wasn't someone talking about trying a linked 10way sit (straight line) around Pitt recently? There would be just enough flyers around and cramming into the Abbotford Porter would allow for a well timed exit. Don't know if anyone's still planning this, though... Would definitely be cool. Scared myself, semi-low pull on jump 25
Chrisky replied to Lostinspace's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Same here. My Alti started getting "sticky" sometime last year. Didn't worry too much because i use two audibles as backups and still have the int clock ticking. Got it fixed anyway. One more thought... Do you dive a lot when tracking (track at a higher angle)? I once almost ended up headdown on an early jump because i overdid the diving portion of the track. Just a thought, it didn't sound like it from your description though... The mind is like a parachute - it only works once it's open. From the edge you just see more. ... A good exercise that helped me a lot was to not exit in HD, but in a sit (as it's a comfortable and well known position). Turn 90deg to jumprun and transition to hd. Feels weird, unstable, uncontrolled? Back to sit, relax, try again. Worked wonders for me instead of having a flood of info splashing over me at a hd flower exit (with a "coaching" buddy).
